Is Cade still with the team?
November 6th, 2022 at 1:33 PM ^
Yes, injured.
November 6th, 2022 at 6:25 PM ^
What is his actual injury? I felt like they said lower body / leg initially, but some comments below say separated shoulder.
November 6th, 2022 at 9:42 PM ^
Cade is taking an injury year and will likely apply to the NCAA for a waiver ala St. Juste. He’ll have 3 years wherever he transfers. Everyone here will be pissed when he transfers to Iowa or Wisconsin and becomes an annual pain in the ass.
and a functional, cool headed, upper class Cade will be a problem if he goes to a school with a good defense.
November 6th, 2022 at 10:03 PM ^
I don’t know what he’s thinking, if he would want to go back west, but you know what’d be a good fit? Cincinnati
November 7th, 2022 at 9:06 AM ^
Notre Dame is another good fit.
November 6th, 2022 at 1:33 PM ^
The AA NIL club did a podcast with Davis Warren a few days ago and he said Cade was still coming in to watch tape with him after practice. He did say "even now" in a way that implied Cade wasn't fully engaged with the team.
Edit: Sorry, I remembered this wrong. He said Cade is "still" doing film review with him even though he's not active. So similar sentiment but I got the wording wrong.
November 6th, 2022 at 1:46 PM ^
What is the team policy for injured players? Do they need to come in and watch film? If not, that would explain the "even now."
November 6th, 2022 at 3:48 PM ^
They likely don’t travel, but I thought the cameras caught Cade on the sidelines against Sparty
November 6th, 2022 at 5:24 PM ^
He has been on the sideline for every home game.
November 6th, 2022 at 8:21 PM ^
You can see him walking up the tunnel in the infamous "Sparty Tunnel" videos.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:03 PM ^
That little "even now" might be the most substantive insight provided by anyone associated with the football program or by anyone associated with Cade McNamara family. It is not much. I am impressed with everyone's ability to keep their mouths shut.
That takes some serious discipline.
November 6th, 2022 at 3:06 PM ^
I think it also has something to do with the climate surrounding Michigan. My guess is that media members know more about what’s really going on but on but stay quiet about it because they don’t want to risk their level of access.
November 6th, 2022 at 3:26 PM ^
Funny how you were never when this is 100 percent true. So many weird things going on this year with injury that the media is not reporting on.
November 6th, 2022 at 1:34 PM ^
Yes, he's still a captain too.
November 6th, 2022 at 1:34 PM ^
Injured players don't travel with the team, due to travel roster limits. This isn't really worth a board post.
November 6th, 2022 at 1:38 PM ^
It is certainly a reasonable inquiry as to what Cade’s status is. He would presumably be our #1 backup if he is still playing and practicing with the team.
November 6th, 2022 at 1:48 PM ^
It was reasonable the first few times someone decided to start a thread with this question, it's past that now.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:38 PM ^
"It was reasonable the first few times someone decided to start a thread with this question, it's past that now."
It was timely to ask the question again given some of the hits JJ was taking last night. I was thinking "it sure would be nice to have Cade as a backup option" as I saw JJ trying to get that extra yard along the sidelines and taking that hit. Unless the question has been answered here somewhere in the last 24 hours and I missed it, in which case....pile on....
November 6th, 2022 at 3:09 PM ^
It’s fine. There’s some weird “we-don’t-talk-about-Cade” mafia on here
November 6th, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
FYI - Cade was shown ON THE SIDELINE with the team during MSU game. And the announcers mentioned it.
November 6th, 2022 at 1:40 PM ^
they can travel, it just has to be on their own dime and obviously they can't pad-up. i think ronnie bell went to all (most?) of the away games last year with his leg in a brace and on crutches. i will confess disappointment that cade hasn't been with the team on the sidelines AFAIK, (except for the MSU) at least for home games, despite his injury. when you are a captain you don't shirk that honor or that responsibility.
November 6th, 2022 at 1:45 PM ^
I'm pretty sure he's been on the sidelines for every home game.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
Good. I had not seen it mentioned and not been to a game this year.
November 6th, 2022 at 5:21 PM ^
I find Cade in my binoculars at every home game this year since his injury. I don’t know if he travels because I haven’t been to an away game but I thought they showed him briefly last night.
as I’ve previously mentioned, unless things have changed since I played, most injured players travel to games at their own cost unless they are taking up a spot on the travel roster.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:29 PM ^
I didn’t see any crutches. Did anyone see whether he was limping, had anything wrapped or casted, or appeared to be impaired in any way?
November 6th, 2022 at 3:58 PM ^
It was a shoulder injury. Why would he be on crutches? This was all talked about when it happened.
November 6th, 2022 at 6:04 PM ^
Cade has a lower body injury, per Harbaugh. (Unless he’s injured something else since then.)
November 6th, 2022 at 9:55 PM ^
Nope.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:00 PM ^
Cade was 100% on the sideline during the PSU game.
November 6th, 2022 at 4:16 PM ^
If he’s 100%, why didn’t he play.
I kid, I kid.
