Gonna be on FOX. Hilariously, saw OSU brag on insta that they will have the first nationally televised spring game because they go a week earlier.
Game is on 4/20...nice.
Why is this not when Hash Bash is held?
Hash bash was established in the early '70s. I think April 1 was adopted back in the '70s because of its ties to hippie "merry prankster" type culture, but I guess I could be wrong.
The "420" code did not become a widespread thing until the late '80s.
April 6th this year. 1998 was my first time experiencing Hash Bash at the Diag / Graduate Library.
And what a great day it was!
Hockey national championship in the afternoon!
I always site this day as the specific best day of my college life.
I was a junior... day began with bong rips in bed and ended walking back to 4th street as the sun rose behind our backs!
Absolutely! We got word of the hockey championship by a telegram up at Bursley Hall. North Campus is a different timezone than the main campus. It was a great day, I forgot that both happened on the same day in 98.

Hash Bash is always the first Saturday in April…if my memory serves me correctly.
Have I complimented you on your name, Mr. Querque?
Give my regards to your kin, Albu.
Klatt in the booth. Nice!
Klatt and Gus are our living, breathing good luck charms. When they are on, we are on.
I dunno, I still get bad flashbacks of Gus screaming OLLLLLLAAAAVVVVVEEEEE!!!
Do you also get good flashbacks of Gus screaming O-JA-BO?
And now I just got a flashback of Lisa calling "OL-IV-ER" down for hotcakes and Oliver grimacing about Lisa's efforts in the kitchen.
Fantastic show!
In a similar genre, I saw a couple Beverly Hillbillies shows recently. They actually are pretty funny.
There are only 6 people on here who even get this reference, but we all approved!
"He's loose again" - Gus calling Donovan Edwards second TD in the Natty.
You do know that wasn’t Gus Johnson, right? I’m only asking because you used the EXACT PHRASE Chris Fowler used when The Don broke loose…
"Welcome back! Donovan Edwards!"
-Keith Jackson
"Whoaaaaa, Nelly! Donovan Edwards, what are your thoughts on Neil Armstrong's moon landing today?"
-Keith Jackson
I'm excessively amused at the idea of someone mixing up Fowler's crisp narration with Gus's fragmented shrieking. They're both great, but couldn't be more opposite styles.
Last year Jake Butt and Devin Gardner were the announcers…a bit quaint and wonky but fit the atmosphere. Gus and Klatt be like “and there we have the first 10 yard pass between Jayden uh Davis uh Warren and …somebody”
Hang a hundred!
OSU could have waited a week, and the rating would have been higher. Instead, we get to enjoy the high ratings.
That's putting it bluntly.
We're gonna light up the joint that day.
OSU just didn't want none of that smoke.
I guess the suits have run the numbers and it will make $$$ ..... but I'm shocked to see a spring game airing on an OTA network. Alabama's spring games on ESPN have only drawn ~ 500K viewers over the years.
Sure, if not for this the various FOX OTA affiliates over the country would simply be showing infomercials instead. But when they do that, whatever they sell the airtime at it's 100% their $$$. They tend not to like it if they're forced to air too many low-viewership network shows.
I guess it's not unlike our Princess Kate discussion the other day. When it comes to TV, if you air it, they will care.
I day-tripped all the way to Phoenix Saturday to hang out with a friend and see an exhibition MLB game (Reds/Rockies). I get it, pre-season games and spring practices, they serve a purpose for the players and coaches. And I had fun hanging out with my friend. But, watching the game itself --- I was definitely thinking, why am I personally watching this, it's meaningless standings wise?!?!?
I would go to the game if it’s a nice day. And if they played it as some kind of competitive game that resembled football, I would watch it on TV, but only because I care about Michigan. I have never given other teams’ spring practices a look.
Well then, I'll have just to do my part and watch. And I will try to get my daughter - a newly minted Wolverine - to watch too.
We're National Champions, babe. We're the big time.
The biggest. Huge.
if we get a nice day michigan fans should really strive to make this the most attending spring game in memory. Still celebrating a title while rallying around the new head man. OSU always gets 80k+ at their spring games. we can do it
Holding the Spring Game when we are this year makes a huge difference weather-wise in Michigan.
The nasty weather when we typically hold the game is a big deterrent for attendance.
We also don't make a spectacle of it.
I don't know if it's changed under Harbaugh, but I remember going to our Spring game in school, and they weren't even showing the field on the big screens or announcing players. Me and my roommate sat in the stands for 30 mins and then left.
But I went to OSU's spring game (yeah, sue me) and it was the same setup as a game in September, with the band, player intros and hype videos, time keeping, PA announcements, etc.
Michigan baseball hosts Ohio State on April 20 at 2:00 pm--at least that's when it's scheduled now. It would be nice if they could move the baseball game a little later, so they can pack Ray Fisher Stadium too.
Definitely gonna be watching QB, OLine, 2nd CB, and Nickel performances.
Likewise, I'll be glued on the QB and OL. Those positions will be our question marks as I believe the rest of our lineup - especially the D - is solid-decent
Cool. Thanks for the news.
Debut of this years' Phony Signals? Or Helmet Comms?
Sorry, it is impossible for Ohio to have the first Nationally Televised Spring Game. We all know they have the pleasure of having the first Nationally Televised Spring Gaxe.
Oh, shoot. Does this mean we don't get to see Jake Butt and Devin Gardner on a split screen calling the action while the actual game takes up about 20 percent of the screen?
I wonder if Ohio State will be giving our opponent cheat sheets again.
They go weak earlier. That’s been established. I wouldn’t brag about it.
Happy 4/20 everyone
