My theory is, if you play college for the money only, you are not going to be as passionate or play as tuff (want to run into the LB etc) play in snow, etc... and it proved accurate I believe w CJ. I hope the way UM is approaching NIL proves to be the right approach, pay the "players" let the prima donna's go elsewhere and get their $2.5 million dollar plus deals and play soft for themselves and not the team.

I can't decide how I feel.  On the one hand, I don't mind OSU trying to break in a new QB with a trip to Ann Arbor at the end of the year.  On the other, CJ really couldn't get past Michigan, despite all his talent and success in most games against not-Michigan.

Stroud was good against us last year, and passable this year but kinda melted down in the 4th quarter. Osu doesn’t have a Stroud problem, they have a culture problem. 5 star receivers everywhere who cannot block, nobody even remotely impressive in their secondary, a d line full of 5 stars who get comparatively little pass rush, and, most damning of all, are soft top to bottom. And now their best player is gone

Day is coaching for his job in Ann Arbor this November

OSU is built to win a National Championship.  Michigan is built to beat Ohio State.

However, with a 12 team CFP, Ohio State will regularly get shots at a National Championship even without beating Michigan.

So that is an interesting situation for them to be in.  How much do you change that?

I don’t wish him ill at all

but I will be surprised if he has NFL success given his inability to progress through reads or stay accurate under pressure

I don’t see it. If he has a clean pocket, he’s exceptional. On the run and under pressure he seems skittish and loses his accuracy. In the modern NFL you have to be able to throw on the run — Burrows, Allen, Mahomes — unless you have exceptional pocket presence and decision-making like Brady. That’s hard to predict, but when I watched Stroud this year I didn’t see his fame translating to the NFL, and that’s the main reason I would not want the Lions to take him.

Did you watch the OSU v GA game?  He showed out vs pressure.  Ran well.  GA and Bama are as close to NFL defenses as you will get in the college game.

You are hand picking the best QBs in the game.  (and misspelled Burrow) For every of those elite there are 3 Jared Goffs or Geno Smiths out there.

Goff had an exceptional pocket and thrived (2nd lowest sacks/pressures etc)   Why couldn't Stroud?

People didn't think Jalen Hurts would be what he is today - he was just a 1 read runner.  Now MVP candidate.

I have no idea how he does in the NFL but he made some elite throws the past 2 years.  And apparently has some running ability he was never using.

Yeah - The UGA game was an anomaly- but perhaps he DOES have that ability and didn’t show it until that game.  As to his running ability - he can run but to my eyes he looked like a right handed pitcher throwing left handed…..he could do it but wasn’t comfortable doing it.  So maybe he can be coached into consistently showing both of those things; but it would be at least a minor surprise.

There are two ways to look at that performance. On the surface, wow, OSU really played out against a great UGA team. Dig a little deeper though, and you start to wonder where that gameplan was when they played us. Only thing I can conclude is coaching malpractice by Day...

I think neither the GA coaching staff nor the players were prepared, game plan wise or psychologically for Stroud to run.  It was a surprise things, given that he didn't run versus Michigan.

If the GA-OSU game is played again, say a week after, there is a tiny possibility that OSU wins but even if they do Stroud would not look nearly as good and might not even be able to add much value running.

And, in all honesty, if the UM-OSU game was played again a week after, Stroud would have run a lot, as much as he ran against GA.

Who is expected to be the QB at OSU next year?  The game is at our place.  This has the makings of a fire Ryan Day year ... they may get their ass handed to them by us.

Honestly, I hope he finds success in life. Kid went from living in a storage unit with his family after they lost their home. he seems like a decent kid other than choosing to play for OSU.

If the Lions are to succeed they won't be picking anywhere near the top 10 in the next half decade.  Hard to find the elite talent outside the top 5-6.  Obviously there are once every 10 year exceptions people always point to but reality is Burrow 1, Tua 5, Herbert 6, Lawrence 1, Murray 1, Jones 6, Allen 7 in recent years.  Even Mahomes was 10.

Second if you have a playoff caliber team you don't want to be throwing a rookie out there.   Goff expires in 24.  So either your hitching Lions to him long term post 24 or paying him stupid money under franchise tags that doesn't fit his talent base.

Not saying take Stroud but Lions are not getting Drake May or Caleb Williams sitting at 22-28 next year. Or year after etc.

It's Lions luck the past 2 years they have the high pick but some mediocre QB draft classes (last year's was putrid).

He may be a bucknut, but his farewell tweet was well done. Class act, definitely.

And? It was this Wolverine's pleasure to see him crushed in 21 and 22 (I also enjoyed yelling "WIDE LEFT". Yes, that was a gooooooooood moment! 😁)

Good for him.

He had a poor showing against Michigan, then went out guns blazing vs. national champion Georgia, 348 yards and 4 TDs.  We'll see how well he performs at the NFL. Because, my God, does the NFL need better quarterbacks.

I guess that means Michigan faces either #6 Kyle McCord or #15 Devin Brown at QB or true frosh Lincoln Kienholz in Ann Arbor next November? Should be a good challenge.

He really didn’t play that poorly against us. Maybe didn’t make any heroic plays, and the wheels fell off the bus in crunch time, but it was the coaches who screwed him over this year. Imagine how bad the OSU beatdowns could get if they add poor quarterback play to the mess they have right now. Might get something like 52-16
