All coaching hires are risky and there really aren't any better options out there.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:15 PM ^
I'm not saying I would be disappointed with Moore, but he was only head coach during a few game days. I'd at least like Michigan to consider hiring a coach with more experience.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:16 PM ^
There are no candidates. I'm sure there will be announcement that Moore is coach within 12 hrs.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:18 PM ^
I hope there is no search. Sign Sherrone quickly. Are there still Bama and Wash players in the portal to go after??
January 24th, 2024 at 7:19 PM ^
Moore as the Head Coach with external candidates considered for DC (assuming Minter is gone) and particularly OC. I'm all for continuity and culture, but some fresh ideas on offense from an elite OC could be helpful. The schedule year in and year out is going to be grueling and not ideal for a first time HC and a first time OC.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:53 PM ^
I had heard the name Joe Moorehead floated as OC.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:20 PM ^
1. Sherrone Moore or Mike Minter
2. Mike Hart
3. Chris Klieman (4 FCS national championships at NDSU)
January 24th, 2024 at 7:20 PM ^
1. Sherrone Moore or Mike Minter or Michael “Weeze in the ass-kicking business and business is booming” Barrett
2. Mike Hart
3. Chris Klieman (4 FCS national championships at NDSU)
January 24th, 2024 at 7:22 PM ^
Moore and spend the money to keep Herbert
January 24th, 2024 at 7:24 PM ^
Maybe the better question is: who out there would you take if you could have any name on an under three day turnaround like 'Bama did? And we are talking someone you believe is such a long term hit, that it is worth the short term roster decimation. I can't think of any that aren't pretty much entrenched where they are.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:57 PM ^
Had Alabama not gone first, DeBoer would have been the guy. And he would have taken it.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:25 PM ^
Also, if they do interview, then just for fun they should invite Bill O'Brien in!
January 24th, 2024 at 7:25 PM ^
Yeah it's going to be Sherrone Moore
January 24th, 2024 at 7:27 PM ^
I would've preferred Kiffin and his prolific offensive mind and also his pettiness. Or Brian Kelly. But if Jim says Moore can handle being the full time captain of this ship, I'll give him the benefit.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:09 PM ^
Love Jim but he’s loyal to a fault. Oh and he gave up being the head coach, he shouldn’t have any say what happens as he jumps ship.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:29 PM ^
This seems so obvious even if you doubt Moore’s ability (why o lord why though): if he doesn't produce he loses the job. So give him a chance.
January 24th, 2024 at 11:10 PM ^
lol what makes you think Warde is quick to fire anyone who does a poor job?
January 24th, 2024 at 7:29 PM ^
Better question is who is
1) OC
2) DC
3) ST coach
4) S&C coach, assuming Herbert leaves, which he’ll at least get an offer from Harbaugh.
January 24th, 2024 at 8:08 PM ^
Reports are Herbert is staying. S & C is way different in the NFL and underappreciated.
January 24th, 2024 at 8:31 PM ^
This is what I'm interested in too, specifically DC.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:31 PM ^
We know who Coach is. We already had the working interviews. Just wait for the announcement.
Never mind, you want to play rainbows and fairies…
(1) Bill Belichik
(2) Pete Carroll
(3) Nick Saban
January 24th, 2024 at 7:31 PM ^
Search? Nah. Sherrone Moore is the next head coach of Michigan.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:32 PM ^
Kalen DeBoer!
Ah shit
Okay Jedd Fisch!
Damnit.
January 25th, 2024 at 9:21 AM ^
Serious question: Couldn't Michigan still go after those guys? I don't think DeBoer would leave Bama as that is on par with Michigan as far as prestige but Washington doesn't compare to Michigan.
Have those guys signed binding contracts which would require a buyout?
January 24th, 2024 at 7:33 PM ^
Mike Tomlin is at the top of the list but I seriously ask Dan Lanning if he wants the job first.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:37 PM ^
I'm going to go way outside of the box here.
1 - Kelly- LSU
He can recruit. He can coach. Has (state of) Michigan ties. Has a long list of staff members that he can bring in if there is a mass exodus of coaches.
2 - Drinkwitz - Missouri
He's young. He can develop. He can recruit in the south. He can beat osu.
3 - Fleck - Minnesota
He's young. He's a player's coach. I think he would be able to recruit fairly well with the resources at Michigan. He had a lot of success at WMU. He's had some issues at Minnesota, It would be a gamble, but no more of a gamble than Moore.
I do wish Coach Moore ALL of the success when he becomes Michigan head coach. I certainly do like him and I don't want this post to sound negative.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:47 PM ^
Forgot about the Missouri coach, he would get a call if I were the AD
January 25th, 2024 at 7:02 AM ^
He is 1-0 vs OSU too
January 24th, 2024 at 7:59 PM ^
1 and 3 would cause rioting in Ann Arbor.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:59 PM ^
PJ Fleck?
