It's finally, mercifully over

Throw the damn towel. There is no reason to wait any longer.

With Warde this could drag on.
I am surprised that nobody else has mentioned this but Hunter tried to tell the Michigan admin and fan base that this was going to happen back in 2022 due to lack of NIL for basketball.
That is not to defend Juwan because this has pretty much gone down the route of worst case scenario. However, if we don't get admissions and NIL fixed, our ceiling will be Northwestern (middle of the pack in a bad B1G every couple of years) and that assumes we hire a coach that can function under those circumstances.
Northwestern is 3rd in the B1G this year. If only we could reach the "ceiling" and be as good as NW. By recruiting rankings, I would bet Michigan had a more "talented" roster than NW this year, they just waaaaay underperformed and there's no one else to blame it on but JH.
The buck stops with Juwan.

Football and men’s basketball have the same number of wins in 2024.
March 14th, 2024 at 12:33 AM ^
Eight and 24. How'd we ever win eight?
You could make the case that they won 8 because Howard wasn’t coaching all the games.
March 14th, 2024 at 11:04 AM ^
lollygaggers!
March 14th, 2024 at 11:08 AM ^
They weren't just lollygaggers. They were worse than that. I don't know what's worse in college basketball lollygagging, but it was way worse.
March 13th, 2024 at 11:14 PM ^
It will be worse next year
there are no underclassmen of quality and the recruiting class is being shit on by Rutgers. Getting 7 wins next year will be top notch. JH will bring in island of misfit toys transfers - most wont pass admissions and the others will be pathetic.
This will be a better year than next year. It could be the worst team in P5 next year. If all goes right it will be a bottom third team in P5 next year. By going right get someone else's scraps as upperclassmen. It is truly amazing how we have ZERO young talent. NOT one player. NOT ONE.
March 13th, 2024 at 11:59 PM ^
We are 3-17 in a below average Big Ten…3 and fucking 17!?!
Beilein rebuilt this program into a perennial power with National recognition.
Howard has destroyed it like Tommy Boy’s sale.
There is no fucking way he can return next year.
Warde is in the clock.
THIS Picture pretty much sums up everything this season with your Tommy Boy reference.
March 14th, 2024 at 12:52 PM ^
You can get a good look at Juwan's future by sticking your head up Warde's ass, but I would rather take his word for it.
March 14th, 2024 at 10:05 AM ^
If Warde cant figure out he needs to fire Juwan, then Ono needs to fire them both
March 14th, 2024 at 12:12 AM ^
Your last part will be correct once Dug transfers. He's young and definitely has talent. If we had a good team we would all be hyped about Jr and Sr season Dug.
March 14th, 2024 at 12:12 AM ^
Maybe they are in the portal by morning, but Dug and Reed are both young talent and here right now.
I agree that there isn’t a ‘solid core’ coming back next year, but that isn’t ZERO and NOT ONE
I agree that Reed is talented. I think his talents would be better utilized in football. For real.
March 14th, 2024 at 11:45 AM ^
Those are both going to be juniors. Neither will sniff the NBA. They would be considered "mid" on any team in the past 12-13 years. Reed v Mo Wagner? Reed v much hated Hunter? Reed v McGary? And don't get me started with Dug vs an array of amazing guards Nik, Caris, Burke. Poole, Livers, Eli, Bufkin - effin Spike was a more complete player.
Tell me ANY player that we have hope for that is not going to be a junior next year. It's a fucking desert.
Maybe the B1G and NCAA can dole out some of that institutional punishment by cancelling the Michigan men's basketball season next year. That would really hurt.

