10 Battles: Your Predictions...based on nothing.

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

Alright...the time has come. We're less than 2 weeks out, pick who you think wins the battle (for week 1 only, not the entire season).

This is not a question of who is your favorite - who do you think wins the fall camp battle to start week 1?

  1. QB - Morris or Rudock
  2. RB - Green, Smith, Isaac, or Johnson
  3. WR #2 - Chesson or Harris
  4. SLOT - Canteen or Perry
  5. TE #2 - Williams, Hill, or Bunting
  6. WDE - Charlton or Ojemudia
  7. SDE - Wormley or Charlton
  8. CB #2 - Clark, Lyons, or Stribling
  9. S #2 - Lyons, Wilson, Hill, or Thomas
  10. K - O'Neill, David, or Allen

Based on nothing - not who you like most or who you want to win the battle...who do you think wins each position battle?

Rudock Smith Chesson Perry Hill Mario Wormley Lyons Wilson David The team is more dangerous if some of the more explosive guys - Isaac, Canteen, Harris, Clark, Dymonte, Delano - put it together and earn starting roles, but JH will play the best 22 guys to win immediately and always.

These are a great way to pass the time on a day and a half long train ride. Thanks for these.

QB - Morris or Rudock
I don't think there will be a winner to start the season and I don't think either will fully separate himself enough to be considered the full time QB during the season. Just a gut feeling.

RB - Green, Smith, Isaac, or Johnson
See above. Green, Smith, and Isaac split carries fairly evenly for most of the season with Johnson once again fighting injuries. Although I do think that Isaac may separate himself toward the end of the season.

WR #2 - Chesson or Harris
Chesson. I don't even think Harris will crack the top two deep by the end of the season. I'm worried he is headed the direction of Antonio Bass. Lots of potential, but injuries keep him down.

SLOT - Canteen or Perry
Canteen. Give Perry another year.

TE #2 - Williams, Hill, or Bunting
Bunting. I know he reportedly blocks about as well as freshman Funchess, but I just can't see Harbaugh leaving a mismatch like that on the bench. However, for goal line sets not on our own 20 I think Williams is more likely.

WDE - Charlton or Ojemudia
Wait, I thought they were playing opposite end positions this year. Are they competing for playing time? I think the more interesting question is Ojemudia or Marshall. I would still give the edge to Mario but I think Marshall comes on strong later in the year.

SDE - Wormley or Charlton
Taco. Should be a big year for him.

CB #2 - Clark, Lyons, or Stribling
Lyons. Two years ago I thought Lewis and Stribling were going to be top notch guys for four years when QBs weren't making perfect throws. Then Stribling kind of disappeared last year which made me sad (it's hard to get much run out of the #8 jersey this past decade). I think Lyons sets in comfortably this season and Stribling steps up his senior year.

S #2 - Lyons, Wilson, Hill, or Thomas
Wilson. As much as I would love to see the combined potential of Peppers and Thomas playing safety together I'm doubting that will happen. Wilson is solid and will play. I found myself calling him Jamar Adams several times last year, and I don't consider that a bad thing.

K - O'Neill, David, or Allen
Ha! Funny.

1. Rudock

2. Green

3. Harris (hope he can finish the season)

4. Canteen

5. Hill or Winovich

6. Charlton

7. Wormley

8. Clark

9. Hill

10. David

In most cases I'm just going with the person who was in front or seemed best at the end of last season, even though that probably holds less water with a new coaching staff. Rudock was better than Shane last year, Green the top back before his injury Canteen advantaged over a high school player, Wornley and Charlton getting the most snaps (that's my sense, anyway).

For #2 TE it depends on whether you mean H-back or a TE lining up on the line of scrimmage, because I expect Harbaugh will use both and they'll be different people. Hill's a returning starter at H-back, though Shallman will push him. For an inline TE, I think they're trying to replace Williams, and I'm guessing Winovich can catch better than Poggi and block better than Bunting.

Wilson an option for #2 safety? I assume he'll be the first safety. I guess you're counting Peppers as #1, but he's going to play nickel. Hill's getting buzz at safety as is Clark at CB, and I buy it. For kicker I'm going with the highly rated recruit.
