10 Battles: Your Predictions...based on nothing.

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

Alright...the time has come. We're less than 2 weeks out, pick who you think wins the battle (for week 1 only, not the entire season).

This is not a question of who is your favorite - who do you think wins the fall camp battle to start week 1?

  1. QB - Morris or Rudock
  2. RB - Green, Smith, Isaac, or Johnson
  3. WR #2 - Chesson or Harris
  4. SLOT - Canteen or Perry
  5. TE #2 - Williams, Hill, or Bunting
  6. WDE - Charlton or Ojemudia
  7. SDE - Wormley or Charlton
  8. CB #2 - Clark, Lyons, or Stribling
  9. S #2 - Lyons, Wilson, Hill, or Thomas
  10. K - O'Neill, David, or Allen

Based on nothing - not who you like most or who you want to win the battle...who do you think wins each position battle?

Yeah New Kid! Try paying attention more and yapping less... Drake Johnson - when he's been healthy - has played the best RB since Toussaint's big year. And he's a Pioneer! You don't wanna mess with us! That being said, he's never stayed healthy for any significant stretch.
So I'll say most carries by RB in order: Green, Isaac, Higdon. Highest ypa: The Drake
In other battles - Rudock, Khalid Hill, Chesson (hopefully The Other Drake can finally play too, though), Canteen (though I think both Perry & B. Cole will see the field).
On D - everybody plays for the most part, right?! So instead I'll pick the standouts: Taco, Wormley, Shelton (OMG Pass Rush!), Jourdan, Delano & of course PEPPERS!!!
As Brian always says, Jarrod will continue to stand out by being boring and not standing out...

An undersized back with average speed and agility who can't block in the backfield who only played because the two Rbs ahead of him were injured isn't going to start. The only thing going for him is a good game against OSU, which puts him among the illustrious ranks of the likes of Devin Gardner and Al Borges. And just a tip; talking out your ass with "the best running back" line just reveals how little you know about football. When the Utah game rolls around and he's nowhere to be seen you can come back and find me okay?

I'm not sure how anyone who watches football can claim that anyone except Drake is the best back on the team.  Maybe you should actually watch the games.  Drake also performed well against Indiana and Maryland.  While not world beaters, they're significantly stronger competition than App State and Miami, against which Green and Smith did the majority of their damage.  Might be time for you to grow up kid.

The fact that you're using the "he only played because the top 2 RBs got hurt" argument, when it's been proven time and again how incompetent the previous coaching staff was, also shows how little you know.

on every name except one, Johnson. I don't think he'll be ready to start healthwise. However,  I think the starting back is less important as this will be a committee assignment with Green, Smith and company splitting time until someone emerges as the leading rusher.

You know, it used to be back when Michigan was QB -U that no running back played much unless he knew pass protection requirements for his positioin so well that he would be trusted enough to run on any series past first or second down. That was under Lloyd.

Even though Rudock is the more experienced guy with greater accuracy, Morris is the kind of qb Harbaugh craves because he is more mobile and has the big arm. Just saying because that was the kind of qb he started at SF in Alex Smith and Kaepernik. Smith is more Rudock and Kaepernik is more Morris.

I could live with either guy as the starter but would favor Rudock because he's a veteran with credentials and only needs to show what he's already done he will continue to deliver. Whereas with Morrs, every start is a debutante ball. He's got to prove to everyone he belongs and can move this team and win games.

From the little I do know:

1. Rudock

2. Smith

3. This one will be close, I will say Chesson because he's older and a solid blocker...but Harris is coming on and with way more upside. Could be 50/50 PT against Utah.

4. Perry

5. They all have different roles/skill sets and none of these guys are 3-down TE's yet. In terms of the TE who will see the 2nd most snaps I would say Hill if he is 100% healthy, Williams/Poggi if not. Bunting is coming along though. Hill has potential to be a nice H-back or 2nd FB with really nice hands and blocking.

6. Charlton

7. Wormley

8. Lyons

9. Hill - might be the best player on the team

10. Allen

Rudock is the right guy for the anaconda strategy: dominate on defense, run the ball consistently, throw off play action, keep the opposing offense off the field and wear down their defense.

