Best Brisket In Michigan

Submitted by Bluenin on
Spent some time in Texas with the In-Laws and the smoked brisket is insanely good down there!! Just wondering if anyone has had any luck finding great brisket up here in Michigan??

They're pretty good. My wife likes all the hip little places like El Cunado, Luna, the donkey and city built brewing, but I don't have a man bun and feel like I'm supposed to eat with a pinky sticking out. I work with a whole bunch of Latinos and every once in a while I get invited to a Quincenera or a wedding or something and I get their mama's REAL Mexican food... THAT'S the stuff I like.

For Ann Arbor BBQ, go to Ricewood in the summer. It's a small food truck that's located down Packard St just south of Stadium, I think it may move locations next year. Brisket would run out in less than an hour of opening nearly every day. It's closed now for the winter, but it's by far the best BBQ in the area.

This is a pretty generic answer, but I have always liked slow’s in Detroit. Not a fan of the one in Grand Rapids. Union Woodshop is also really good as previously mentioned.

I’m a fan of Homeboy BBQ in Flushing, MI. Some people love it, some hate it - always found it to be quite tasty and it’s about a 10 min drive. Appreciate reading the other suggestions - love me some brisket.

The best we had was at The Salt Lick in Spicewood TX, just outside of Austin! So delicious!! They had an all you can eat meat plate that included brisket, sausage, chicken and ribs! You can also bring your own cooler of beer to the place! My wife basically had to put me in a wheelbarrow to roll me out of there because I ate so much!

We had our pre-wedding party there for all the out-of-town guests way back when... we brought a keg and hung out for a few hours eating all-you-can eat, playing horse shoes and listening to music.  There is really no better place than the Salt Lick.

Best place I've found around SE Michigan NW Ohio. I have never been to Texas but have had good BBQ in other southern states. I love BBQ but most places around here come up short IMO.

I like Lockharts in Royal Oak, but it's local for me so maybe I like it by default.  It's where I always go for BBQ.  I make a really good pulled pork or ribs on my deck but I don't have much experience with beef so I usually order brisket when I go out.

Get an offset smoker. Burn seasoned oak at 225°. You want a thin blueish smoke, not a thick white plume, coming from the stack. Salt and heavy black pepper on the brisket. Cook until 195°. Let in rest. Slice properly. #1 tip I can give is don't complicate it. Keep is simple. Wood, fire, meat.
