Erick All's Family Taking Shots at Michigan and Colston Loveland
December 15th, 2022 at 7:17 AM ^
Yeah. I am now solidly in the “will not root for” and the “hope you get the dropsies again” camp.
December 15th, 2022 at 5:33 AM ^
Because his brother used the word "penis breath" and that is a funny word.
December 15th, 2022 at 7:52 AM ^
It's two words, actually.
December 15th, 2022 at 8:37 AM ^
But only one of them is funny.
December 14th, 2022 at 10:26 PM ^
Erick All can go play at Iowa for all I care.
Loveland will make everyone forget who Erick All is.
Book it
December 14th, 2022 at 10:34 PM ^
That already happened. Erick All has been injured all year and Michigan is 13-0. We've heard the phrase "Colston Loveland doing Colston Loveland things" but not "Erick All doing Erick All things."
I really liked Erick All and he's an excellent tight end but he doesn't have the same ceiling as Colston Loveland.
December 15th, 2022 at 1:34 AM ^
I don't wish All ill at all (hmm, that phrasing may look jokey but is earnest).
I feel bad for him. Spinal surgery is serious. Being a father is serious. His future is hard. I wish it were all easier for him, with the health parts in particular being better or untrue.
And I do hope he can prove us wrong, prove the choosing of his operation wise, prove able to take one more year of football contact, if not twelve, and perform at the highest level all the while.
His behavior here is poor--that goes double for his family's. Duh. But I can judge the behavior without judging the people. They are in a supremely tough and emotional situation. I've acted poorly in easier circumstances than theirs. It just sucks, end of transmission. I can only hope they get theirs and get better. I can have no interest in the opposite.
December 15th, 2022 at 4:31 AM ^
But I can judge the behavior without judging the people.
Then you're a more understanding person than I am. I've long believed that the behavior shows you who the person really is.
As Maya Angelou once said, "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time."
December 15th, 2022 at 6:14 AM ^
Just remember, people can grow and change. If I had to be judged for who I was 20 years ago…
December 15th, 2022 at 8:42 AM ^
ok? but this is judging someone for their behavior from yesterday
December 15th, 2022 at 10:14 AM ^
OK, so what is All Sr.'s excuse?
December 15th, 2022 at 2:42 PM ^
He'll be a better person in 20 yrs? or something
December 15th, 2022 at 9:57 AM ^
I don't necessarily take Maya to be of a different mind on this.
After all, I think judgment of behavior for what it is (judging the act for the act, rather than the person for the act) is fully non-problematic.
At that point if I were to apply a probabilistic lens to a bad behaving recidivist, I can protect myself against expecting they will ever choose to correct course while at the same time not ruling them out as literally irredeemable.
December 15th, 2022 at 10:30 AM ^
Good for you to be able to avoid judging the people, especially given that this was apparently unprovoked and it is not the first time. At some point, repeated behavior speaks to character.
Edit- so apparently not completely unprovoked. Seems like some people twitted stupid stuff at the All in response to his tweet about going to Iowa. However, the response seems totally disproportionate.
December 15th, 2022 at 6:55 AM ^
I said it in the Wolverine Corner tweet and I’ll say it here. I have zero respect for any father that would push his son to have back surgery performed by very lightly credentialed surgeons at a Florida strip mall over the advice of some of the best clinicians in the world.
His POS father (and now I’m thinking brother too) was far more worried about Erik’s ability to generate a paycheck for them in the NFL than his risk for post-op paralysis.
Taking shots at other Michigan players on the way out? Fuck both of them. They are genuinely shitty people.
December 15th, 2022 at 10:16 AM ^
Don't think that Erick doesn't share the same sentiment, save for an apologetic tweet.
December 15th, 2022 at 8:19 AM ^
While I agree with a lot of your points, this is beyond dumb fuck behavior from this family and if Eric makes the NFL it’s gonna cost him financially. Christ he’s a man who should be able to speak for himself yet his dads acting like an absolute dipshit yelling from the Twitter tops. Imagine what the Michigan staff has dealt with behind the scenes from this guy. No nfl franchise needs or wants pissed off daddy throwing tantrums every time he feels his son was slighted. If this was me my son he would have told me to shut the fuck up and he’d have been 100% correct. This is the epitome of drama.
December 15th, 2022 at 9:16 AM ^
I agree with basically everything being said here. But regardless of emotion, show some maturity. Erick should shut his family up. Move on and get better. End of story.
December 15th, 2022 at 5:36 AM ^
The silly part of this whole thing is that Michigan uses more tight ends than any team I can think of. Seems there would be plenty of snaps for Loveland, All and another TE or two.
December 15th, 2022 at 8:44 AM ^
He’s not leaving over playing time, Michigan supposedly would not clear him medically.
December 14th, 2022 at 11:32 PM ^
It’s crazy that they actually call out another guy on the team. It’s extremely insecure, of his family at least, to feel the need to do that. I don’t know if he’s okay with these tweets or what but I haven’t I heard anything to the contrary. Weak sauce All family. I would say I expect better but Twitter is a cesspool and reactionary emotional people say dumb things all the time.
December 14th, 2022 at 11:45 PM ^
I don't understand why it had to be one or the other. There was a path forward where everyone could remember Erick All fondly as a captain and key contributor to back-to-back Big Ten champions and be excited for the future of Colston Loveland.
December 15th, 2022 at 9:49 AM ^
"Was."
First law of marketing: everything about you affects your brand. Ask Mel Gibson. Or Tom Cruise. Or even, now, Tom Brady. People can't think of the professional without thinking about the stuff around them.
