CFP (8 team format is right around the corner)

Submitted by LakeWylieWolverine on

The calls and or groans for an 8 team CFP are only getting louder and more frequent. Some even want a 12 or 16 team format. I am thinking that starting in 2019 we will see at least an 8 team CFP. Here's to our coach, Jim Harbaugh, and the team breaking out in 2018 and regaining some lost luster on the national stage.

The Outback Bowl was an extremely bitter pill for me, as well as others, I am certain

To my fellow Michigan alums, fans living in the state of Michigan, hang tough. I know the heckling and smart a$$ fans. I lived in Columbus, Ohio for 25 year (1990 to 2015). It was unbearable at times

We have the right coach, albeit one that will have to make some adjustments and changes he did/does not want to make. Jim Harbaugh is the answer to awakening the sleeping giant. We are still slumbering but not for much longer. 2016 was a BIG missed opportunity. 2017 was almost as expected, though not admittedly by most of us.

This has my vote for worst post of the year. Of course it's early January, but I'm confident this one has some staying power.

I guess it's officially OT season. I don't really enjoy unsourced fanboy editorials. I wish, much like we use the "OT: " prefix to a subject line, that users would use an "UNSOURCED: " prefix to posts like these...and then recognize that as a negative heuristic and not bother posting it in the first place.

And, no, we aren't close to an 8-team playoff because some rando says so. Try to overcome a minimum burden of proof sometime. The Mgoboard is a center for content far moreso than a hotspot for stream-of-consciousness. Thanks.

I don't know why you would want to expand the playoff. This year there were only 3 teams who should have been in based on record, and winning their conference. The committee was fortunate that Alabama was a good pick for number four. We all know Alabama is good, they just had the misfortune of losing the one game that could have kept them out.

Who else would you put in a playoff? Ohio State, who got pantsed twice? Once by Iowa? USC, who got smoked by Notre Dame, who got smoked by Miami? UCF, who scheduled no one in their non-conference slate?

Four is fine. In fact, it's better than fine. I don't even have much of an issue with an all SEC championship game this time around, as both teams earned their way in. (LSU vs Alabama Part 2 was a travesty).

more is not always better and this would really hinder the quality of the season and playoff. If it does to 8,I could see conferences ending conference championships. why bother with them? teams will only be hurt. I bet Wisconsin wishes they didn't have to play in the big championship.

If you look at the compelling reasons to expand this year, was it OSU, UCF?  I'm not sure that UCF was worthy of a spot in an 8-team playoff, considering their weak schedule, but that would qualify as some of the "calls or groans" for an expansion this year.

Obviously, I don't like the SEC final, but it is what it is, I still prefer the 4-team...for now.

MGoPoints are worth 2.16 cents a piece according to The Points Guy and can be converted to American Airlines Miles on a 1:1 basis. Not only that but the Chase MGoBlog Premier Visa is currently offering a 90,000 MGoBlog point signup bonus (got it!).  If you guys wouldn't mind upvoting this 10,000 times I will have the 100,000 points I need to fly the whole family to Maui.

Also how do I delete a post?

Bitcoin is not a transfer partner for the Chase MGoBlog Reserve Visa however you can use the card to purchase Bitcoin at 3X (5X for dining & pump, 4X on nights & flights).  In addition, the 90,000 MGoPoints you get with the signup bonus will give you instant Elite status with Hyatt & Marriott as well Diamond status on all other B1G fan sites & message boards.

When I see people talk down the value of MGoPoints I just shake my head.

... but what have you been doing for the past two weeks?  Even if you've only been casually paying attention, you should know that most MGoBlog members don't care about random opinions, especially as the basis for a new thread.

Come on, man...most of these guys have been here doing this for 4, 5, 6 years and are pretty connected to what is going on with all things Michigan.  New threads should only be created by boots like us, when we have something of value to share, information that has not already been posted, but has value and comes from a reputable source.

I didn't down vote, but I would suggest maybe you go into listening mode for a bit.  It doesn't take long to understand how things work and what really helps to keep the Blog pretty clean and a valuable resource for all of us.

I think they should have the option of assessing every year how many teams are good enough to have a shot  . Up to 8  .

So one year it could be 5 teams, another 6 , maybe another 8 . Maybe even some years there would be only 2 or 3  . If they have odd teams just award a bye to the number 1 seed .   Unfortunately I think money being involved would mean it gets set at 8 , so more games would mean more money to be had .
