Fleck or Harbaugh
The question that must be asked, is PJ Fleck a better COLLEGE coach that Harbaugh. Legit question considering what both coaches have so far accomplished given the tools they have been given. It is categorically unquestionable PJ has surpassed JH in his time at Univ Minn., given the respective resources available...i hate Fleck's politics but think he is a better coach...

This is 100% true and given the playoff era, it should be how every major team tries to schedule. Also one less conference game like the SEC.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:15 PM ^
What the Fleck?
November 9th, 2019 at 10:15 PM ^
You’re giving commies a bad name here
November 9th, 2019 at 10:18 PM ^
FFS...we cant even make it through a bye week without criticizing Harbaugh.
Fleck won against a highly overrated PSU team and people are saying he's better. Let's see Minnesota play that game away or a tougher BIG schedule before we dawn him better than JH. Having a schedule riddled with opponents that are sub .500 currently, versus a schedule with 5 top 20 teams isn't remotely close.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:27 PM ^
PJ Fleck's 2019 season = Brady Hoke's first year.
While I think Fleck is a better coach than Hoke, I also think that he's been lucky as hell this year. Luck matters when it comes to having a successful season, but you can't bank on luck to continue. I hope that Fleck's luck continues for the rest of the season but I wouldn't invest in it.
If Fleck is able to maintain this success over the next couple seasons I'll give more credit to the coaching. But he has won a lot of close games against inferior talent this year. This PSU game was the first underdog win and they weren't playing in a white out.
Last year everyone wanted Brohm to be our coach. The grass is always greener.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:36 PM ^
PSU was the PERFECT opportunity for someone good, but not great, to get a huge huge huge underdog win. They were at best good, and Franklin fucking sucks.
Its a huge bummer that Michigan couldn’t get it done. Even so, congrats to PJ for knocking down the paper tiger.
Michigan would beat the gophers, and PSU would lose to Michgian and ND if they played at home.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:30 PM ^
Just shut this blog down.
It was a good ride for awhile.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:31 PM ^
No, he’s a novelty and his Schtik won’t work a Blue Blood School. But he’s a good coach. But I would take Harbaugh hands down and not even look back.
November 9th, 2019 at 11:24 PM ^
Hes a novelty and his schtik wont work at a blueblood school
Say the fans of a guy who slept over a recruits house, got into twitter wars with coaches who won things, runs around having people take pics of him without his shirt, climbs trees, and came in like the biggest attention whore this side of Lou Holtz.
GEEZ since when is having a schtik, a personality, a gimmick, and being able to translate it into wins a bad thing?
November 9th, 2019 at 10:33 PM ^
Minnesota had a similar 4th and 1, to the one UM had at happy valley. Fleck went for it and went down to score, UM punted and PSU went down to score. Those scores turned out to be the difference in each game.
If JH is coaching Minny or LSU they both lose today, IMO.
I think JH is a better coach than Fleck, but Fleck grasps the modern game flow better. He also elevates his QB, JH romanticizes punting to his QBs.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:34 PM ^
Who is this OP? I’ll take Harbaugh any day.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:36 PM ^
The question that must be asked
I wouldn't really say "must."
November 9th, 2019 at 10:37 PM ^
The fact this thread is even debatable makes the point.
Fleck will move on inside of 3 years and we can still wonder what the hell new is going to ever happen at Michigan.
The whole Big Ten is populated w freak athletes by any objective measure. Coaching is all about being a force multiplier. Look around the conference and tell me who multiples the most?
How far down the list in the Big before you get to Harbaugh?
November 9th, 2019 at 11:44 PM ^
Yeah it’s not debatable though. You can pretend it’s debatable I guess. But it’s not.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:39 PM ^
You are a moron and this is a stupid thread.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:40 PM ^
This is insane. You remember we trashed PSU last year at home right? And two years before that? And the year before that too?
come on man.
