That's easy to answer (for…

That's easy to answer (for me). I'm a fan of the Michigan team, and players pursuing their own selfish interests doesn't help the team. This is always going to be a source of tension in pro sports (which college football has become)--what's best for the players is not best for the fans, and vice versa. I want to see guys play four years at the same place and put the team first. The players want to get paid and leave for the NFL (and more dollars) ASAP.

I transitioned from skiing…

I transitioned from skiing to snowboarding in my 50s . . .  it can be done. The problem with skiing for some people (like me) is that ski boots are really uncomfortable--so much so that it pretty much killed the joy. In contrast, snowboard boots are so much nicer and I can pretty much snowboard for hours without even loosening the laces.

All the advice you've gotten in here is good. I'll just add a couple of things:

1) Buy these and wear them: https://www.amazon.com/Hillbilly-protective-gear-2704-Pad-Impact/dp/B002UHXY8G. I know they look stupid (do these make my ass look large? Yes!) but they will absolutely keep you from destroying your coccyx, which is one of the major injuries suffered by beginners.

2) Practice balancing with your front foot strapped in and your back foot just sitting on the board . . . that's how you'll exit a lift and not falling every single time you disembark will make your day a lot more fun.

3) Unlike skiing, be conservative about increasing the difficulty level as you improve. Jumping into slopes much steeper than you're able to navigate will probably lead to excess speed and spectacular, painful falls. If the only way you can descend the mountain is by skidding on your heels, the run is too hard for you. You're not really snowboarding and you're ruining the snow for everyone else. It's much more fun to carve gentle linked turns on a bunny hill than skid your way down a steep run too terrified to make a turn.

Exactly. Like there's a…

Exactly. Like there's a right and a wrong way to run the bases after you hit a home run. smh

And why not? If the fans…

And why not? If the fans lose interest, the money cannon stops. Sometimes what's best for the players (unlimited free agency) is not best for the fans (and vice versa!). Would my love for football remain if every team's roster changes every year? Probably not. Which means I'll watch less TV, buy less merch, spend less time at the bar watching my team play . . . and all those things translate to less revenue for the sport.

because it's in Mississippi?…

because it's in Mississippi? duh.

Didn’t he throw a perfectly…

Didn’t he throw a perfectly thrown ball in the spring game? So it’s not like there is zero evidence that he can throw.

Seems like a very different…

Seems like a very different formula to win at Alabama compared to Washington. National recruiting, interest from every 5* . . . not that he couldn't do it, but it will be very different from what he's been doing. It seemed his Washington team had a lot of that Michigan culture going for it, and I don't know how you can create that at Alabama.

Seriously, the twitter…

Seriously, the twitter generation is really sad if they can't read a couple of paragraphs.

Oh, RCMB is just burning… Oh, RCMB is just burning down! It's glorious.

I really don't like the …

I really don't like the "cheating" narrative Sam was pushing. Cheating isn't illegal; everyone does it. The actual advantages of in-person advance scouting through grainy iphone footage is minimal, probably nothing at all--certainly nothing compared to having signals handed to you by other football staffs, which Michigan has shown actually occurred.

PSU, wow. It seems they're a…

PSU, wow. It seems they're a lot better than they thought they were.

Upvoted for correctly using …

Upvoted for correctly using “biased” instead of “bias”.  C’mon guys, it’s not that hard!

Actually, I think he made…

Actually, I think he made the point (but didn't emphasize it) that it's not the exact same thing. What OSU, Purdue, and Rutgers did was worse--they undoubtedly involved coaches in the advance scouting, while at Michigan it was just a rogue low-level staffer.

This seems like the kind of…

This seems like the kind of game where Purdue will blitz, JJ will escape, and then JJ will feast on 1v1 coverage. Look for a lot of scramble-drill big plays.

The faux outrage is just…

The faux outrage is just hilarious. It's like everyone thinks that sign-stealing is illegal, so for the first time they're going to have to take countermeasures.

Hey dumbass, sign-stealing is legal. If this is the first time you're thinking about how to mitigate it then you're as much of a horse$@t coach as Mel Tucker.

Negged because it's a stupid…

Negged because it's a stupid quesiton. OP clearly acknowledged he played great with a club, but if you are seriously wondering if he would play better without one you don't know anything about football.

