Josh Henschke says Petitti is "waffling"
While I tend to take the sort of insider information that sounds like mind reading with a grain of salt, the timing of this report is interesting since it seems to coincide with the law firm news as well as the Michigan House letter.

Can you hear that? That's the sound of the comeback. Go Blue!

Imagine the cabbage one would make as a partner at that firm. Jeebus.

probably a lot. And they probably work 70+ hours/week.

I'd be happy with the job that cleans the place.

I once had occasion to hire them. My attorney made the federal prosecutor cry. I thought, “What kind of monster is this? What kind of beautiful monster?”
November 8th, 2023 at 8:29 PM ^
Hold on, I’d like some more info on this situation for a couple reasons: 1. I do not like prosecutors, they are the worst; 2. What kind of white collar crimes did you [allegedly] commit?

No that is the sound of Tony's peepee getting pushed in.
November 8th, 2023 at 4:39 PM ^
There is a reason they call him "Little Tone" and its not because his last name is Petitti.

I think that’s the Blue Wave or is it the Blue Wall ? Either way they hear it

a Petitti Twister
November 8th, 2023 at 4:37 PM ^
Pettiti is waffling because he is afraid of getting pancaked on PSU weekend.

Alan Branch, esquire, at your service.
November 8th, 2023 at 7:07 PM ^
I never get tired of seeing the Allan Branch picture.
November 8th, 2023 at 8:03 PM ^
I was at that game. Not often 100K+ get to witness a murder.
November 8th, 2023 at 6:56 PM ^
instead of a comeback, I'd rather say it's the sound of a horseshit balloon, deflating.

You see that flash of light in the corner of your eye? That's your career dissipation light. It just went into high gear.-Brian McCaffrey

“Sign stealing, they trying to suspend me for sign stealing, in the Big Ten? Sheeeeiiiiittt. I’ll steal anybody’s sign if they giving it away!”
November 8th, 2023 at 4:01 PM ^
So... serious question, but didn't want to clutter the board with a new post.
If this new comissioner is a former TV guy, then why then hell is he even picking sides in this situation?
Maybe an old-school, former AD which tons of personal connections to different schools would look at keeping 13 schools happy at the expense of the 1, but wouldn't a TV guy look at this and see it as "I've got two schools poised to go to the championship and bring in a ton of money, why in the world would I want to forfeit one of those chances?"
It makes no sense to me that a TV guy is more concerned about Illinois and Rutgers opinions vs. ratings and money.
November 8th, 2023 at 4:04 PM ^
My guess: he is in his first year, most of which he spent on expansion talks.
He is new to the entire NCAA / college scene.
He might think if it is 13 against one he should line up with the 13, as he
works for the conference.
November 8th, 2023 at 4:09 PM ^
Plus he comes from the baseball world, where "sign stealing" carries some heavy baggage.
November 8th, 2023 at 7:12 PM ^
Yeah, thus seems likely. The he whips out his 'thing' to show his power and ends up pissing on an electric fence.
November 8th, 2023 at 8:54 PM ^
Who says he has a good stream..
November 8th, 2023 at 4:05 PM ^
I think he probably doesn’t understand ball first and foremost. And didn’t bother getting unbiased people who do understand ball. I’m sure he listened to the bitching from coaches and ADs, didn’t think about their own bias and connection to the situation and tool their word for it. This has exposed a lot of people who don’t understand the game and sign stealing. He just read the planned PR campaign clippings without any critical thinking. That’s the point of PR campaigns. The conference and NCAA are not immune from going with the flow on public sentiment. UM was caught flat footed and needed to be on the offensive earlier.
November 8th, 2023 at 4:08 PM ^
My guess (and this is an opinion like assholes type guess) - he believed that this was actually "the biggest scandal in big ten history" and knowing he's a TV guy wanted to make it clear that he doesn't mess around. He probably thought he could send a message that he's serious and that he takes things seriously. And instead, he looks like a chump who got taken for a ride by 13 other schools.
If you believe "this is the biggest scandal in big ten history" then you basically have to go to the mat for that. Problem is, he did not know what kind of an organization he was dealing with. He rushed in trying to be a hero, and now is desperately searching for a way out of a mess he exacerbated.
The neat thing is, his mistake makes us look better because it made the whole scandal look foolish.
November 8th, 2023 at 4:40 PM ^
He may well have thought that. He could have posted here and measured his thoughts against negbangs like I do but he chose to go public with it. If he sought counsel he needs better people around him. If he did it of his own accord he's in the wrong chair.
November 8th, 2023 at 4:48 PM ^
He screwed himself hella hard by not slowing down and getting a rational opinion on the matter. I would not be surprised if he's out of the job in a few months, as he's either gonna be hated by the 13 other AD's for appearing to back down, or get embarassed in court by Michigan by trying too hard to look tough.
If he simply was calm, rational and measured, this all gets handled behind closed doors and the conference doesn't look silly for squabbling over obscure rulebook violations.
November 8th, 2023 at 4:16 PM ^
I agree. I feared they had some mind blowing evidence of horrible transgressions and he had to act immediately. The scandal of all scandals.
November 8th, 2023 at 4:24 PM ^
He is obviously in over his head.
November 8th, 2023 at 4:25 PM ^
Brian’s “people are just in charge of things for no reason” has never felt more apt than these last couple weeks.

It's a legitimately useful razor.
November 8th, 2023 at 4:33 PM ^
I’d propose a slightly simpler explanation. The man is not very smart and acting without a plan. He’s trying to put out each day’s fire and his panic is eating every bullshit sandwich served to him in the hopes it’s the one that makes this problem go away.
November 8th, 2023 at 6:04 PM ^
I dunno. You don't get into Harvard law and become MLB COO with mediocre intelligence. I think he is just new to a job he doesn't fully understand, and when a crisis popped up, he didn't want to appear weak and do nothing. Heads of (especially American) organizations are encouraged to be bold and decisive, but that isn't always the best course of action.
November 8th, 2023 at 6:14 PM ^
Everyone is venturing theories about a guy before he has said a word.

Have you ever had 13 little bitches nipping at your heels?
November 8th, 2023 at 5:56 PM ^
My sources are saying that Ryan Day had all the coaches wearing eye black, tight shorts, yellow striped 70's socks yanked up to mid-calf and "just for men" T-shirts at the meeting which had to be intimidating or awkward.
November 8th, 2023 at 4:01 PM ^
Keep retweeting and otherwise foregrounding sympathetic "neutral" perspectives, particularly from the media. Every post counts
November 8th, 2023 at 4:49 PM ^
Yup, the dumber this scandal looks, the worse he looks for feeding the flames of outrage amongst the conference

It's funny because Pettitti is the one who got emotional here
