I am now officially congratulating him.....
February 9th, 2022 at 5:18 PM ^
Who selected that picture?
He looks like he sharted and is asking Harbaugh for permission to leave early for the day.
But congrats, the guy is a genius...this is great news!
February 9th, 2022 at 5:49 PM ^
Plus 1 for funny comment. People need to lighten up.
February 9th, 2022 at 6:57 PM ^
I think I sharted laughing at this comment. May I leave early?
February 9th, 2022 at 9:51 PM ^
Thanks for the laugh. Shitty day at work for me.
February 9th, 2022 at 4:01 PM ^
That's great News(ome) for him and great News(ome) for Michigan.
February 9th, 2022 at 4:36 PM ^
I'll Grant you that, and add that this is also great News(ome) for we fans.
February 9th, 2022 at 4:54 PM ^
Well, this is all some news to me, but I'll gladly grant that it's gratifying.
February 9th, 2022 at 5:04 PM ^
I think you mean 'Grantifying'.
February 9th, 2022 at 5:44 PM ^
Awesome Newsome news!
February 9th, 2022 at 4:01 PM ^
I have no clue how Newsome will work out as a coach, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt due to how smart and how good of a dude he is. Should hopefully have no issues recruiting
February 9th, 2022 at 10:41 PM ^
Oh yeah, he is going to slay on the trail
February 9th, 2022 at 4:02 PM ^
Math is hard. Less than 6 years later.
February 9th, 2022 at 4:29 PM ^
Yes, math is hard. "Less than 6 years later" and "less than 7 years later" are both mathematically true statements in this case..
February 9th, 2022 at 4:52 PM ^
QED?!?!
February 9th, 2022 at 5:50 PM ^
That’s exactly right!!! 5 times 9 IS at least 40!
February 9th, 2022 at 6:41 PM ^
Wait a second. I'll check with my calculator , , ,

I was there for his injury. It's about as quiet as I've ever seen Michigan stadium. Glad to see that he's being given a shot as a coach!
February 9th, 2022 at 4:26 PM ^
A very forgotten reason as to why that great 2016 team couldn't quite get over the hump. Glad to see he's finding a home as a coach - he might even say his career ending injury is why he's risen so far as a younger guy
February 9th, 2022 at 4:35 PM ^
Not by me. We cruise into the playoff with Newsome playing LT. And would have been much better the next year with fewer hits on Speight.
February 9th, 2022 at 5:04 PM ^
I was too young to fully understand the concepts of football that well during 2016; was our O-line/specifically LT-play that bad?
February 9th, 2022 at 5:06 PM ^
Backup LT could run block but not pass protect. But also we lost by 1 at Iowa and in OT against Ohio State (both because Speight got hurt). Replacing a bad run blocker with an All-American on his way to the first round of the draft in April of 2018 is worth those points.
February 9th, 2022 at 6:47 PM ^
We did not lose to Iowa because Speight got hurt. He got hurt at the end of the game.
February 9th, 2022 at 8:07 PM ^
To continue this line of thinking, I find myself similarly confused when I hear recollections of Newsome's injury and its effect on the season. Newsome was someone who didn't play football until high school, was a true sophomore playing LT, and had five starts under his belt. The fact that he was already starting at that age and holding his own was a great sign of his promise, but saying that he was an "All-American" upon whom our playoff aspirations hinged just doesn't jibe at all with my memory. His injury left a big hole in that we could have gotten 2.5 more seasons out of him, and he was on track to be excellent by the time he graduated, but it seems like people project his future potential onto his actual performance at the time of his injury. Was he the difference between winning and losing two very close games (OSU and Iowa)? Maybe, but this certainly wasn't obvious--unless you're just giving into your inner Uncle Rico.
February 9th, 2022 at 9:47 PM ^
We lost because we couldn’t get a first down late in the game. Not saying Newsome wins that game, but it wouldn’t have hurt.
February 10th, 2022 at 9:12 AM ^
We lost that game because Night Kinnick is a fickle, fickle devil bitch, where punters can run 10 yards to one side and still get "running into the kicker" protection.
February 10th, 2022 at 10:11 AM ^
As I recall, we gave up the lead in that game because we couldn't run the ball effectively and couldn't throw after Speight broke his collarbone. Having our best O-lineman available could've swung the run game more in our favor.
February 9th, 2022 at 5:04 PM ^
First ever double post! Woops
February 9th, 2022 at 5:03 PM ^
I was at the game. I remember thinking he'd be fine after he walked off. It wasn't until much later that day or the next that I heard about the extent of his injuries and how close he got to losing his leg and possibly his life.
February 9th, 2022 at 8:40 PM ^
Me too. Great game though! Sucked to see him go down and JBB was an issue that night.
February 9th, 2022 at 4:02 PM ^
Yeah, he had a bad break, but now he's like a NEWsome man. GRANTed, it took him 7 years to get there, but he did it...
(Hey, you started the puns...)
February 9th, 2022 at 4:06 PM ^
His injury happened during the 2016 season - 5.5 years ago.
February 9th, 2022 at 4:09 PM ^
Technically that's less than 7 years.
Blame me, I said 7 in the OP. A wiser man would have said less than 6.
February 9th, 2022 at 4:11 PM ^
Yeah, I was just quoting the OP. Blame him...
February 9th, 2022 at 4:03 PM ^
Has there been an official OC announcement?
February 9th, 2022 at 4:04 PM ^
This is good news for several reasons. I have to think that it will resonate with some recruits (and their parents) that Newsome was a Michigan player who suffered a terrible injury and saw Harbaugh & Co. rally around him.
February 9th, 2022 at 4:15 PM ^
I think we may tend to overstate the role parents might play in recruiting, but I can’t imagine a better representative for the program.
February 9th, 2022 at 4:34 PM ^
Hold up, there. I thought Harbaugh was impossible to work with and that's why nobody wants to join his staff or play for him. Stay on message.

