That already happened. Erick All has been injured all year and Michigan is 13-0. We've heard the phrase "Colston Loveland doing Colston Loveland things" but not "Erick All doing Erick All things."

I really liked Erick All and he's an excellent tight end but he doesn't have the same ceiling as Colston Loveland.

I don't wish All ill at all (hmm, that phrasing may look jokey but is earnest).

I feel bad for him. Spinal surgery is serious. Being a father is serious. His future is hard. I wish it were all easier for him, with the health parts in particular being better or untrue.

And I do hope he can prove us wrong, prove the choosing of his operation wise, prove able to take one more year of football contact, if not twelve, and perform at the highest level all the while.

His behavior here is poor--that goes double for his family's. Duh. But I can judge the behavior without judging the people. They are in a supremely tough and emotional situation. I've acted poorly in easier circumstances than theirs. It just sucks, end of transmission. I can only hope they get theirs and get better. I can have no interest in the opposite.

I don't necessarily take Maya to be of a different mind on this.

After all, I think judgment of behavior for what it is (judging the act for the act, rather than the person for the act) is fully non-problematic.

At that point if I were to apply a probabilistic lens to a bad behaving recidivist, I can protect myself against expecting they will ever choose to correct course while at the same time not ruling them out as literally irredeemable.

Good for you to be able to avoid judging the people, especially given that this was apparently unprovoked and it is not the first time.  At some point, repeated behavior speaks to character.

Edit- so apparently not completely unprovoked.  Seems like some people twitted stupid stuff at the All in response to his tweet about going to Iowa.  However, the response seems totally disproportionate.

I said it in the Wolverine Corner tweet and I’ll say it here.  I have zero respect for any father that would push his son to have back surgery performed by very lightly credentialed surgeons at a Florida strip mall over the advice of some of the best clinicians in the world.

His POS father (and now I’m thinking brother too) was far more worried about Erik’s ability to generate a paycheck for them in the NFL than his risk for post-op paralysis.

Taking shots at other Michigan players on the way out? Fuck both of them.  They are genuinely shitty people.

While I agree with a lot of your points, this is beyond dumb fuck behavior from this family and if Eric makes the NFL it’s gonna cost him financially. Christ he’s a man who should be able to speak for himself yet his dads acting like an absolute dipshit yelling from the Twitter tops. Imagine what the Michigan staff has dealt with behind the scenes from this guy. No nfl franchise needs or wants pissed off daddy throwing tantrums every time he feels his son was slighted. If this was me my son he would have told me to shut the fuck up and he’d have been 100% correct. This is the epitome of drama.

It’s crazy that they actually call out another guy on the team. It’s extremely insecure, of his family at least, to feel the need to do that. I don’t know if he’s okay with these tweets or what but I haven’t I heard anything to the contrary. Weak sauce All family. I would say I expect better but Twitter is a cesspool and reactionary emotional people say dumb things all the time.

"Was."

First law of marketing: everything about you affects your brand. Ask Mel Gibson. Or Tom Cruise. Or even, now, Tom Brady. People can't think of the professional without thinking about the stuff around them.

And, yes, Erick All absolutely could control his out-of-control father and brother. Tell them to be quiet and respectful. Or, get out there yourself and distance yourself from the comments.

Now, Erick All will be "that talented TE with a complaining attitude and the crazy family." Not a good look for NFL teams. Teams absolutely take these things into consideration. Unless the team is an amoral cesspool like the Browns and you're a player of the talent level of Deshaun Watson, most don't need the baggage. This stuff alone will drop All's draft stock, to the extent that he keeps any, which translates directly into starting salary.

Hope it was worth it.

Dear Erik and senior, if you're reading this (and you probably are), feel free to just delete everything from the past week and paste this.

"I have learned a lot during my time at the University of Michigan and have appreciated my opportunities.  Going forward, I can't wait to **insert nice thing about Iowa football here. Maybe "watch punts"?** in Iowa City. Go Hawkeyes"

Possibly. We’ll see next year how they compare. Loveland looks to have a great trajectory but All has proven himself already. Will have to do so again after having surgery and sitting for a year. I’d be thankful to have All back but wish him the best in Iowa City. Am glad to have Loveland regardless.

I will never understand those who think the best way to promote someone is by tearing down others. The All family looks petty and just plain dumb. If you have a problem with Jim or the program, just come out and say it; putting down Loveland is foolish at best.

3 months ago: Did you see that cool story on Erik All being saved from a house fire.  So touching

Reminds me of a joke...   So a guy was sitting around lamenting about his life and his name.

"It's hard living in this town with Jim the Hero. I mean, yea, he's a firefighter and saved all those kids from the orphanage fire, but I've done some good things too!  I was there catching the kids with him!  Or Bob the Bricklayer, I made bricks with that guy for a decade, half the houses in this town have been built with these hands.  But no, not me, only they get the cool names, you can spend a lifetime saving kids and building the town but if you **** just one goat..."

Not a good look. Regardless of their feelings for Michigan taking shots at a former teammate, and a freshman at that is sparty level behavior.

I don’t generally get worked up about kids not leaving gracefully, but All’s dad seems like a complete piece of shit. Absolutely toxic and I’m glad nobody close to him will be in our program going forward. Good fucking riddance

When Erick intentionally set out to damage the recruiting, the team, the program, and the coaches he cancelled out the good will he earned by playing well, I originally said that I didn't wish him ill but I was then simply neutral with regard to him. Now that he and his family are in full attack mode he has earned my ill will.
