MGoRoundtable Post?
I listened to the beginning of the MGoRoundtable yesterday on WTKA, but was unable to stay with the broadcast for numerous reasons. However, what I heard of the astonishingly solo Craig Ross’s opening salvo was not only an affront to the strictures and conventions of radio broadcasting, but may have struck a fatal blow to the very concept of entertainment itself.
How many listeners not only turned their dial, but solemnly disavowed any future listening to WTKA? Will this be the swan song of the MGoRoundtable? Will Sam ever be able to financially recover? Has the recording not been posted to the main page because Seth is across the pond or because its content, surmisedly a nearly 60-minute onslaught of Craig bloviating unmolested by sense of decency or contributions from other panelists, is being relegated to uncreation? These are the questions.

I believe Ernis is a regular listener of the MGoRoundTable on the radio, but missed it yesterday and then was further saddened when the usual recap/link wasn't posted to MGoBlog following the show's airing. In the interest of comedy, Ernis then fabricated a reason for why it may be late, involving Craig Ross losing his shit on the airwaves in the early segment, but ultimately I think the true reason is, as also mentioned, Seth is in Europe.
Basically: "Bitch, where's my fucking podcast?"
March 29th, 2024 at 11:32 AM ^
Ernis: "The show sucked, and it's not even linked on the main page!"
He's just doing Woody Allen's bit*:
"The food is terrible. And the portions are so small!"
*Probably not Woody Allen's bit, but it was in Annie Hall. I think it was probably a vaudeville one-liner or something.

I thought Woody Allen's bit was sleeping with his daughter
March 29th, 2024 at 11:42 AM ^
Not remotely accurate. But the situation to which you are referring is incredibly creepy and uncomfortable. Was he a predator when she was a child? Guess it depends who you ask. AFAIK that is Mia's belief. Not sure where else that has been backed up but tbh I haven't investigated it.

Soon-Yi Previn ("Previn") was one of several adopted daughters from Farrow's prior marriage to Andre Previn.
Allen and Mia Farrow met in 1979 and began a relationship in 1980. Farrow starred in 13 of Allen's films from 1982 to 1992. Throughout the relationship they lived in separate apartments on opposite sides of Central Park in Manhattan. Farrow had seven children when they met: three biological sons from her marriage to composer André Previn, three adopted girls (two Vietnamese and one South Korean, Soon-Yi Previn), and an adopted South Korean boy, Moses Farrow. It is acknowledged that at no time was Allen a stepfather to Previn.
Previn and Allen became intimate in 1992 and have been married since 1997 - they have two adopted children. To date, they currently live in Manhattan. The marriage is, reportedly, a very strong one.
Woody is a brilliant filmmaker - who makes hugely questionable partnering choices.

I haven't seen a Woody Allen movie since I saw Sleeper on Channel 50 when I was a kid.
I don't feel like my life is any poorer for this.
Broadway Danny Rose was an excellent story. Both sad and heart warming. Also, Crimes and Misdemeanors was really good. Martin Landau and the great Jerry Orbach, among others.

*very* old joke joke from various Borscht Belt standup comics.

Oh thank god, this was bugging me for a while. I couldn't remember Woody Allen's last name for the last few days and I would forget about it before I had a chance to look it up. Sure enough, I would be driving or without my phone each time it popped back into my head.
March 29th, 2024 at 12:31 PM ^
As a young kid (late 1980s), I would get Woody Allen and Woody Hayes confused whenever people would mention either. This, of course, led to several hilarious mix-ups about various news stories that included either name.
This has nothing to do with anything, but neither did the OP.
I had the same issue with Jack Nicholson and Jack Nicklaus as my parents watched golf constantly.

CR opened with how his girlfriend dumped him when he was 18 by quoting Oscar Wilde. That tracks. Especially since Oscar was in his prime when CR was in high school, I assume.

To quote Oscar Wilde, "It's not you, it's me, Craig"

Been a slow board lately. Time for some shitposting.
BTW. I enjoyed the pod.

I listened to the YouTube recording of the roundtable and enjoyed it.

Craig is great and he self deprecates though without weirdo hate posts like this.
His one on one segments with Sam during Covid were wonderful and I wish they had found a way to continue them after they brought the full round table back

Craig was directly responsible for the Spanish Inquisition, the fall of Constantinople in 1453 and going way back, the defeat of the Danes at Ashdown in 871. It's all Craig's fault. He's probably also on the hook for the resurgence of the Michigan State hockey program, Caleb Downs transferring to Ohio State and the continued existence of Notre Dame as a functional entity.
(I don't speak for OP but I don't think it was intended to be a hate post).

FTR I love Craig and if you think this is a hate post, consider what would compel Craig to opportunistically troll the listening audience with such a superlatively sesquipedalian, painstakingly paced, yet self-deprecating tangent, and consider if maybe someone might be compelled to play along by jumping on board the proverbial ride, to use the parlance of our times.

Ernis, you're not funny or clever. I mean it is funny how clever you think you are, but we are laughing at you, not with you.
March 29th, 2024 at 12:27 PM ^
I know we like to mock and poke fun around here, but this one feels a little mean-spirited.
It’s as funny and clever as I was going for, which isn’t saying much. But believe it or not, I wasn’t expecting to impress any of the grumps in the audience.
There will be a time when people will be hyper sensitive to people "age" shaming and 2030 MGOBLOGGERS will be referencing the "cringe" of how the board treated Craig and his age. Dont hate the messenger you know its coming.
Meh, old people have legal protection from discrimination. Already more than young people get. They already tried to call boomer a slur and that went nowhere.

Have you ever seen Craig & Jesus together? Hmmmn...
They said Jesus ascended to heaven. What they didn't specify was that he went to Ann Arbor.

I'm assuming this post is in jest, but I love Craig Ross's meandering stories and incredible sense of Michigan basketball history. When he randomly mentioned where Ricky Green had gone to school before Michigan I was impressed, but not surprised. And if you're going to get dumped having your girlfriend quote Oscar Wilde is best way possible.

While I do love Craig, when we were going through the coaching search and he brought up Will Wade's name more than once, I had to cock an eyebrow or two at that.
I could never really tell if he was being serious or not, but he routinely mentioned that if nothing else, Will Wade's McNeese State team was the best basketball team he'd watched live this year (maybe that's a really low bar to clear, considering Michigan's....you know....8-24 deal).
Regardless, I think Warde Manuel would've thrown himself into a pit of rusty spikes before even picking up the phone to call Will Wade.
Best story is the lady that was a rival fan telling him to, sorry cant remember exactly, "Eat my ass?" Haha classic.
I am not a Wade fan. I am not a Wade fan. I am not a Wade fan... but as someone here pointed out, Wade's problem as a coach is now standard practice. Strong ass offers are now not just routine but also necessary. I admit I don't know how to process Wade's sins in the old environment (where frankly the NCAA had a habit of Sergeant Schultzing anyway) within the new environment.
Wade's problem as a coach is that he's not a coach he's a purchaser and then spectator of talent. There is no coaching involved. The fact it is now basically within the rules makes him simultaneously less shady but less effective.

I don't listen to the podcasts so I have only a passing knowledge of who Craig Ross is, but I assume that if Michigan hockey loses tonight, we're officially into the off-season?

Craig if you read this I enjoyed yesterday's roundtable, and was wondering if you could direct me to the podcast you talk about Alex Drain directing you to listening about Dusty May and team building? I would love to give it a listen as well.

Craig is a little grouchy because his brother Stephen doesn’t like to share.
When I first started listening I was sure Craig was our billionaire donor.