*insert Michael Scott no dear God no gif*
That guy is phony as they come and is a slimy human being. Hard pass
January 24th, 2024 at 7:41 PM ^
Lance Leipold or Josh Heupel would be on the top of my list.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:41 PM ^
Sherrone Moore, Sherrone Moore, Sherrone Moore.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:43 PM ^
SM should be announced within 24 hrs I’d hope with an immediate effort to keep as much of the staff together as possible.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:46 PM ^
Klieman would be fun, but it won’t happen.
January 24th, 2024 at 7:48 PM ^
1). Lance Leipold. Sure thing in regards to winning. Dude has won absolutely everywhere he’s coached, including the burning couch program that Kansas was.
2). Sherrone Moore. Obvious. Love the guy, but the coordinator to head coach transition is not always a sure thing.
3). I got nothing realistic. DeBoer and Jed would have made this list, but….
January 24th, 2024 at 7:58 PM ^
Have to hire Moore at this stage. The coaching carousel outside of us is over and the entire roster would leave with him. But by next offseason most contributing pieces will be gone anyway and I think kicking the tires on a real coaching search then might not be a bad idea.
January 24th, 2024 at 8:03 PM ^
Moore, Moore and Moore. We’re 40-3 in the past 3 years. Any Administrator worth their salt promotes from within and hopes the train keeps rolling. Choo-choo motherfuckers. (Can we still say that, or is it strictly a Harbaugh thing?)
January 24th, 2024 at 8:03 PM ^
Hopefully Jim doesn’t raid this staff. You know Grant, Graham, and Will Johnson will be getting major $$$ thrown at them to transfer. We can’t afford to lose any of them if we hope to compete for a championship next year.
January 24th, 2024 at 8:15 PM ^
Not sure how realistic these are:
- Joe Brady
- Mike MacDonald
- Jesse Minter
- Chris Kleinman
- Dave Aranda
- Sherrone Moore
January 24th, 2024 at 8:24 PM ^
Are you really excited about the program if Moore is picked? If he was such a hot commodity…why has NOBODY come after him?
Pretty meh pick if you ask me.
January 24th, 2024 at 8:27 PM ^
Sherrone Moore, Sherrone Moore and Sherrone Moore.
January 24th, 2024 at 8:52 PM ^
An actual answer:
1. Deion
2. Belicik
3A. Urban
3B. PJ Fleck
Yes, 3/4 of those hires are highly unlikely, but Moore would be a Carr hire at best and a Ron English hire at worst. Maybe the players stick around and he goes 10-2 and gets bounced in the first round of the playoffs next year, but the wheels will come off sooner or later.
Saying that he "deserves" to take over a program that was 100% Harbaugh's for close to a decade because Moore "coached" 3 games that Harbaugh prepped, schemed, and gameplanned for every single minute of the day other than 60 minutes on GameDay, and where our defense performed better than our offense, is selling a National Championship winning program that has the purse to make any coach the highest paid coach in all of football woefully short of its potential.
We need someone to drive the car, not valet it.
January 24th, 2024 at 9:21 PM ^
Saying that he "deserves" to take over a program that was 100% Harbaugh's for close to a decade because Moore "coached" 3 games
No, it's because he's been here for 6 years and was an instrumental piece of building the team and culture we have now. He was an outstanding OL coach and OC. It helps that he has some in-game coaching experience for sure, but it is not because of it.
January 24th, 2024 at 9:27 PM ^
Deion’s a TV show, Belichick has an abysmal record without one Thomas L Brady, Urban- GTFO, PJamas’s boat is a dingy.
Harbaugh thought pretty highly of Sherrone, now suddenly he sucks? Piss off.
January 24th, 2024 at 8:53 PM ^
Sign Sherrone tomorrow and let’s get that man out on the recruiting trail.
Now Michigan can FINALLY put this annual NFL dance squarely in the rear view mirror.
January 24th, 2024 at 8:55 PM ^
#1 Dan Campbell....could you imagine? If he could do that with the Lions....
January 25th, 2024 at 2:18 PM ^
Please don't put this thought out into the world. Because it would also be the most Lions thing ever to let him go.
January 24th, 2024 at 8:56 PM ^
There's no search. It's Moore.
January 24th, 2024 at 8:56 PM ^
There might be a procedure search but Moore probably has the job. I knew JH was leaving when JJ skipped his final season. I hope Moore can become a successful coach here. I wonder if he promotes Hart to OC or goes find a new one? I would hire the either the Raven's DB or LB coach. I think John will agree, since the Michigan experience makes their coaches much better after their stint with Michigan. We need to keep the Raven's defense going here.
