Was the last Straw for me too. Pulled the plug on them last week, cancelled all service. Now all You Tube TV and streaming for us. A new Frontier for an Oldster like me.
As a former Michigan Football Men’s Cheerleader (from the eighties) I can tell you those flips off the wall continued even after the field was lowered and I have the sore ankles to prove it.
The all Male squad was a tradition from the early 1900’s. Sometime in the 70’s a separate Pom-Pom Squad was started to cheer at Football games in addition to the Mens Squad. Then in the late 70’s / Early 80’s the Pom-pom squad became a traditional coed cheer squad. The coed squad cheered for all the other sports (like basketball) and cheered at home football games only. The male acrobat squad only cheered for Football at both home and away games. The coed squad did not travel in those days except to bowl games.
The all Male squad went away in the mid to late 90’s and wore those traditional heavy wool maize sweaters rain or shine right up until the end. Now only the co-ed squad (and dance team) exists.
Some of the guys from the male cheer squad still come back for homecoming. Some still from the 1950’s. The AD recently changed the rules that allowed large numbers of the alumni cheerleaders to come back and cheer on the field. Now only a very limited number are allowed and are only allowed on the sideline at limited times.
Agreed. I know it’s not realistic, just would be nice to have some sort of balanced schedule. Will never happen given the conference make up. It is true they won most of their one and done’s on the road in the BIG, but in the end having to only play 3 of the other top 6 teams in conference only once is definately an advantage.
I guess last years record 14 draft picks was a “down year” for michigan. Reload and move on. Not worried about “talent”. Game plan and coaching will determine M’s success, as it will OSU’s.
1. Tahquamenon Falls: Upper Falls: great brew pub on site, great view of the second largest falls east of Mississippi after Niagra with a small walk. Red water running over the falls from the tannis in the soil. Unique to NA. Yes, the Falls run Red. Lower Falls: Rental row boats, perfect for families. Row out to the small island in the middle of the river, watch the naturally occuring foam, again from the Tannis, swirl in amazing paterns around your boat. Perfect for a family with little ones. Camping and several small inns nearby. ( use the google)
2. Pictured Rocks, Munising. Stay a night at any of the hotels in town. Take the Sunset Pictured Rocks Boat Cruise, take your camera, and relish one of the most amazing natural scenes in the World. Also, two great brew pubs in town.
3. Porcupine Mountains. Along the shore of Lake Superior. Some of the most beautiful coast line in the US. Easy camping, but also several small inns great for families.
Hit those three and you will have an amazing week.
