As Sam hinted earlier today the Wolverines have added more help in the trenches, pulling 6’5”/280 2019 offensive lineman prospect Jack Stewart out of Don Brown country:

Stewart got his Michigan offer during the big recruiting weekend a few weeks ago. He had offers from BC, Texas A&M, Zona, and just recently picked up a TCU offer after visiting the two Texas schools last week. Notre Dame was also fishing around. He’s a three star to 247, an unranked 2-star to Rivals, and doesn’t exist on ESPN because Connecticut offensive lineman.

More informative update cometh.

He has great speed and strength. Will have plenty of time to fill out his frame even more and refine the technicalities of the position. Solid get for Michigan

In terms of this Stewart, he looks like a solid pick up on his film.

Edit: Damn, that didn't work. I was trying to input an image. Sorry everyone. I'm new here...

Congratulations on a wise, wise choice. Think he'll be good for us. Brown knows the area well and the school obviously is among the best in that state seeing it sent his fellow OL, Conley to BC and the QB opted for ND. That's solid for any school, real big for a public school in CT.

His h.s. coach says guard but he definitely has the frame and versatility to help out at T as well. A pretty solid get for the good guys.

his high school program is consistently tops in the state of CT. Coach Lou is a legend in the Northeast and sends a lot of kids to BC and Harvard. New Canaan H.S. is arch rivals with Darien H.S, which is where Stueber played ... and likely directly against Stewart. Kid is solid on academics like Stueber and also a late bloomer. By his 2nd year in the program under Herbert he will be a stud and ready to compete for a spot at OG or RT.

I can fall victim to the stargazing at times, but...

1) From a small state football wise so as Seth said, recruiting scouts sometimes don’t get there.

2) OL can be hard to project, and

3) There are certainly some lower ranked kids that have turned OT quite well for us. IIRC for example Sean McKeown wasn’t a high rated kid and he’s one of our best TEs.

5) If Warriner was involved with wanting this guy, I’m all in.

6). When it comes to OL, until we know we have a solid OL, I’m always happy to see more bullets in the chamber. Throw them all into a pile & eventually 5 really great prospects are going to pan out for us.

Go Blue!

This 2019 OL class in general for the country is not too strong. This is going to be a class where teams are gonna pick up these lower ranked studs like this. Stewart’s film is really, really solid so I like this pick up a ton. Our class is looking really strong right now.

Again, don’t be too worried about stars because 2020’s OL class is looking real strong and we look to be leading for 3 top25 lineman as well.

It's assumed that we lead for Hinton because his brother is committed.  He has said multiple times that he doesn't have a leader and that where his brother goes doesn't necessarily have an impact on him.

It's a long way until signing day and the older Hinton isn't a guarantee.  He is a 5-star from the south, its going to be a battle until the end.

i remember all the 2019 will be Michigan's best ever class. now it's down across the board for everyone? 2020 is already so much more potential. stop. enough. 2019 will be as awesome as previously expected. this year is going to be awesome. 14-1 and a big ten title, playoff appearance, national title. 2018 is now. "next year" is finally this year.

there are 10 four stars in the state of Michigan and three of the are OL but NONE are committed to Michigan.

I'm not star obsessed and don't mind taking a flyer/three star with high upside, especially on the OL where development is just about everything, so I like this pickup on the surface.

But you'd rather take those kind of guys from your own region if you can't get the high rated national guys because if you don't get them, teams you play will get them (as MSU and Wisconson are doing with guys in MI).

That's what's been such a head scratcher for me.  How do we not have a state of MI commit yet?!

if he hits the road to the Opening and Rivals events, he will get those star ratings higher.  He is also a top state wrestler - has really good hand strength and footwork.  At the heavyweight division, he was 20-6 last year as a junior.  This year local media is prediciting he will be the state's #1 heavyweight.  He wrestles at 270 and played football at 285.  Under Herbert, he will be a solid 310 interior lineman after a redshirt year plus two off-season conditioning cycles.  Smart kid who will pick up the offense quickly and take well to Warinner's technique development.

I honestly thought the first picture of him on this post was Bredeson. Give this kid a redshirt to bulk up a little more, looks like a solid diamond in the rough type pick up.

Now take a redshirt and get to the training table and weight room over and over and over again, then emerge big enough and strong enough to earn the nickname "Beef" Stewart!

with a mean-streak so big that he'll pancake one of his own receivers if they get in the way of a block (@ 2:14).

You can't teach that...

The Texas A&M offer is encouraging.  Jim Turner has been pretty great at unearthing and developing elite college tackles (Luke Joeckel and Cedric Ogbuehi come to mind).  He's also a BC guy with deep NE roots, so I imagine he's a little salty to see Stewart heading elsewhere.

I'm just curious as to why we can't pull very many oline recruits from Wiscy. Any would be good because it seems they almost always end up in the NFL.

for all the star gazers (sometimes myself included).... If this young man is legit, he will stay in this class. if not, he will get nudged out. this class is going to finish very, very strong. Michigan is going to have a fantastic year and therefore a major upgrade in recruits will come in (compared to 2018). if the staff really thinks he is a diamond in the rough, he'll stay in this class. if not, he'll lose his spot to a higher recruit. let's hope he makes it and turns into the next great one.
