The But I Thought Beilein Sucked Appreciation Thread

This is the thread to upvote everyone in honor of all the dickbags who early in the year wanted Beilein fired. Who said this team sucks and won’t make the tourney. Fuck you and get off the Michigan Fan Wagon. I Love Coach Beilein and hope he never leaves.

Love every bit of him. From his facial twitches all the way to his water gun fights in the locker room. He is so genuine in the way he cares for his players. Thanks for coming to U of M coach!

I doubted Beilein in his first three seasons here.  After that I have stuck with him through all the ups and downs.  The guy is a GREAT coach.  His teams improve as the season wears on.

During the UNC game I was surprised how positive people were even though Michigan was getting pounded. I think last year did a lot to change people’s perspective of him.

Trust the coach, trust the system, and trust things are going on that you have no reason to understand as fans. Just because we don't land Kentucky's recruiting class doesn't mean they aren't good. This can be applied to football as well. Glad to see the team dig deep and pull this game out. Next up B1G championship, then the tourney.

In fairness, most Beilein haters came out last year. About half way through 2016/2017 season we were not even in tourney conversation. The prior 2 years consisted of a team that barely made the tourney only to be quickly dispatched in the first round (counting play-in game is cheap), and a .500 team that didn't even go to the NIT. If Derrick Walton does not go on a tear the second half last year we'd be looking at a very mediocre 3 year stretch that included loses to NJIT, Eastern, and Beilein still not being able to get a decent defense.

Having said that, the people who bashed him early this year deserve some crow. Some early season bad losses were offset with some solid wins, but it was clear that if they could just get some consistency they could be legit. And the second half turn around followed by tourny run should have afforded Beilein some time to get things right.

Is it really fair to say he would have had a mediocre 3 seasons even though one of those seasons we had our top 3 players go down with season ending injuries? It just so happens that we also had 5 early entrants into the NBA the prior 2 years. And saying that it is possible we might have a mediocre season when we have half the schedule left (last year) is concern trolling at its best.

We might want to remember that In 2014-15 we lost both of our starting guards (LeVert and Walton) for the season. The next year we lost LeVert again, plus our 6th man (Albrecht). Unless you believe Beilein caused those guys to get hurt, I think you have to just say that's bad luck.

I fully admit that I was a vocal critic of Coach B’s last year. I was frustrated with our whole program: recruiting, preparation, and performance. I wanted him gone, and I own that... And I could not be happier to be wrong. I genuinely love Coach B. He is a wonderful representative of the university; he’s a true father figure to the players; and, he does things the right and ethical way. His late season surges more than help me forget early season clunker because - honestly- college basketball is about March - not November. And I know he’ll have us rolling by tourney time. I would not want to play MICHIGAN in the tourney right now!!! We are gonna be scary.

Anybody who has watched Michigan basketball for awhile should have recognized the qualities Coach Beilein brought to Ann Arbor.

His offensive system is light years ahead of anything we've ever seen here. He is a master of developing talent, and has a long track record of bringing out the absolute best in his players. He's a fantastic tournament coach. He's brilliant in-game, consistently outcoaching his opponent. He oozes integrity and class.

It's not surprising he doesn't often land the big fish in recruiting - college basketball is chock full of dirty recruiting, and Coach Beilein is absolutely clean.

For almost 20 years this program was a mess; coach Beilein took us to the championship game. I NEVER understood why people ever called for his head.

Without question, he is the finest basketball coach we've ever had.

has been his ability to evolve and adjust to the changing game. Most people, especially at that age group, become more set in their ways and want to stay in their comfort zone. Glad to see that he seems to be having fun and enjoying himself.

I loved him as a hire having been blown away by how intricate a two guard offense he ran at WVU. But what really made me a believer was the Manny Harris tournament team when he took basically a ball dominant guard with limited surrounding talent and built a team that was offensively exceptional. He has also always been a teacher and very honest about the short comings of his team. If you see a problem, he has diagnosed and tried the fix already. He’s never lied to us as a fan base and consistently improves himself as well. I’m just constantly surprised how people just forget. It’s one thing to win with tremendous innovation or talent advantages - it’s quite another to take lightly recruited players, identify their talent and nurture them so well. Look at Blueitt, KBD, Kevin heurter, Vince Edwards - even Klay Thompson! He was in on those players before so many others. He has won everywhere he has gone with his talent his way. Remember that as you get down on Harbaugh. Great coaches who are motivators, teachers, structured, disciplined, with a consistent system and have won at every level don’t suddenly forget how to coach. Subpar performances for them are statistical anomalies. Ohh and every bad year at Michigan for Beilein has been when he doesn’t have a true lead guard. His system depends on it - like a QB for a prostyle offense. Just think it through as you choose to be derisive. Past performance is highly predictive of future results especially with longitudinal experience.

To hear people on this board (rightfully) enthusiastic about Beilein's 2018 recruting class, presently ranked at 15th nationally and 3rd in the BIG at 247, who are equally pissed off at Harbaugh's recruiting after stringing back to back to back classes of 21st, 5th and 8th in the nation and 3rd, 2nd and 2nd in the conference.

Oh, while pulling the #1 kid in the country, any position in 2016 and the #1 receiver in the nation in 2017.

Proof positive that rooting for Michigan is in no way evidence of an ability to reason.
