Rank your top 5 plays from these OSU wins
November 28th, 2023 at 6:39 AM ^
5) Corum’s 22 yd run
4) “Kid can’t throw the deep ball” bomb to CJ in 22
3) Donovan’s 85 yd run
2) Sanistril breaking up pass in endzone
1) O-JA-BO!
November 28th, 2023 at 6:45 AM ^
Which one? I can think of 24-30 others or maybe even 42 or 45. I like the Will Johnson interception and Aiden Hutchinson plays. Bold move to pick 5. Edit: yes, to the Sainristil PBU.
I like the Edwards 85-yard run because I will never forget the shouting oh-no groans from the MSU party next door.
November 28th, 2023 at 8:07 AM ^
I agree, which one? Since OP is a little unclear and I'm feeling mischievous, I add:
1991 - Desmond Howard 91-Yd Punt Return.
1997 - Charles Woodson - 78 Yd Punt Return
November 28th, 2023 at 9:05 AM ^
And of course I add 1969: Barry Pierson's 60-yard punt return to the Buckeye 3-yard line, setting up a Don Moorhead score (yes, I was in the stands for that one!)
November 28th, 2023 at 7:01 AM ^
Don’t forget Hutch!
November 28th, 2023 at 7:02 AM ^
i will be a slight contrarian, and pick a bunch of plays from the 2021 game where you knew, you simply knew, the tide had changed long before the game was over and when ohio did score that day you/we were still thinking, 'that's okay, they can't stop us and we aren't going to choke'.
first TD with the counter/reverse to the end zone
cojo's catch on that long ball, sliding to the 2 or 3 yd line at the end of the 2nd quarter
ross stuffing their 3rd down right after half time
corum breaking free for about 50 right after that, and on a bad, bad wheel
and of course, who can forget haskins hurdling the fool in the 4th.
watching all of that in the snow you simply knew we were going to win and the world had changed.
these are great days of football. enjoy.

ross stuffing their 3rd down right after half time
Huge play. The moment when I began to believe we could win.
November 28th, 2023 at 8:25 AM ^
My #1 as well. That play turned the last 3 years for me from BPONE into belief.
After seeing this:
That moment was my version of:
November 28th, 2023 at 9:02 AM ^
This is perfect.
#2 for me is the 2nd to last Haskins TD, which is the point in the match where Drago's will broke.
On that TD you could visibly see OSU's spine had broken. Even more important now, as proof that it was never the signs but always the spine.
November 28th, 2023 at 11:49 PM ^
it was never the signs but always the spine.
Print that quote out and frame it. Beautifully said.

Henderson may be the only one in this graphic who isn't in the NFL - and that's only because he is still in college. Jeremy Ruckert is the only starter in this graphic without a star - he was a 3rd round draft choice.
Oh, and I guess Ryan Day doesn't have a star by his name. Coaching (Xs and Os, player development, and organizational culture) - which doesn't show up in this chart - just might have been a key factor in that game and the 2 that followed it.

The first image you posted still has the funniest comment I've seen on MGoBlog. "It looks like a fucking constellation" on the FFF in 2021.
November 28th, 2023 at 9:40 AM ^
I love those.
I've got to say, though, my BPONE was going strong until there were all 0s on that clock.
November 28th, 2023 at 10:06 AM ^
You were not alone with that BPONE., but in the stadium I was watching their bench and their body language and could see they were disinterested early on in the game. Sad pandas sitting in the snow, in their red coats, freezing