November 6th, 2022 at 3:38 PM ^
Also, didn't Bell crutch out to midfield with the other captains for the coin toss most if not all games last year? Even more so than not traveling to away games, I don't understand why Cade, as a captain (he's still a captain right?) isn't going out with the other captains for the coin toss, injury or not...
November 6th, 2022 at 3:17 PM ^
Yeah, don't dare question anything on health status about our Big Ten winning QB and first back up after watching JJ get trucked and limping and shaking his throwing arm (UM doesn't have to answer-HIPA). Suddenly only certain players players injury status can't be a concern despite the potential vital nature of the depth.
Can I inquire about NHG/Trente who I also hope can return for the stretch run given potential post regular season length?
November 6th, 2022 at 4:13 PM ^
Starting to wonder if NHG is taking the redshirt and maybe transferring
November 6th, 2022 at 4:35 PM ^
Transferring? Unless you are being sarcastic.
November 6th, 2022 at 5:16 PM ^
He would be starting at a position of need if he were healthy, so why in the world would he transfer... unless he is taking advice from Frankie Collins...
I think he already took his redshirt as a freshman, but if he misses this whole year he can apply for an extra medical year of eligibility.
Fuggedabout getting injury info from Fort Schembechler. They'll tell us when they want to tell us, and it will be on this message board right away.
November 6th, 2022 at 3:33 PM ^
It’s relevant generally. I was at the sparty game, near the bench, but didn’t see Cade at all. Maybe I just missed him. But nobody else seemed to see him, either, and originally Harbaugh said Cade would be back in a few weeks. It’s been more than a few.
edit: I see someone else says he was in street clothes on the sidelines. Which leads me to believe he’s redshirting.
November 6th, 2022 at 3:46 PM ^
Cade already redshirted. In order to get a 7th year -- and, why? He appears to believe he can play in the pros -- he'd have to show that his 2019 redshirt was also a medical redshirt… or, at least, he'd have to convince the NCAA, which seems to be a hit-or-miss affair.
The most likely reason for him being in street clothes is that he hasn't been cleared to return to games, not some desire to preserve a year of eligibility that he (a) probably wouldn't want and (b) probably can't get.
November 6th, 2022 at 5:25 PM ^
Cade was on the sideline for MSU. I saw him multiple times in the binoculars.
it is weird to me how some captains go out for the coin toss etc. even when injured and others don’t seem to do anything.
watching warmups this year it’s clear Erick All has been way more involved than Cade. All is constantly around the players, in huddles, and chatting with all kinds of people, including Cade. Before MSU he was standing stationary and catching passes for QBs warming up.
I haven’t seen Cade do anything at all connected to the team besides stand down there. this is just my own anecdotal observations and should be taken with a grain of salt.
November 6th, 2022 at 9:59 PM ^
Please. No comments are allowed which might state or imply that St. Cade hasn’t been 100% team first since losing out to McCarthy.
November 6th, 2022 at 4:33 PM ^
If it’s something that gets this many comments it’s worth a board post. People are so annoying with their sentiments about what is and isn’t a board post. Just because some people don’t have thoughts on it doesn’t mean others don’t. I figured there’s not much there but when I saw the post I was curious to see what people were saying. Even if there isn’t much news it’s good to see it come up and confirm there isn’t anything.
November 6th, 2022 at 1:37 PM ^
He was dressed in street clothes on the sideline for the MSU game.
That hit he took in the UConn game really messed him up. Never did I think he would STILL be injured 7 weeks later.
November 6th, 2022 at 1:42 PM ^
Couple OL guys totally fucked up on that play. Can't remeber which 2. That's after Corum knocked a DE to the ground. 2 outta 4 rushers still got to Cade.
November 6th, 2022 at 1:43 PM ^
McCarthy earned the job, but it’s hard to deny that when McNamara entered the game against Hawaii and especially against UConn, his pass protection just broke down and he got clobbered multiple times.
That did not do him any favors whatsoever.
November 6th, 2022 at 4:03 PM ^
If it’s a separated shoulder or something similar, that can definitely linger.
November 6th, 2022 at 6:14 PM ^
It's his knee.
November 6th, 2022 at 7:04 PM ^
Street clothes? Like Huggy Bear? Maybe some goldfish in the shoes.
/s
Perfectly normal expression. I remember back in the glorious 70s some of the guys really dressed up.
November 6th, 2022 at 10:34 PM ^
Speaking of Huggy Bear, hopefully Cade's injury is not as bad as the broken leg suffered by Justin Fargas.
November 6th, 2022 at 1:40 PM ^
My guess is they want to preserve his redshirt for a transfer. So since he has played two games they will likely have him available to play for the OSU game. Probably wouldn't play before that
November 6th, 2022 at 2:02 PM ^
I believe (because of the COVID year) he's got 2 more years of eligibility after this year, so I doubt it's that.
November 6th, 2022 at 2:31 PM ^
2019: Redshirt
2020: COVID
2021: Freshman
2022: Sophomore
Exactly, AQ. Cade already used his redshirt in 2019. It doesn’t matter if he plays in zero or 15 games this season—he’ll have two years of eligibility remaining.
