CBS Sports- Michigan vs Texas, Washington vs FSU
247Sports has Michigan vs FSU, Washington vs Texss
Obviously, I understand why some don't trust the committee but the SEC is out.
December 3rd, 2023 at 11:11 AM ^
I bet Auburn does.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:43 AM ^
SEC should be out. I will laugh so hard.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:30 AM ^
I mean Texas will be in the SEC next year so are they really?
December 3rd, 2023 at 6:50 AM ^
Yes, the SEC is out because the Texas $hare $tay$ in the Big 12. It's all about the money.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:47 AM ^
I have a very hard time believing that Michigan is going to choose the Sugar Bowl against Texas (or any team) as CBS is projecting. From a historical perspective that makes absolutely no sense and from a geography perspective that also makes absolutely no sense as Texas would strongly prefer to go there.
EDIT: Both predictions pick Sugar Bowl.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:49 AM ^
Yeah, if Michigan is the #1 seed I have to assume they pick the Rose Bowl unless they have some reason to think Washington would be the #4, which seems absurd.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:58 AM ^
The committee actually selects the locations it is not up to the teams this is a huge misconception . Karsh actually went to the source to get answers on this and the cfpc tries to put the #1 seed in the location it feels it would prefer but the school actually had no say
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:24 AM ^
So sugar bowl then. Welp fuck me and my rose bowl tickets.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:55 AM ^
Who are these 2 guys and what makes them credible? The entire Fox Big Noon crew had FSU out both as “how they’d vote “ and there guess as to how it would end up. Seems like everyone on espn was saying the same thing almost to the point of immediate media campaigning to keep FSU out. Fox actually hav a graphic of the resumes of Texas, Georgia and FSU and discussed the 3 teams as if that was the debate because Bama is already in and there conclusion was sense Texas beat Bama Texas would be the 4th team but probably ranked 3rd. I kid u not they made this argument. Bama should be a sure thing but Texas should be in front of them but less a sure thing.
Granted this could all be the old setting a narrative to create a greater controversy after. You can already see Pete and espn claiming a playoff without the SEC doesn’t crown a real champ put penis has already claimed he wouldn’t recognize UM as champs
The media went on full blitz to keep fsu out as soon as these 2 late games ended. What actually happens is anyones guess but your assertion based on 2 guys going against the grain seems odd.
Personally I’m conflicted . FSU has an absolutely elite defense when motivated. NFL wr’s , good oline and good rb. Would also get there 2nd string qb back for playoffs. I hate the idea of leaving out a team due to injury especially an undefeated acc champ with an out of conference win over LSU to boot. But if I’m being honest I also think Texas and Bama are better than FSU and I mite even feel that way if Travis was healthy.
My guess is the Travis injury gives the committee an out and they will take it because choosing between Bama and Texas for a last spot is a nightmare.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:57 AM ^
NCAA.com also predicting 1.Michigan 2.Washington 3.FSU 4.Texas
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:59 AM ^
I hope that’s what happens but I will believe when I see it. SEC pays the bills.
Also the committee knows this is the last time they have to make actual decisions so they won’t give AF and they will just insert Bama
Burn it all down.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:34 AM ^
Looking at TV revenue, it seems B1G is paying the bills. If CFP committee is owned by ESPN, it would make sense
December 3rd, 2023 at 2:01 AM ^
Ever since Urban Meyer threw his unholy fit in 2006 about the SEC and leapfrogged a #2 Michigan I personally will celebrate any time the SEC is left out of anything.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:59 AM ^
Maybe swap FSU and Texas, and I’m on board
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:02 AM ^
That works for me. If Michigan is 1 they should get the worse team out of the 3 teams left.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:09 AM ^
Who even is that ? Idk. I kind of feel like we best matchup with Washington as they feel like the one team we could potentially really enforce the run game on. Bama really feels like a bad matchup although the the D could tear up Bama’s qb if he’s having one of his off days I feel like there D is essentially Penn State with more beef and better lbers. There corners can man up our wt’s without help and there speed on the edges will be a nightmare. Much of the same with FSU although I feel much more confident UM’s D would dominant that matchup.
December 3rd, 2023 at 9:41 AM ^
Yeah, i think if FSU hangs their hat on their defense, that's a tougher matchup than Washington trying to outpace us on offense. Nobody is breaking our defense, but I think with some bad luck our offense could be slowed down a bit.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:02 AM ^
Whatever happens, we have 2 top 5 teams and 4 top 10 teams on the schedule next year. Crazy.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:03 AM ^
I’d rather see Michigan play Texas than FSU.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:05 AM ^
The four best and deserving teams are UW, UM, UT, and Bama. In that order.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:29 AM ^
Anyone wondering why when the loss happens is of the utmost importance?
Bama had an embarrassing loss
Georgia, texas, and even OSU had tough losses
texas beat bama pretty convincingly at bama
FSU lost to nobody and shared with Bama their second best win being LSU
December 3rd, 2023 at 2:04 AM ^
Why deserving for Alabama? Never mind the rest.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:06 AM ^
Wow. I will be shocked if Texas and Bama dont make the CFP, and FSU does.
Not buying it.
