Delicious Schadenfreude: Michigan National Championship Edition

Submitted by The Harbaughnger on January 9th, 2024 at 8:43 AM

We really needs a dedicated schadenfreude thread- I'll start:

Rent-free schadenfreude: 11 Warriors and RCMB are littered with angry butt-hurt, obsessive jealousy, desperate excuse-making, predictable denial, and deliciously sweet tears. Drink it in!:

My OSU buddies are chirping about how our title is going to be vacated in less than six months. Because of course they are. I love those guys, but damn, when it comes to all things OSU vs Michigan, throw rational thought out the window. Of course, I freely and fully admit that if the shoe were on the other foot, I’d probably be saying similar things. 🤣

That is the last straw they have to grasp so of course that's what they are saying.  Nothing will be vacated and OSU is just going to be left with their narrative of excuses which is what their fanbase has come to be throughout the last 3 years.  Their Coach is the chief of excuses so just plan on hearing it forever.  The games were played and Michigan won them all.  No one can ever take away what was already seen.  Go Blue!

I enjoy a good schadenfreude, but the toxicity of fanbases and talking heads really poisons the college game.  Outside of Mgoblog and the podcasts, the only other place I go to for College Football content is the Sirius College football station.  I can stomach Eleven Warriors for the most part, but I find RCMB to be a miserable depressing blog.

RCMB is a miserable, depressing blog because it’s filled with miserable, depressed people. I’ve never seen so much anger, hatred, and self-loathing in a fanbase, or any group of people for that matter (excluding Trump supporters). It’s almost sad. But we’re not here to talk about that.

What kills me about MSU fans is that they became even more arrogant/cocky/ridiculous on social media AFTER the 49-0 embarrassment. Like, maybe take a step back and re-evaluate? 🤣

Ohio State fans are absolutely insufferable, for the most part, but they aren’t *nearly as deluded* as MSU fans are.

There used to be someone in the RCMB forums who was a good writer and I learned a lot about MSU football from reading his game previews, reviews, etc. I don't know what happened to him but there's nothing good over there anymore as far as I know. I don't care to hear what MSU and OSU folks say when they're just lashing out, because they get so bizarrely personal with their hate. One thing I did notice during the dark years is that they talk about us just as much when we're losing as when we're winning. At this point, OSU and MSU are just like mosquitos. Slap them, brush them off, and preferably just find a spray that will keep them away.

I think this has always been the worst part of CFB (compared to the NFL). I know some love the tribalism, but for me, there's something about walking down the street with a Lions shirt on and having not a single person be bothered by it. I love the unity that comes from pro sports.

Having said that, this means so fucking much to me. It's been a part of my identity since I was 6 and now I can finally breathe. There will be a new champion next year and in the years following, but for now, we are undisputed national champions. All the tears I've cried over the years (Spartan Bob, losing to OSU countless times being the main ones) and all of the pain I've held inside is gone. My 12 year old self can die happy.

I love this team. I love this school. I love Coach Harbaugh.

Life is fucking good. Go Blue.

I could stomach 11W *before* the Stallions stuff. In 2021 and 2022, it was so fun going there after The Game and reading all the angry posts about firing everyone, the team was soft, etc.

Now it appears to be nearly as much of a cesspool as RCMB. I went there after their bowl loss to Missouri b/c I couldn't help myself. Then I went again after the Rose Bowl and while some are reasonable enough to admit reality, most are still stuck on the BuT tHeY cHeAtEd BS. So I enjoy the OP's screenshot of the bitter thread titles but I won't go there myself today.

I just don't have it in me to go read those sites so I am grateful for those of you who make the sacrifice and post these, I'm certainly not above laughing my ass off.

Some narratives that are dead this morning.

1. You can't win a NC without top 5 recruiting classes.

2. Harbaugh's offensive style will never win a NC.

3. It's an offensive game now. Defense no longer wins championships.

4. It just means more.

That is the beauty of what this team has accomplished.  As we sit here and realize that Michigan won because of leadership and players that constantly had the focus of the team the team the team, all outsiders are just flabergasted on how Michigan even won a championship.  It wasn't because of all the 5 stars we have.  This more than anything else will be written about for months to come because we just dominated college football because we wanted it more than anyone else.

A sad and sorry lot, licking their wounds, begrudging their superiors.

Reading some of the haterade comments out and about, it really makes me glad I’m not naïve enough to think The Stalions Efect was a critical part of M’s success these last few years. I feel bad for the very young fans, though: the kids who don’t understand, as I’ve had to talk some of my friends’ disheartened children off a cliff about the whole thing. Which really pisses me off- those joy-thieves preying on the weak and credulous. They are despicable, and have a deleterious impact on society.
