'Finebaum is a caricature of a caricature of Paul Finebaum'.

What happened to Michigan leaving the big ten talk?? Now is the time to hit up FSU and to start a new conference
December 4th, 2023 at 7:12 PM ^
It went as well as "Stal Bombs."
December 4th, 2023 at 7:22 PM ^
Did Sam say that guy was legit??
December 4th, 2023 at 7:29 PM ^
No one knows. What is known is that the tweets/talks have just subsided.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:28 PM ^
I’d do everything possible to lure Michigan if I were the ACC. It’d increase the legitimacy of the conference and Michigan- ND annually would be $$$$
December 4th, 2023 at 7:49 PM ^
If ND would join the conference for real that would make it more interesting.
December 4th, 2023 at 9:08 PM ^
The ACC is dead. The CFP committee made that clear.
December 4th, 2023 at 9:26 PM ^
The committee made it clear that they are bad at their jobs. And they fear the SEC
December 5th, 2023 at 9:54 AM ^
Michigan moving to ACC would work out great for them. The B10 fucked Michigan over making them play oregon, usc, and washington in the same season knowing they have Texas and osu. I'm shocked they didnt add UCLA and PSU to the schedule.
Get out of that shit show and avoid west coast trips.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:46 PM ^
Finebaum would like to welcome Michigan, Washington, and Texas to the SEC Invitational.
Go get'em Desmond!!!
December 4th, 2023 at 7:56 PM ^
I think that was exclusively people on message boards.
December 4th, 2023 at 8:50 PM ^
I think it was reported that the regents at least discussed it.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:58 PM ^
I think if the SEC had been left out of the CFP, you could’ve made the case for the beginning of a super league. Although tough OOC games at one point had their merit, FSU exposed that myth vs LSU. As $$ and booster sponsorship is, and continues to be, the main driver for CFB, would you rather see Mich play 12 games vs the likes of USC, OSU, UT, UGA, and Bama or Iowa, IU, Rutgers, Illinois, and Minny? Our conference loyalty has already hit the shitter so what’s the sense in holding up the little guys any longer if they’re just going to drag you through the mud via sign gate?
All the 12-team playoff is going to do is allow a few more 2nd tier P5 teams to play another week and we’ll continue to only see the cream of the crop play after the regular season. It’ll be fun and I’m sure there will be an upset here or there but someone is going to get left out of that process too.
December 4th, 2023 at 8:55 PM ^
I’m still down for it
December 4th, 2023 at 7:09 PM ^
Perfectly said
December 4th, 2023 at 8:06 PM ^
Gus Johnson is also a caricature. I bet he practices - in front of a mirror - snarky comments and made up nick names all week before a game.
If we were not winning so many games in a row, I would be annoyed.
December 5th, 2023 at 12:04 AM ^
Gus is a huge Michigan fan and tries not to come across as being overly biased towards them. This causes him to swing the other way with his takes.
December 5th, 2023 at 10:22 AM ^
No- this gets said all the time, but he is not. I don't know why, maybe he was jilted by a UM coed back in the day. I have watched and listened to Gus many many times call Mich football and basketball games, and his favorite team in those two sports is the MSU Spartans (he loves him some Tom Izzo), and his love of the "world famous" Ohio State football team is next.
And yes, I've heard his Jesse Owens explanation for that moniker, but that doesn't really ring true to me. I know that home fans often think famous announcers favor the other team, Brent Musberger used to get that complaint all the time- with OSU, Mich and Notre Dame fans all claiming he was against them, but it was never true. Brent, as most announcers do, pulled for the big story and the great moment, no matter who was enjoying it.
But to the contrary several OSU fans I know (I lived in Columbus for 5 years) DO THINK that Gus favors them.
December 5th, 2023 at 9:56 AM ^
Come on, you dont like when Gus yells "Touchdown Wolverines!"
December 4th, 2023 at 7:11 PM ^
Finebaum really resembles Walter. Walter is actually funny though and Finebaum is an insufferable prick.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:23 PM ^
I thought Great Gazoo but this is a better comparison. Spot on
December 4th, 2023 at 7:36 PM ^
I never could figure out who Finebaun looked like, and you nailed it. The puppet to ESPN.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:48 PM ^
Why is Finebum famous? He’s not a former athlete or coach. He is not attractive. He has no personality or really any redeeming qualities. How the hell did he get a job in broadcasting?
December 4th, 2023 at 8:07 PM ^
He's a shill for the SEC. Their fans hang on his every word. He just happened to be there and was willing to sell his soul.
December 5th, 2023 at 8:16 AM ^
Speaking of selling souls....PAT McAfee sold his soul to ESPN. I remember when he was still in the NFL and he had some stints on the Bob and Tom show. He was funny and I enjoyed listening to him. Now, hes just a shock jock, and again another shill for ESPN.