I think that Ross stop was one of the pivotal plays of the 2021 game. That was third and two on their first drive of the half when Michigan was only up by a point, and Ross put a stop to the possibility that Ohio State would score on that possession.
It also allowed the offense to take over and extend the lead, which it did. From my perspective, that was also one of the plays that started to put my BPONE to rest.
I realize there were other big defensive plays in the game, and you could make a pretty good case for (off the top of my head) Hutchinson's sack on Ohio State's second drive of the second half or Ojabo's sack on their last drive. Still, the Hutchinson sack came on third and nine and Ojabo's sack came when Michigan was up by 15 with about a minute to play.
1. Ross stop as discussed above.
2. Hassan Haskins hurdling a defender to get to the 4 to help put the game away in 2021. You could make a case for any of his first down runs on that drive.
3. JJ to Cornelius Johnson for 69 in 2022. You could make a pretty good case for his other touchdown in this game as well, but at this point in the game I felt Michigan was getting outplayed
4. Corum's 22-yard TD run this year.
5. Donovan Edwards' 75-yard TD run in 2022.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:08 AM ^
1) Mullings pop pass
2) JJ seeing-eye laser through multiple defenders to Wilson for TD
3) Haskins sweep for third M touchdown in 2021
4) Sainristil PBU
5) Will Johnson INT
November 28th, 2023 at 7:27 AM ^
Will Johnson INT proved to be the difference in the game. Massive play.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:12 AM ^
The moment Haskins hurdled that dude was the exact moment I thought "we might really win this" and that was the sweetest joy next to getting...
So, that's my absolute #1

I have (3) Daughters and the love is not equal. Amazingly the love simply grows and somehow you find this capacity to love all the more that you never imagine you could.
That being said I can also tell you that there are those whom I prefer to be with depending on the time and place.
#1. O-JAB-O/Hutchison Sack 2021
#2. Hasskins Hurdle 2021
#3. Edwards 75YD (2nd run) 2022
#4. Corum 22 YD TD
#5. Michigan Plants the FLAG in OHIO
November 28th, 2023 at 9:58 AM ^
The Don's 75 yard was his first TD. The 2nd TD run was 85 yards. This is like you mixing up your daughters' names or ages.

Well played
November 28th, 2023 at 7:15 AM ^
Getting ready for work and don't have time to think up five but #1 is definitely now this year's Wilson TD just on principle. Yes, Burke took the ball in the endzone, but it's clear as day Wilson broke the plane with it, and the whining and crying about it from Ohio State and (sigh, of course...) MSU fans for some reason, has been hilariously epic. It was a hell of a lot clearer than the TD taken AWAY from Wilson against TCU and you fucks had no problem with that, so now you can deal with it going the other way.

Exactly, Hey Bucknuts, take your spot in 2016 and choke on it.

Hutch putting that OT on his rear-end symbolizes the change in Michigan football vs Ohio State for each of the last three games. Despite all the other legendary plays, this one is number 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 on my list.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:51 AM ^
1. CJ for the long one down the sideline changed the game
2. Sainristil PBU (4 point play)
3. Hutch 1st sack to force FG(4 point play)
4. Will Johnson INT (game)
5. JJ keeper into the end zone, that’s the element we’d been missing. (4point play)
November 28th, 2023 at 2:36 PM ^
Before CJ's touchdown that game was trending ugly real fast, huge turnaround
November 28th, 2023 at 8:00 AM ^
1. Mike /Stover endzone breakup.
2. Blake 22 yard scamper TD right after Big Z injury and flashing the 65 perfectly.
3. Hutch 3 sacks (sorry) breaking Dad's record and rattling Stroud whole game.
4. Donovan 85 yards TD stroll.
5. Hassan hurdle capping a raucous paving of the Staysoft Marshmallow Man's team.
Jim says iron sharpens iron. Who has UM had to practice against all season? A physical offensive line and a can-do-anything QB versus an NFL caliber d-line and d-backfield all summer and season. Not a package made to mimic one. Then take your chances out-scheming superior SEC talent in the playoffs. Bracket the stars like Urban fanatically featured (I still have Percy Harvin nightmares) and MHJ confessed to this causing issues.
B10 outdoor November stadium conditions aren't what OSU practices for all year. They play for the post season show on turf perfect conditions. Off and on Michigan simulated packages aren't the same as a games worth of the real thing (7 minutes and another winning margin field goal Wyin) Except you have to get there. Three times in a row the mercenaries didn't make it. Keep buying more talent is their answer, I guess. Or have your compromised Lil Titti mandate all indoor B10 stadiums ...you know...for competitive fairness and student athlete safety.
What a great, still mostly genuine sport.
November 28th, 2023 at 8:05 AM ^
This is a great ranking. I like that you spread the love.I would add one specific to Hutch, where he motions the 5 star O lineman over to encourage him to try to block him. Not sure if it was even a sack. But I would put it on the list, maybe even at number 3, just for the sheer audacity and announcement to the world that this was the end of an era.
November 28th, 2023 at 8:08 AM ^
I know I wasn’t the only one that turned to someone they were watching the game with after the Sainristil break up and say emphatically “play of the game”. That really was an all time heroic effort.
November 28th, 2023 at 8:52 AM ^
It is hard to beat Sainristil's play. We'd already crushed OSU the year before, but there was still the feeling that maybe it was a fluke. After going 3-16 in the first 20 years of this century, OSU still felt dangerous inevitable in a Thanos type way. 5'10" Sainristil making up ground to knock the ball away from a 6'5" Stover to stop OSU from getting back in the game was more Dikembe Mutombo than David and Goliath. Yes we figuratively slayed a giant, but to do it in their house? We're the giant now.