The staff reorganization is here:
Sherrone Moore – Sanford Robertson Co-Offensive Coordinator/Donald C. Graham Offensive Line Coach
Matt Weiss – Sanford Robertson Co-Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
Ron Bellamy – Wide Receivers
Mike Hart – Run Game Coordinator/Running Backs
Grant Newsome – Tight Ends
Jay Harbaugh – Special Teams Coordinator/Safeties
A new donor is covering a portion of Sherrone's salary as the OL coach. Also Mike is getting a slightly different title and hopefully more money
February 9th, 2022 at 4:15 PM ^
Sanford Robertson out here getting two coaches for the price of one. We should charge double for co-coordinator's.
Also how sad is it that someone feels the need to attach their name to these things. Just donate the money you twat.
February 9th, 2022 at 4:40 PM ^
Or just name one of them after his son.
February 9th, 2022 at 5:54 PM ^
If I'm asked? I'd say, "Thank you for your generous support of our team and its personnel, Mr. Robertson".
That tends to keep the money cannon firing properly.
:-)

Gee, I’m no expert but I’d think giving them something in return for their contribution is a good way to keep the contributions coming. This isn’t out of the norm. Hell, Ross has the entire business school named after him in addition to the entire athletic campus.
February 9th, 2022 at 10:45 PM ^
Putting the names of donors on schools, buildings, job titles, etc., sets a great example and let's other would-be donors know the importance of philanthropy. My professional school had names all over the building. At the time, we laughed about it. But it taught us how important giving is.
February 9th, 2022 at 4:16 PM ^
Sandford Robertson did well.....he gets to sponsor 2, for the price of 1!
That's how you do it, with an MBA from U of M....
DOH!!!!!! beat me to the punch
February 9th, 2022 at 4:28 PM ^
I'm guessing Weiss is probably the ultimate OC. Seemed like he was getting the Vikings' OC job if Jim had got that, and this is hopefully lining up Moore to be our next OC if Weiss heads back to the NFL soon
February 9th, 2022 at 4:08 PM ^
Doesn't get better than that!! Love it!