December 5th, 2023 at 9:59 AM ^
2 years ago I thought Pat was alright. I can't stand him now.
December 4th, 2023 at 8:38 PM ^
A minor league journalist who went into radio, got some traction with a regional southern network where he teased Bama fans. Got picked up by ESPN. Faux intellectual. May not know almost anything about xs and os?
December 5th, 2023 at 9:57 AM ^
A lot of ass kissing is why Paul is on TV. His soul is like a dark cold basement.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:51 PM ^
Walter has Jeff Dunham’s hand up his ass and Finebaum has the SEC’s up his?
December 4th, 2023 at 7:11 PM ^
Finebaum is a grade A JERK and a paid SEC Propagandist
December 4th, 2023 at 7:11 PM ^
In other words he a PENIShead
December 4th, 2023 at 10:24 PM ^
You hit the nail on the head. ;)
December 4th, 2023 at 7:14 PM ^
Um, I don't know what the place is like now, but once upon a time ESPN was extremely sensitive about on-air personality criticizing other on-air personality. Either they've relaxed on that or Des is leaving ESPN.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:16 PM ^
He already bitch slapped Thamel so maybe !!!
December 4th, 2023 at 7:18 PM ^
Any organization that could hire this talentless Sasquatch is fucked up....
December 4th, 2023 at 7:30 PM ^
Someone negged this comment? Show yourself.
December 4th, 2023 at 9:30 PM ^
i don’t neg, and i’m definitely not a fan, but calling a black woman “sasquatch” is way out of bounds.
December 5th, 2023 at 10:02 AM ^
But shes too short to called big foot though...
December 4th, 2023 at 8:03 PM ^
Why you insult Sasquatch??
December 4th, 2023 at 7:34 PM ^
Finebaun says a lot worse about Michigan than Howard said about Thamel and Finebaun. I know Michigan is not an ESPN "personality" but Pete's dislike of Michigan is obvious in his extreme negativity of the football program.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:44 PM ^
I believe Finebaum was criticizing Michigan for breaking some “CFP tradition”, by choosing the Rose Bowl for the venue of their game.
People are entitled to an opinion - maybe I’m too idealistic. I would enjoy seeing a few sports analysts / commenters justify (or substantiate) their opinion with some rationale or facts. And, yes, I realize that’s a very tall “ask”.
December 4th, 2023 at 9:25 PM ^
What tradition is that?
December 4th, 2023 at 11:07 PM ^
Finebaum, as he often does - didn’t provide any detail. My inference was the SEC champion plays in the Sugar Bowl, and - Michigan ignored that by selecting to play In Pasadena.
December 4th, 2023 at 9:31 PM ^
Yes, how dare we violate the glorious nine-year "tradition" of the CFP by choosing a venue that only hosted the first bowl game ever played (by us!), 121 years ago.
December 4th, 2023 at 8:05 PM ^
According to Shuster, Thamel's dream school was Michigan, but was rejected and had to settle at Syracuse. Ever since, he's indiscriminately talked trash. Good on Michigan for identifying a buffoon and denying an admission.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:18 PM ^
We will want him for the MGoBlue Network.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:32 PM ^
Agreed. Not sure if anyone watched the CFP selection show yesterday but the commentators were literally a comment or two away from putting each other on blast. Booger McFarland non-descriptively used the term “we” when referring to ESPN as influencing media narratives and Galloway had to backtrack for him and abruptly tell him to not say “we”.
ESPN clearly wants robotic commentators to use Group Think tactics and not stray too far from the narrative they set out. Good for Desmond and Booger for speaking out but something tells me being your authentic self isn’t smiled upon unless you’re an SEC homer like Slimebaum or longtime jackass like Stephen A.
December 4th, 2023 at 8:32 PM ^
Galloway is admittedly an easy guy for me to dislike, but I thought he seemed objectively way over-the-top in the gratuitous way he reacted to Booger's comment. A very simple "that doesn't speak for me"--minus the self-righteousness--would have worked just fine.
Agree on the clear message about towing the party line. Makes me wonder if they're circling the wagons in advance of a shitstorm that they know they had a lot to do with creating. Going from reporting the news to creating it continues to be a really bad look.
December 4th, 2023 at 8:57 PM ^
But if you like the news they create, it’s just fine (mostly for the SEC crowd).
Also if you’ve read any of the recent op-ed articles since the CFP release that seem to rebuttal the SEC bias or confirming the CFP made a mistake, it’s almost as if they’re trying so hard to say, “See, we’re allowing writers to disagree with us and we’re posting it, so we can’t possibly be biased.”
As if that makes FSU and everyone who uses sanity to conduct their lives feel all better. So transparent, aren’t they?
December 4th, 2023 at 9:13 PM ^
Galloway criticized the "we" but then inadvertently and unironically said "we" himself.