My prediction:
Michigan #1
UW #2
Texas #3
Bama #4
The above sucks. The #1 seed should have the easiest opponent, that's why you want the #1 seed. Bama is not the easiest opponent in the semi-finals. UM might want Washington to pass UM, then UM gets Texas in the semi-finals.
#GoBlue
#Bet
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:32 AM ^
If FSU makes it, so will one of either Texas or Bama. And it should be Texas, since they won head to head.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:33 AM ^
Here is why and even this board is saying it
”Bama looks like the best team beating georgia like they did”
”ok lets move them to second place”
”whoa whoa not too much lets just move them to 4th just above the undefeated ACC champs that were number 4 just a few hours ago”
”wait does that mean they play Michigan?”
”yes”
”Bet!”
December 3rd, 2023 at 9:43 AM ^
Texas cant be less scary than Alabama if Texas went to Alabama and kicked their butts!
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:06 AM ^
I have a hard time believing that Michigan would choose the Sugar Bowl for a matchup with either Texas or FSU.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:11 AM ^
See my other post. It’s not Michigans choice
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:14 AM ^
Is that true? I remember hearing about how Saban sent his team to DFW when they were the number one seed so that they wouldn't be at the beach a couple of years ago.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:07 AM ^
Why the hell would Michigan want to play Texas in New Orleans, driving distance from their state, over the Rose Bowl? That location alone doesn't give credence to these projections.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:10 AM ^
Exactly. What is the point of being the #1 team if you have to play a quasi road game in the semifinals?
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:17 AM ^
If Warde lets us get put in New Orleans he should be fired.
There also is the tradition of the Rose obviously, plus the fact that of any of these schools, U of M has by far the biggest West Coast alumni base (our alums are arguably the most nationally distributed of any non-Ivy school). The Rose is every advantage to us, except maybe against Washington, but Washington won't be 4.
December 3rd, 2023 at 7:33 AM ^
Michigan getting slotted into the Sugar Bowl would be totally on brand for Warde.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:09 AM ^
I hope the SEC conference is out! The committee has left the B1G and PAC champions out before. Time for the SEC to be skipped.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:12 AM ^
I'm hoping for
1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Texas
4. FSU
What I expect
1. Michigan
2 Washington
3. Texas
4. Alabama.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:34 AM ^
Same here. They're already justifying it as they keep saying "the best four teams."
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:34 AM ^
Agree with both of those. But what it should be is:
1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. FSU
4. Texas
Not what I'm hoping for, or what I expect, or what will happen, but what it should be.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:25 AM ^
I never think these decisions occur in a vacuum ---- whoever the "5th team" is has downstream impacts on the other NYD6 Bowls, and of course, ESPN broadcasts these games and they have a BIG vested interest in match-ups.
If Florida State is the "5th team", that sets up a FSU vs Georgia Orange Bowl. Which would get some big ratings in its 4 PM Saturday slot --- and, importantly, better ratings then any Orange Bowl involving Louisville (the Cardinals didn't look the part of a NYD6 team at all tonight).
Tht Orange Bowl also precedes the Cowboys/Lions game, a huge match-up which is also on ESPN and in-line to get ESPN's highest NFL rating of the regular season. Various suits at ESPN are likely salivating at the potential total number of eyeballs on Saturday the 30th with a GA/FSU then Cowboys/Lions DH.
Anyway, that's a long way of saying: I'm guessing FSU gets left out. For as much as we call it a College Football "Playoff" --- it really is a College Football "Invitational." And there are various parties who would prefer Alabama and Texas get invited over Florida State.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:36 AM ^
“Hey Warde watch your CFP playoff rankings. We need good matchups for the secondary bowl games after the lions cowboys game”
Warde-
”What in the actual fuck are you talking about?”
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:27 AM ^
I want to believe..
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:27 AM ^
ESPN (lol) has:
- Michigan
- Washington
- Texas
- Alabama
- Georgia
- FSU (WTFFFFF)
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:35 AM ^
That's their SEC bias showing. No way the committee drops FSU 3 spots for winning a conference championship.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:30 AM ^
Vegas has Bama and Georgia out.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:34 AM ^
Edit. Its too late I cant read.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:35 AM ^
If "most deserving" is not a consideration, why is the SEC considered deserving of an automatic spot in the playoff?
They may have been great in the past, but the SEC was not very good this year.
From next year, they will have multiple teams in the field every year.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:38 AM ^
I said this to numerous friends tonight via text, and a few in person tonight.
this is the correct ranking. TX beat Bama in Tuscaloosa and Bama beat UGA. unfortunately TX and UGA can’t play but ….
1. M
2. W
3. FSU
4. TX
5. Bama
6. OSU
7. UGA
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:39 AM ^
Technically, the SEC does have a team in the CFP. Congrats Texas.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:58 AM ^
The playoff games are in 2024
Texas joins the SEC in 2024
You are correct good sir!
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:38 AM ^
It's a bizarre world when an undefeated P5 conference champion is left out in the cold. FSU and Texas should 100% be in and Alabama/Georgia should be in NY6 bowls. Alabama should have two losses. And Georgia couldn't beat the team that should have two losses. I don't see the issue here.
