Ohio State turned into a pass centric version of Kevin Wilson's Indiana.  Stroud running the ball would have given Michigan problems, but Buckeyes abandoned that for some reason.

McCord is a 5-star. Devin Brown a 4-start and Lincoln Kienholz is a very talented QB, precisely the kind of gutsy Carson Wenz/Easton Stick QB who runs and throws equally well, and would just wins big games for North Dakota State Bison. Except he'll be wearing scarlet and gray.

A lot of talent to be excited about, but they're all pretty inexperienced.  An opportunity for Hartline to change the attack recipe.

Good news is he's going to get paid a lot of money. I don't how successful he'll be in the NFL.  His throws and touch were always impressive to me.  It's possible my eyes were fooled as his star studded receivers bailed him out.

I know this - with few exceptions the NFL quarterback situation across a dozen plus teams is a proverbial tire fire. CJ Stroud is probably better than over half of them.  And I think he is wise to accept the opportunity and the paycheck.

He had a better WR core in 21 at OSU than maybe all but 2-3 NFL franchises. Or maybe none - I am thinking Miami and Cincy's top 2-3.   Its truly remarkable - Olave and Wilson shined as rookies and JSN was more terrifying than those 2.  Oh and 4th string was Marvin Harrison Jr.  Those are going to be 4 first rounders.  Let me know what NFL team has that talent.

It's going to probably be one of the few times in history a guy goes to NFL and gets a downgraded WR room v college!

Stroud didn't lose the Michigan game.

But that INT in the redzone was a huge mistake. And Michigan made them pay dearly for it, in unlikely fashion.  The latter event is not Stroud's fault. But the INT was on him.  His WRs and TE dropped well thrown passes that could have shifted the outcome of the game a bit. Michigan defended them well.  Not on Stroud really.

I've seen Stroud run the ball this year.  Pretty clear he hated doing so because he probably hated getting hit. That might be an issue at the next level IMO as NFL QBs are now expected to run the ball a lot more than ever.

to the mess they have right now

Let's not get carried away here.

ohio is a team that lost on the last play of the game to the B2B national champs.

ohio will also be ranked ahead of Michigan when the first poll comes out this late summer (despite Michigan dominating them B2B).

There are about 120 schools that would love to have ohio's "mess".

I'm not going to act disappointed that Stroud is leaving. Their chances of winning next year in Ann Arbor were greater with him than without him. If we are being objective, Stroud was hardly the reason they have lost the last two against Michigan. He played well in both games. He made one mistake against UM on the pass that was intercepted by Upshaw this year. His performance against Georgia was borderline great, and if Ruggles makes the last FG the entire narrative on Stroud is different. ( Don't get me wrong, I jumped for joy when that FG was wide).

He seems like a good kid, is it strange as prolific as he was that I was hoping he'd come back?  I enjoy playing them a lot more when they have a QB who doesn't run.

Yes, I understand that Dwayne Haskins torched us, but still.

If he doesn’t get the rivalry, that seems odd to me since he coached under Meyer. As many bad things as I can say about Meyer on a personal level, when it came to rivalry games he’s about as good as they come, and he knew how to win this rivalry in particular.

How would you not pick some things up from him?

Good kid for sure. That being said, how do draft bros see him vs Justin Fields in terms of the better prospect coming out? Fields is clearly the better athlete and all, but something about Stroud seems special - if you get him on a team with a good OL/let him sit for a year (both of these being the Mahomes special in 2017)

0-2 vs Michigan. 0-0 in Big Ten Title games. 0-1 in playoff games. Lost 2 biggest home games in his two years (2021 Oregon, 2022 Michigan).

And did I mention 0-2 vs Michigan?

My gut says they’ll be fine. They’re still able to out-talent most everyone in the Big Ten, and as long as someone can get the ball in Marvin Harrison Jr.’s general vicinity they’ll still be a lethal offense. They still recruit better than everyone in the conference.

That said, if I’m Ryan Day I’m pretty darn nervous about taking my team into Ann Arbor next season. Next year’s Michigan team could be the best team it’s ever had, and is largely going to be the exact same one that ground you into a fine paste in your own stadium a few months ago. If I lose that game, I may be out of a job.

They just reload on offense.  Go look at their last 3 recruiting classes.  It's just replace 4 star with 5 star with 4 star with 5 star.   Their skill position recruiting is top 1-3 every year.  They have 3 good QB prospects, I am sure 1 of those will be a hit.

Interesting to me they have QBs willing to sit in the wings and be able to stack them class after class when we've been told we cannot recruit a QB who is willing to sit a year because JJ is here etc.  Maybe because they all go to the NFL nowadays but it's still interesting.

Stroud was great against Georgia. Whether it was his coaches or his mind, he just wouldn't run until that game. When he finally forced a defense to respect his arm and his legs he was pretty damn good.

It's been a long time (Herbie?) since we saw an osu QB leave for the pros without ever beating us - feels really, really good.

What did the barber say?

Well, we're gonna have a superb QB rounding into form, with an enormous playbook at his disposal. OSU will be hoping to shoehorn in a new guy. I'll take it.

CJ6 > CJ7

Nothing against him as a person, seems like a decent kid who balled out against UGA.  Here's hoping for his sake he'll have cornerback teammates that aren't complete forking buttcheeks who don't have announcers saying GOT A WIDE OPEN RECEIVER

(seriously though: real talk, if you combined both ours and their teams this year... who from them starts in the secondary???)

Completely disregarding the “he’d be stupid to come back to just go 0-3 against Michigan” chatter, he’d have been an absolute idiot to turn down what could easily be top-5 pick money.

He answered a lot of questions about his abilities in the Georgia game, so he’s going to get paid in April. I don’t care what OSU could’ve offered him, or whatever “monster NIL deal” they were supposedly preparing. They could not/should not offer what the NFL could, and even if they somehow did, all it would’ve amounted to is that Stroud would’ve been pushing back the date he gets to his second contract, which is where the real money is made. Reducing the amount of years he has in the league, reducing his earning potential. And then what happens if he gets injured next year? His draft value plummets.

Anywho, he made the right decision. Best of luck to him.

What a strange legacy he's going to have.  He might be the best pure passer OSU has ever had, and could go on to a bright NFL future.  But OSU fans will always remember him as the guy that went 0-2 against Michigan.

Hopefully all the draft-niks are right and the Lions won't go after a QB this season. Although I don't think he'd survive an interview with the Lions. There's no grit there.

Kyle McCord is very good. But he has a different style than Stroud. Ohio St still will be very good .It will be fun if it's snowing for The Game.