November 9th, 2019 at 11:02 PM ^
I'm sure PJ Fleck would have loved to have played PSU last year but he was too busy winning the MAC championship (at Western) and going 13-1.
This was his first PSU game, what the fuck do people expect.
He certainly doesn't have the body of work and sustained success of Harbaugh (yet), but he sure as shit reminds me of a young Harbaugh so far.
November 9th, 2019 at 11:11 PM ^
Srsly?
Fleck was 7-6 at Minnesota last year; had a huge win in the Quick Lane Bowl.
Google bruh.
November 9th, 2019 at 11:14 PM ^
I can't, they're watching me.
I only remembered he hadn't played PSU, obviously not that he's been coaching East Dakota for 3 years. They need a PSU crossover.
November 10th, 2019 at 1:12 AM ^
He won the fucking MAC championship while coaching Minnesota? If you don’t know shit about the subject under discussion, maybe don’t post.
November 10th, 2019 at 4:01 AM ^
Yes what happened 3 years ago is more relavant than what happened this season. Hate on Fleck, but he sure as shit is better than Harbaugh this year, despite nowhere near the recruiting success.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:44 PM ^
This is a bad thread and you should not make bad threads ok?
November 9th, 2019 at 10:50 PM ^
I'm just here for the Commiehigh neg bang
November 9th, 2019 at 10:53 PM ^
What would Bo say about Harbaugh’s record?
Would he say “gee whiz give em Five more years” to maybe get to 1-8 in the only f-ing game that ever mattered?
Do I think he should be canned? No, but he sure as hell doesn’t deserve a lifetime blank check. And watching Fleck McGyver great teams out of WMU and Minny can’t help but make one wish they had a shiny fast car too.
November 9th, 2019 at 10:58 PM ^
" The question that must be asked"
Must it?
November 9th, 2019 at 11:06 PM ^
MY assessment of Harbaugh:
He came to Michigan too late. If he had come here HOT on the tails of the Stanford thing, and come in after Rich Rod--it would have been the right time and it would have been magic. BUT he decided to go NFL, or Michigan turned their noses up to him (remember how stucky-uppy everyone was over his comments about Michigan and academics??)
When he left San Francisco he came with his tail between his legs. It was too late and it wasnt where he wanted to be. He had a taste of NFL, had spent 15 years there, and that was his gig. Not this.
He tried being gimmicky and all MY SHIRTS OFF ARRRRG CLIMBING TREE SLEEPING OVER RECRUITS HOUSE I AM A WILD AND CRAZY GUY...
And I do not buy that shit for one second that his trophy wife likes Michigan. She is Cali girl all the way. Who would like Michigan after California??? Maybe some poor schlepp who cannot afford California and you like hanging around fat alcoholics who blame the world for their shitty lives--but other than that?
I mean, wow, yeah, Houghton Lake is so really cool and how about those sand dunes and WHHOOOEEE lets all go stay in the Grand Lodge in Mackinac--DERP
No, no, no. California baby. Highway 1 up and down the coast.
She aint for Michigan, no matter how many Michigan fans wish it to be true. And neither is Jimmy. I think he is gone after this year or next, before he is too much damaged goods and HAS to stay in Michigan.
Im not so sure PJ Fleck would come to Michigan, but they better move if thats who they want--Michigan blew it with Miles and Harbaugh by not hiring them at the Right Moment. Look at OSU--they get Meyer just in time, then can him when the shit gets too deep and hire Day.
Right now Michigan and Notre Dame are barely keeping their heads above water and they both better get something done soon.
November 9th, 2019 at 11:37 PM ^
Sarah Harbaugh is from Kansas.
She's probably A-OK with living in Michigan.
November 9th, 2019 at 11:43 PM ^
When he left San Francisco he came with his tail between his legs.
That's not what happened son
November 9th, 2019 at 11:15 PM ^
If even serious ? Harbaugh by far. In fact Harbaugh checks all the boxes for me as the Michigan Head Coach. Aside from his Coaching skills, knowledge of the game, contacts, and success as a Player (AFC Player of the Year) and Coach (successful everywhere), he loves the University of Michigan and has integrity. We had a game stolen by some bad officiating in Columbus a few years ago that was a correct spot away from Michigan being in the College football playoff. PJ Fleck had a great day and having a great year though.
