In most but not all cases, you will know 12 days prior (the Monday before the Saturday before the game).
But not always. They HAVE to announce it by the Sunday before the game - there is the possibility the networks utilize a “6 day selection” for the game. They can do this a few times a year (not every week).

Be ready to copy and paste your response in 2 weeks for the MSU game time after we pound PSU.
October 2nd, 2022 at 3:40 PM ^
I’ll be at the Panthers/Rams game in 2 weeks, so I (preemptively I suppose you’d argue, I acknowledge the bait you laid for me there) won’t be here.
October 2nd, 2022 at 6:51 PM ^
Can you start a thread for the Rutgers game as well? Tia!
October 2nd, 2022 at 3:43 PM ^
So basically whenever they fucking want to.

That must be why there is no cream cheese involved in the process.

I think there is equal weight of consideration for the convenience of, and in appreciation for, the fans.
October 2nd, 2022 at 3:59 PM ^
They'll never announce it. It's a a surprise. I suggest camping out at the big house.
Start now. It'll be fun
October 2nd, 2022 at 6:35 PM ^
Hey, the long awaited MGoCamping trip!
October 2nd, 2022 at 4:07 PM ^
If they make this a noon game and State a night game I will riot
Nobody wants sparties in Ann Arbor all day and wasting a maize out on a noon kick would be pathetic
October 2nd, 2022 at 4:14 PM ^
I think MSU has played themselves into a Nooner, while our win at Iowa and PSU’s continued success makes the PSU game a night game.
October 2nd, 2022 at 4:27 PM ^
Somehow, that will get reported as "Spartans To Have A Nooner In Ann Arbor On October 29th" and no one will ever buy that paper again.
October 2nd, 2022 at 5:19 PM ^
MSU is also starting to play like they want the game on BTN also.
October 2nd, 2022 at 6:37 PM ^
....more like on HGTV.
October 2nd, 2022 at 7:18 PM ^
It'll be a top 10 match up since psu just got a bump in the ap poll. Night game would be appropriate.
October 2nd, 2022 at 4:21 PM ^
It will most likely be a noon or 3:30pm game which is a bummer. Would like to have this game be a premier night game for us.
There is a USC vs. Utah game that Fox has booked for 7:30pm ET that weekend. Alabama vs. Tennessee will most likely be 3:30pm.
Fox gets first pick every weekend and we are the premier matchup for both the B1G and Big 12 conferences that weekend.
My guess is -
Michigan vs. Penn State @ Noon or 3:30pm / Alabama vs. Tennessee at Noon or 3:30pm.
Utah vs. USC - 7:30pm ET (locked in already)
October 2nd, 2022 at 5:20 PM ^
This is not correct. FOX does not have the first pick each weekend. FOX and ESPN have split the Big Ten rights. FOX does get a bigger share, but ESPN gets theirs as well. As someone posted above that was covered in a piece in the Athletic, FOX and ESPN have a draft where they select games and weekends where they get the first pick I believe. Many of these picks have been similar each year for big games; Michigan-MSU has been on FOX for four straight years, and Michigan-PSU has been on ABC/ESPN for four straight years.
One unusual quirk about this year is that the ND-OSU game was in the Big Ten inventory so that may have caused a ripple effect for where certain games landed. I have a feeling the networks for the PSU and MSU games may be flipped because of it.

"A lot of milk spilled out onto the concourse outside Michigan Stadium this afternoon, screaming epithets at network and university personnel as they arrived to set up for the mid-day broadcast of the Michigan-MSU football football game. Damage from the melee was estimated as high as thirty dollars as a shaved ice stand was turned over by police wrestling with the rioter. One arrest was made as back-up units at Stadium and Packard were called to the scene. . ."