Isaac will start and star.

Chesson's experience gives him the nod over a young, injury-prone burner in a ball control offense.

Also concur on the rest

If you didn't copy and paste the de facto template from the OP, and most of you didn't, you're both lazy and stupid. You created more work for yourself  by typing your post out instead of add/deleting from the template.

Drake proved last year he deserved a shot as the number one RB If he didn't blow out his knee last year he definitely would have been the favored to be the starter. He was the only RB who could read blocks, make the proper cut hit the hole and pickup positive yards. Green has to prove he can read blocking and break tackles. Smith has to prove he is explosive enough to be the number one RB.

I am seeing a lot more Smith picks than I would have thought. Not saying you are wrong but have I missed something coming out of practice? Any one care to elaborate more on why you picked him. I am Just more surprised by his name coming up.

QB: Morris RB: Smith but he and Isaac split snaps by years end Wr2: Harris will get majority at start and most if not all by years end. However, I still think Chesson finds a way on the field Slot: Perry TE2: Williams and Poggi for run blocking, with Poggi with the advantage. Pass I'll go with Hill. He looked like the real deal with the playing time he got last year. WDE: Ojemudia but with Marshall pushing for snaps by the end of the year SDE: Charleton, but only because I think Wormley moves inside for most of his snaps CB2: from what I've heard, I think it will be some rotation of Clark and Lyons with Lyons getting some snaps at safety S: I don't know I think they will have five secondary players (Peppers, Lyons, Hill, Clark, Wilson) that can play corner or safety. So I think a lot of these players will rotate positions frequently. K: David

Rudock - at least to start off with, because he's experienced and doesn't make mistakes. His ceiling is lower than Morris', but we don't need a QB to be a hero right now. Just protect the football. But if he struggles, I wouldn't be surprised to see Morris take over. Harbaugh isn't opposed to switching QBs mid-season.
-Isaac - the complete package, but I believe he'll ultimately separate himself from the pack. The season will start off by committee in my opinion. Would not be surprised to see Johnson pick up a few carries as well. He played great against OSU, and until he went down, OSU didn't have much of an answer for him.
-If Harris can stay healthy, I'd give him the nod, but for now, I take Chesson until Harris proves he can stay healthy.
-Freddy Footwork Canteen
-Bunting - ceiling is really high, and Harbaugh knows him some tight ends.
-Charlton, but both will play significant amount of snaps
-Lyons
-Wilson - has the experience and has played well in the past overall, but I'm really hoping Dymonte Thomas can finally break through. Still can't believe Hoke snatched him out of Ohio, and he seemed like he was going to be the real f-ing deal when he got here.
-Whichever one the Aussie is.

  1. QB - Rudock.  I would prefer that Shane wins, because he has the higher upside, but I think Rudock is the safe play on the road in an important (from a tone-setting standpoint) game
  2. RB - Green.  He's the most physically gifted and hopefully some real coaching will improve his ability to hit the open holes.
  3. WR #2 - Chesson.  If this were about, say, the start of October, I would probably think Harris has a shot.  I just don't see a RS FR who hasn't played since Kang was in the White House winning the job.  Don't blame me though, I voted for Kodos.
  4. SLOT - Canteen.  Jungle Beats for life.
  5. TE #2 - Hill.  I'd be fine with Bunting too, because I think he would make the offense more dynamic, just so long as it isn't Williams.
  6. WDE - Charlton.  Has the chops to be our best pass rusher if he can put it together.
  7. SDE - Wormley.  Because Charlton is wreaking havoc from the WDE spot.
  8. CB #2 - Lyons.  Brian and Ace didn't seem too fond of the Clark move, and I like Lyons over Stribling becaue of physicality.
  9. S #2 - Wilson.  A boring safety is a good safety.
  10. K - David.  Has there even been talk of O'Neill at K?  When did I miss that? Assuming whoever gets the job truly earned it, I'd love the idea of having a reliable K for the next four years.