November 9th, 2019 at 11:17 PM ^
Ask the right question and thou shall receive the correct answer....
B1G Ten East or B1G Ten West?
B1G West of course.
When they play in comparable divisions let's rehash this debate.
November 9th, 2019 at 11:26 PM ^
This has to be up for dumbest post of the year
November 9th, 2019 at 11:26 PM ^
No, that question really doesn't need to be asked.
November 9th, 2019 at 11:29 PM ^
Yeah, I remember when PJ coached the 49ers in the super bowl....
November 9th, 2019 at 11:41 PM ^
and when he upset USC and built one of the greatest college QBs of all time at Stanford. And who could forget those PJ championships at U San Diego....
Yeah, that PJ is a betterer coaching
November 10th, 2019 at 3:28 AM ^
Obviously Harbaugh is better now (2019), because he was gooder than Fleck in 2005, 2006, 2011 and 2012 and 2013. Fleck is only good now (2019) and in 2016. Which Harbaugh is better because more years ago he was better than Fleck is now.
November 10th, 2019 at 3:29 AM ^

Anyone want to go double or nothing on minny losing next week at Iowa? Yes, big win AT HOME, show me on the road, the next week, against a quality opponent.
Any takers?
November 9th, 2019 at 11:42 PM ^
When is that quality opponent showing up?
November 10th, 2019 at 11:33 AM ^
Dude, everyone here was saying wait until Minnesota plays Penn state, they're going to get blown out. Now all of a sudden the benchmark has moved to beating Iowa? If they win that then they won't possibly beat Wisconsin? What if they win that one too? When will it be ok to say that Fleck is a good coach?
In my opinion what he's done this year, and in 2016 at Western is enough for me to admit that Fleck is a good coach right now. I'm tired of justifying why other coaches have better records now, with less talent than we do, because Harbaugh had success at Stanford 9 years ago.
November 10th, 2019 at 1:35 PM ^
That isn't even close to what "everyone here" was saying. Most were pointing out that PSU was significantly overrated and that Minny could easily pull out a win given that.
November 9th, 2019 at 11:37 PM ^
why mention politics??
November 9th, 2019 at 11:38 PM ^
wish I could down vote you 12,000 times to put you in negative for even mentioning politics
November 9th, 2019 at 11:41 PM ^
Minnesota finally wins their first game of consequence this season against an extremely overrated penn state team and this is the shit we have to look at? Maybe the bye week needs to be for take masters as well. We deserve a break too.
November 10th, 2019 at 5:34 PM ^
So then, Michigan LOST to an extremely overrated Penn State team?
November 9th, 2019 at 11:43 PM ^
before PSU today - who has Minn played? Michigan would be undefeated at this point with that schedule? They would also probably be a 1- Loss team if the PSU game has been at home instead of a white our night game. Fleck is a good coach. Harbaugh is a good coach.
November 9th, 2019 at 11:56 PM ^
Beat State.
November 10th, 2019 at 12:00 AM ^
Reading the board today - I just want to know what the hell Harbaugh did to fuck up his bye week. I must be missing something,
November 10th, 2019 at 12:14 AM ^
Fleck’s a good coach but his win today was the biggest he’s ever had. It’s easy to get up for one big game. If he beats Wisconsin and Iowa I’ll be impressed. But seriously, on a neutral field, Michigan beats the Gophers by a couple of touchdowns (at least the way we’ve been playing).
Good for Minnesota, though. I can’t remember when they’ve even been close to a Rose Bowl possibility.
November 10th, 2019 at 3:45 AM ^
Exactly, we are sure to beat them for sure. They may have beat Penn State today, but we almost beat Penn State a few weeks ago, so we are better. Clearly.