More than four hours, I…

More than four hours, I guess you're supposed to seek medical attention.

Eh, maybe. I'm not sure.

Eh, maybe. I'm not sure.

What I am sure is that there are many countries more democratic than the US (link), which doesn't sit well with me. I prefer democracy.

Still, it's our birthday and I intend to celebrate with good friends, good food, some wine, and watch some fireworks. Happy birthday everyone.

Not to be that guy, but the…

Not to be that guy, but the OP was political. Pretty tame political, but political all the same. The 4th of July gives us all an opportunity to contemplate our nation, warts and all.

Preferences can't be wrong (…

Preferences can't be wrong ("I like redheads") but opinions certainly can be ("global warming is a hoax"). People misuse the terms all the time.

Neg me if you want, but a guy who didn't want to fight for a position at PSU doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would fit in well at Michigan if he doesn't win a starting job.

Yeah, I hate it too. If you…

Yeah, I hate it too. If you want to shorten the game, do the right thing: CUT DOWN ON THE FUCKING TV TIMEOUTS. They do nothing but disrupt the continuity of the game.

LOlL and I missed it entirely. Well done!

Ugh. The “twosideism” here…

Ugh. The “twosideism” here is strong. The NYT May have a liberal bias, but it’s serious journalism. The NY Post is just propaganda. Substitute WSJ and you have a good point.

But “when was the Civil War?…

But “when was the Civil War?” is not a question that requires critical thinking to answer. Being skeptical about claims that it was about “State’s Rights” and not slavery is a much better example.

Yup, which is why I don't…

Yup, which is why I don't follow college basketball anymore. Yeah, I know this thread, but I thought I'd point out that there's a cost to that attitude and I'm probably not alone.

I'm sure my interest isn't missed, but I don't care.

I honestly don't think…

I honestly don't think people are mad. They're frustrated by the crap that was coming out of his camp, reported by supposed insiders, that said education and track were very important to him and would guide his decision--neither of which turned out to be true. So the lesson learned is that we should take these "insider reports" with a giant grain of salt, because they're based on nothing but smoke and hope.

MgoBlog is going to have to change the boilerplate in the section "PREDICTION BASED ON FLIMSY EVIDENCE" for Hello posts to something like this:

"Will probably redshirt and bulk up as a freshman and compete for a starting position in his sophomore year. If he doesn't earn a starting role by then, he will probably bail for the portal and try it somewhere else."

This is a case where the…

This is a case where the unconventional name "Storm" is infinitely better than the more common one, "Donald".

Wait--we can't bury it in a "snowflake" thread? What if we get too many threads?!?

No, that's just wrong. In…

No, that's just wrong. In baseball and basketball, you need to win the best of an odd number of games.

But they may not. If…

But they may not. If Michigan loses to OSU in a final game, have they really "decided it on the field"? I mean, a resounding decision on the field has already been made, and in any other support the winner of 1/2 wouldn't be called a champion.

This is the arrogance that…

This is the arrogance that leads to snowflake threads; you know, let's force everything into one bin because my god otherwise we're going to have SEVERAL different threads! Oh the horror!

Yup, and in most years The Game won't matter at all.

IMO, the two guys who were…

IMO, the two guys who were out yesterday, which it makes it more remarkable that Michigan was able to throttle OSU: Corum (offense) and Morris (defense). Though Sainristil is an awfully good choice too.

Obvious explanation is that…

Obvious explanation is that he's been playing hurt for several weeks and doesn't have the speed he did earlier in the season. I've noticed this on several of the long runs he's broken recently--he doesn't have the breakaway speed anymore. I don't think it's because it's just slower; the most likely explanation is that he's nursing a small injury and it's affecting his speed. We've seen him limping around a couple of times during the past few games.

The guy has the heart of a lion. If he has an injury, he's not going to let on.

I don't think the puking…

I don't think the puking meant anything. But, you're right about him nursing nagging injuries for the last few weeks. Him running out of bounds was a bad sign.

Missing Morris really hurts

It'll piss me off to no end if Michigan once again takes 4 minutes to get close enough to try a 50-yard field goal