November 28th, 2023 at 8:01 AM ^
Damned hard to actually pick only five and then rank them, but I just want to throw in a plug for CJ Stroud's panic-chuck to Taylor Upshaw. That has to be honorable mention.
November 28th, 2023 at 9:06 AM ^
That one was on my mind as well!!
November 28th, 2023 at 8:07 AM ^
1. HH hurdle
2a. 2022 Edwards 85 yd TD run
2b. 2023 Corum 22 yd TD run
3. 2023 Moore INT
4. 2022 Edwards 75 yd TD run
haskins run and subsequent TD iced the game and broke the 8 game losing streak.
the Edwards 85 yd TD run all but iced the game in 2022 but the emotions of scoring immediately after losing a captain and giving UM the lead back after bleeding off a 14-3 lead to 17-17 was huge. Too close to call there.
Moore INT ends the game in 2023, and the Edwards 75 yd TD run ices the game in 2022. They’re big, just not as big as the moments in the 1 & 2 spots.
November 28th, 2023 at 8:08 AM ^
All 2023.... cuz what have you done for me lately?
1. victory formation
2. Mikey stickin' henderson
3. Q Johnson's huge PBU
4. Blake's 2nd TD
5. JJ to Roman TD
November 28th, 2023 at 8:09 AM ^
Too many to choose from because every single player had important contributions on almost every down. I think of plays like Harrell breaking up the pass to their TE last year, CJ's 4 catches this year that moved the chains at critical times, QJ's hit, Mikey's PBU, all of Barrett's snaps, Beny pressuring Stroud and Upshaw's pick. I mean that's the beauty of these wins, EVERYONE contributes and plays darn near perfectly. What a beautiful 3 years it has been!
November 28th, 2023 at 8:11 AM ^
I dunno if it’s a top 5 play but that missed field goal by OSU proved to be a huge play in that game.
November 28th, 2023 at 8:15 AM ^
I liked that one play where Ryan Day outsmarted himself because we were in his head

1. 2021 Victory Formation (broke the streak)
t-2. 2022 Victory Formation
t-2. 2023 Victory Formation
4. Hutchinson bowling over the tackle
5. Not sure there are so many more to choose from
November 28th, 2023 at 8:18 AM ^
So many plays to choose from. As others have noted above, it's hard to even make a top 5 as so many key plays are missing from this list. Just from this year's game missing: Donovan Edwards' HB pass, Will Johnson INT against Marvin Harrison, Tommy Doman's punt, JJ threading the needle to Roman Wilson for a TD.
Hard to beat the Blake Corum TD run one play after losing Zak Zinter to a broken leg. OSU had all the momentum after tying the game (the closest OSU would get all game), and it was looking pretty bleak during the extended timeout to attend to Zinter's injury. Throwing up Zinter's number after scoring added to it as well. I have never seen a play like that. That is going to be the play Corum is remembered for.
November 28th, 2023 at 8:25 AM ^
1. 2023 Corum's 22 yard TD. Lifted the team back up.
2. 2021 Entire opening drive. Set the tone.
3. 2022 Sainristil breaking up pass in endzone. Forced FG.
4. 2022 TD pass to Loveland. Set the tone for the 2nd half.
5. 2021 The long drought is over ohio state has been vanquished.