Look at me now, a shadow of the man I used to be...
Look through my eyes and through the years of loneliness you'll see...
To the times in my life when I could not bear to lose
A simple game.
And the least of it all was the fortune and the fame...
But the dream seemed to end just as soon as it had begun...
Was I to know?
For the last thing of all that was on my mind
Was the close at the end of the show.
The shadow of a lonely man feels nobody else...
March 13th, 2024 at 11:18 PM ^
But at least Jace got to play the final 8 minutes. Had to be a rewarding experience for Juwan to watch that
🤷🏻♂️
Can Jace's dad not enter the draft with him?
dude to Juwan's age, he is no longer eligible for the military draft .. that's what we're talking about here, correct ?
March 13th, 2024 at 11:18 PM ^
Rutgers gonna run train on UM next year and the year after
Rutgers. #2 and #4 player in the country. Bags from the mob let's go baby!!!
Our top recruit is #97. Once we pair him with our up and coming young stars. Uhh uhh (checks notes) loool oh once we pair him with nobody....
But juwan related to todays youth. He can get them to the NBA. He is friends with Lebron. He knows the AAU circuit. All of the players are going to come to Juwan. (checks notes) hahahah
March 14th, 2024 at 12:01 AM ^
How about you bring up Rutgers in every post, like it’s some kind of valid argument.
March 14th, 2024 at 12:14 AM ^
If by saying ‘the year after’ you think those guys will stay two years, that is…not certain
What's the obsession with Rutgers? I don't get it. Did I miss something?
As for Michigan and next year they absolutely can be competitive but until we know who the new coach is no need to fret.
March 13th, 2024 at 11:19 PM ^
Give Juwan Howard the option of leaving for...whatever reason. Health concerns. To spend time with the family. To pursue new...horizons. Everyone can pretend it's voluntary. This team--a team he recruited--quit on him. You can't bring him back.
March 13th, 2024 at 11:23 PM ^
Just put his name out there to NBA teams and agree to pay some of his salary to go back to the league....it will stay hush hush and it's a win win for a highly respected former player....
March 14th, 2024 at 11:18 AM ^
He could help coach the Hornets in Charlotte. Jumpman sold the franchise and winning now seems an afterthought in the NBA. Pretending to be successful by getting to the playoffs and trading contracts seems to be the primary interest.
The Hornets keep resigning the losingest head coach in the league to run their losing operation, kind of like the Pistons.
March 13th, 2024 at 11:26 PM ^
I'm actually surprised he'd want to come back. He has other options and this can't be enjoyable at all.
March 13th, 2024 at 11:29 PM ^
There is a 0% chance Juwan is walking away from over a 3 million dollar salary that he's due to earn for the next 2 years.
March 13th, 2024 at 11:53 PM ^
The guy is worth over $100 million dollars. I honestly don’t think he gives two shits about the $3 million dollar contract. Unless you think he’s got some crazy drug problem?
March 13th, 2024 at 11:57 PM ^
He put one son on Scholarship that he didn't deserve and gave another son the spotlight for a nba draft even when it hurt the team.
Thinking that he's worth over 100 million is laughable.
March 14th, 2024 at 12:10 AM ^
Look up his NBA salary.
March 14th, 2024 at 12:15 AM ^
Look up the ESPN documentary "Broke"
March 14th, 2024 at 12:21 AM ^
If you are inferring Jace was on scholarship, and he put Jett in the spotlight to reap financial benefits, because Juwan has money problems or something, you’re dumb as shit.
But it is consistent with believing that he won’t walk away from $3 million for the good of his alma mater.
March 14th, 2024 at 12:30 AM ^
Please. You have no idea what his financial situation is like. Stop talking out of your ass.
Putting a son on scholarship is exactly what any rich parent would do. Doing the opposite is the behaviour of someone who doesn't value money and wants to waste it. If anything he has shown to be more resourceful with his earnings by the very claim you are making against him...
Exactly. Rich people get rich by not spending money they don't have to.
March 14th, 2024 at 11:24 AM ^
Having a son who could earn a scholarship whether rich, a coach or just a lowly average parent in the world of college athletics, is what any parent would seek.
Nope you have to fire him. It has to be a firing to send a message. A soft landing shows weakness and that ineptitude is tolerated
Given comments Howard made earlier in the season about his players, you could make the case he gave up on them.
March 13th, 2024 at 11:19 PM ^
When does the firing happen? Before or After this Sunday?
By Monday would be nice (and appropriate).
In my view it should be today. I see no reason to drag it out. This isn't a tough decision. I have favored letting Juwan finish the year, and now the year is over. There was no surprise conference tournament run for give a glimmer of hope for next year. There's only 1 thing to do.
March 13th, 2024 at 11:19 PM ^
What is the point of keeping Juwan? Next year looks even worse.