And, yes, Erick All absolutely could control his out-of-control father and brother. Tell them to be quiet and respectful. Or, get out there yourself and distance yourself from the comments.
Now, Erick All will be "that talented TE with a complaining attitude and the crazy family." Not a good look for NFL teams. Teams absolutely take these things into consideration. Unless the team is an amoral cesspool like the Browns and you're a player of the talent level of Deshaun Watson, most don't need the baggage. This stuff alone will drop All's draft stock, to the extent that he keeps any, which translates directly into starting salary.
Hope it was worth it.
December 15th, 2022 at 1:16 PM ^
Let's be honest, he's not going to be a Patrick Mahomes level contributor at the NFL level and I'd wager most people are sick of PMs family. Can't be a moderate talent and have baggage of crazy Twitter family as well.
December 14th, 2022 at 10:26 PM ^
That was absolutely disgusting and thank you WD for standing up and saying something!
December 14th, 2022 at 10:43 PM ^
Agreed. 3 cheers for WD.
December 14th, 2022 at 10:27 PM ^
I dont know about Erik, but his family is a dumpster fire. At this point both parties just need to move on. He is a Hawkeye now.
December 14th, 2022 at 10:35 PM ^
Michigan has moved on…the All family and a contingent of Michigan fans unfortunately have not. If Erik All would’ve never put out his cryptic tweet and either put out nothing or something at least acknowledging some good memories and teammates this would’ve never been a thing.
December 15th, 2022 at 12:50 PM ^
Dear Erik and senior, if you're reading this (and you probably are), feel free to just delete everything from the past week and paste this.
"I have learned a lot during my time at the University of Michigan and have appreciated my opportunities. Going forward, I can't wait to **insert nice thing about Iowa football here. Maybe "watch punts"?** in Iowa City. Go Hawkeyes"
December 14th, 2022 at 10:27 PM ^
Sour dough
December 15th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
Hate it - it always surprises me when I am in the Bay area. God awful stuff - suppose it is an acquired taste like those coffee beans that get pooped out by weasles or sloths or capybaras and cost a fortune.
December 14th, 2022 at 10:28 PM ^
I’m gonna not rip on All because of whatever his family says. He’s better than a true freshman. Yes. Moving on.
December 14th, 2022 at 10:34 PM ^
True sophomore Loveland probably better than All returning from spine surgery in my eyes.
December 14th, 2022 at 10:55 PM ^
Possibly. We’ll see next year how they compare. Loveland looks to have a great trajectory but All has proven himself already. Will have to do so again after having surgery and sitting for a year. I’d be thankful to have All back but wish him the best in Iowa City. Am glad to have Loveland regardless.
December 15th, 2022 at 10:17 AM ^
Of course he is, ask yourself the last time you've seen a true freshman perform like this so early... though not at blocking. All was quite good at that.. but there is still time.
December 14th, 2022 at 10:28 PM ^
I will never understand those who think the best way to promote someone is by tearing down others. The All family looks petty and just plain dumb. If you have a problem with Jim or the program, just come out and say it; putting down Loveland is foolish at best.
December 14th, 2022 at 10:29 PM ^
Loveland will be a day 2 pick.
December 14th, 2022 at 10:34 PM ^
Or maybe a day one pick. NFl is in love with athletic TEs right now.
December 14th, 2022 at 10:38 PM ^
I would love nothing more than for Schoonmaker to come back, can you imagine him AND Loveland on the field together similar to Bowers and Washington for Georgia?
December 15th, 2022 at 10:34 AM ^
wait until he adds 20 lbs of muscle
December 14th, 2022 at 10:29 PM ^
3 months ago: Did you see that cool story on Erik All being saved from a house fire. So touching
Today: F U buddy
December 15th, 2022 at 10:19 AM ^
Strange way that life goes. You can do 100 good things, but when you do one bad thing all those good things go away and most people only remember the bad. Sucks, but that's life.
December 15th, 2022 at 12:57 PM ^
Reminds me of a joke... So a guy was sitting around lamenting about his life and his name.
"It's hard living in this town with Jim the Hero. I mean, yea, he's a firefighter and saved all those kids from the orphanage fire, but I've done some good things too! I was there catching the kids with him! Or Bob the Bricklayer, I made bricks with that guy for a decade, half the houses in this town have been built with these hands. But no, not me, only they get the cool names, you can spend a lifetime saving kids and building the town but if you **** just one goat..."
December 14th, 2022 at 10:32 PM ^
Not a good look. Regardless of their feelings for Michigan taking shots at a former teammate, and a freshman at that is sparty level behavior.
December 14th, 2022 at 10:34 PM ^
I don’t generally get worked up about kids not leaving gracefully, but All’s dad seems like a complete piece of shit. Absolutely toxic and I’m glad nobody close to him will be in our program going forward. Good fucking riddance
December 14th, 2022 at 10:49 PM ^
When Erick intentionally set out to damage the recruiting, the team, the program, and the coaches he cancelled out the good will he earned by playing well, I originally said that I didn't wish him ill but I was then simply neutral with regard to him. Now that he and his family are in full attack mode he has earned my ill will.
December 14th, 2022 at 11:54 PM ^
Just think how pissed they will All be when Michigan takes home the natty….
December 14th, 2022 at 10:36 PM ^
If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything All.
December 14th, 2022 at 10:47 PM ^
Or, keep it really short..
Perhaps something as simple as.. “We have a different perspective about ‘X’”. Or, let’s agree to disagree.