Prepare to riot.
October 3rd, 2022 at 10:37 AM ^
We have only had one actual successful Maize Out ever, and it was warm when that happened. If UM/PSU happens at night when it's cold, the boomers won't wear maize and it won't be a good Maize Out. I want it at noon!
October 2nd, 2022 at 4:14 PM ^
Am I crazy? It's at noon. Wasn't it already announced as the BIG Noon game that week?
October 2nd, 2022 at 4:19 PM ^
If Big Noon takes Michigan-Indiana over Red River and OSU-MSU, I can’t see them not taking a Top-10 matchup
October 2nd, 2022 at 5:18 PM ^
Pregame usher meeting at Maryland we were told PSU at noon.
October 2nd, 2022 at 7:42 PM ^
That seems as good of confirmation as you could ask for outside of making it official.
October 2nd, 2022 at 9:04 PM ^
It's definitely the Big Noon game (not sure if officially announced but Joel Klatt let it slip in a video he did) but apparently there is some precedent that the Big Noon game doesn't have to kickoff at noon.
That said...........it'll be noon, with MSU the night game.
October 2nd, 2022 at 4:18 PM ^
My wife and I got free tickets to the penn state game, but the only way we can go is if it is a noon game. We have been anxiously waiting for the announcement for a while now.
October 2nd, 2022 at 4:44 PM ^
If it’s not then I’ll buy them. I had tix and sold them because I’ve been doing a lot of business in Florida. The hurricane kicked me back home till next month.
October 2nd, 2022 at 6:31 PM ^
We'll probably know in about 18 hours.
October 2nd, 2022 at 6:54 PM ^
It would be nice to have a maize out night game! Last year I thought our game against PSU was going to be a whiteout night game. So, the networks will probably save PSU playing us at night. Bummer!
October 2nd, 2022 at 8:03 PM ^
I feel like I’m losing it but wasn’t it posted somewhere that it was almost a certainty the psu game will be noon game?
October 3rd, 2022 at 9:34 AM ^
Yeah, there have been a lot of anecdotes from FOX CFB personalities that have said as much without outright stating it. I'm kind of bummed, was hoping for a night game for PSU. At this point, scheduling MSU game at night seems rather pointless. They're going to be no better than 3-4 coming into that one.

Somewhat Off-Topic: The hockey team plays currently 12th-ranked Boston University at 5:00 PM at Yost on October 15. Would that have any bearing on whether the Penn State football game would be scheduled for noon or 3:30 that day?
For those who follow college hockey, BU won their regular-season opener last night against Bentley and they looked pretty good against a lower-rung team from the AHA. They have an exhibition against Canadian University of Waterloo next weekend, so their two games at Yost will be their first real tests of the season. In February, BU's goalie, Drew Commesso became the youngest goalie ever to start for the USA in the Olympics.
October 2nd, 2022 at 8:35 PM ^
I believe the BU hockey times are 7:00 pm on the Friday the 14th and 5:00p on Sunday the 16th.
October 2nd, 2022 at 8:43 PM ^
Michigan is trying to schedule this game for Fox Noon so that Charles can participate in the celebration for the 25th Anniversary of the 1997 National Championship.
More than likely it will be a noon game.
October 3rd, 2022 at 8:57 AM ^
Would an evening game prevent Charles from joining any celebration? I'm sure he could arrange a private flight to get "where he needs to be" - for NFL Pre-Game on Sunday morning.
October 3rd, 2022 at 12:08 AM ^
I love a noon kickoff, but I wouldn’t hate a 3:30 or 4 for once! Feels like we haven’t had a home game in that slot in quite a while.
October 3rd, 2022 at 9:04 AM ^
I have no insight to the time of this game - but, I will share my perspective.
Maize outs are great - and, the Washington game last year was one example.
Night games in Ann Arbor can be fantastic - again, both Washington last year - and Hawaii this season. However, night games in November can be chilly.
So - what is my recommendation. First - for the Spartans - I'd prefer either noon or 3:30 - that's Halloween weekend - and, I'm sure there are going to be plenty of "theme" parties around a college town like Ann Arbor to enjoy the occasion.
Second - Michigan has dealt with more White-Outs in State College, Pa than I can count. It's time for the opportunity to "return the favor". October, especially mid-October, would afford "better" evening / night weather. The temperatures will, most likely, be cooler - but, very manageable - with game time temps most likely in the 50's or mid / high 40's. And, an evening game - a Maize Out - would provide an opportunity for recruiting prospects / targets - to visit campus - and take in the environment.
Perhaps - or hopefully - we'll know later today.
