Game Thread - Men's Hoops - Michigan at MSU - 9:00 pm tip - Peacock

Submitted by Amazinblu on January 30th, 2024 at 7:46 PM

The Maize & Blue men's hoops team tips off against the Spartans in East Lansing this evening.

The game is scheduled to start at 9:00 pm and will be broadcast on Peacock.

I don't know if this will be a welcome distraction from the other discussions around the football team's coaching decisions, NIL, Warde, etc.   But, if you'd like to comment - here's a spot.

The Spartans are favored by 12.5 points.

If there's a silver lining - the game's on Peacock, which should mean that not many people will tune in.

Go Blue!

It’s amazing just how truly shitty this team becomes in 2Hs of games. They are usually quite competitive in the first half. But then it just all goes to hell—and really fast, too.

What's the opposite of a boa constrictor? That's how the basketball team operates. Give ya a big squeeze in the 1H, then just let go and let you eat us.

We will hear Martelli praising Sadi Washington’s defensive coaching on Sam Webb’s show again . This is laughable the players that don’t see their man and ball at same time .

Remember when RichRod’s teams would come out in the first half and look like they had figured something out, and maybe went into halftime tied or leading a good team, and then the other team would adjust at halftime and blow Michigan’s doors off in the second half? Not sure what made me think of that in this moment…

Damn I would love for Juwan to revamp like Harbaugh and succeed, but I just don't see it. He loves Michigan and that is clear. But we have been consistently worse since Beilein's players moved on. Less fundamentals, less discipline, but most of all, less effort. These players are not being coached to their potential.
Juwan said in an interview he isn't great at making guys have passion to play--that's an enormous red flag for a college coach, and sounds more like somebody best suited for the Association.

I have been a defender of Howard for a while but he either needs to be fired at the end of the year or there needs to be a MASSIVE overhaul of the staff and his approach.  It's inexplicable how badly this team has played this year; on paper this team should at least be competitive in these games and have a league-average defense, and yet they've somehow gotten worse throughout the year.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a team in possession of a position of status within an elite college basketball conference, must be in want of a competent coach.

Firmly in last place! Torvik has us favored in only two remaining games. Losing to your rival in embarrassing fashion. This program is in shambles. Nik is absolutely spot on in his assessment. I’ve said it before, that in a conference with the likes of Nebraska, Rutgers, Penn State, and Northwestern, to be dead last is unacceptable. A total housecleaning is in order.

The last time Michigan bball didn't win 10 games was the '81/'82 season.  You look at the schedule and it's not easy seeing 3 more wins.

The catch with the last couple of years is it seems the sum is less than the parts.  This team wouldn't be a final four contender, but I feel like with good coaching they could be a bubble team for the tourney.

Please time to move on!

But I suspect Warde will use the same "JH got one more year to right the ship and did in 2021"

Unless you have the contract flexibility to push JW to make changes and be under the gun, please cut the cord now.

Shaka Smart has done wonders at Marquette. Bring him in and see the resurgence of a once proud program.
