What a lovely read, and…

What a lovely read, and update.  Got dusty in here for sure.

Cheers, Ace.  All the best.

OK, settle down, Mel Tucker

Will also highly depend on…

Will also highly depend on matchup.  Michigan vs. a Pac-12 team will be a hot ticket.  GA vs. FSU (for example), less so.

One small nugget: I assume…

One small nugget: I assume we'd be the home team as the higher seed.  You can prob find home/away section info on the interwebs.

The only quibble I'd make to…

The only quibble I'd make to your summary is that his knee initially touched the ground *at* the goal line (not several feet into the end zone), but I believe the ball had broken the plane at that moment, so that difference is inconsequential to the call.

(UPDATE:  Others beat me to the punch on this point.  Apologies for the duplicate.)

We tied the all time record…

We tied the all time record of number of times in a row we scored 30+ and held the opponent to 7 or less to start the season.  Would have set a new record if they didn't get their prayer answered on that TD.

Are you under the impression…

Are you under the impression there is a single Michigan fan that doesn't feel this way?  The point is to be prepared/educated for the contingencies.

FWIW, it was sold on MDen…

FWIW, it was sold on MDen but sold out immediately.

FWIW, the Jordan tech gear…

FWIW, the Jordan tech gear did "make it" to MDen....but sold out immediately.

MDen actually oversold the product - I was one who believed I got one and then was later notified they did not have the inventory to meet the order - but gave $50 gift cards to those in that situation, which I thought was honestly great customer service.

No idea why Nike produced so few though.

It's definitely the Big Noon…

It's definitely the Big Noon game (not sure if officially announced but Joel Klatt let it slip in a video he did) but apparently there is some precedent that the Big Noon game doesn't have to kickoff at noon.

That said...........it'll be noon, with MSU the night game.

Disagree on less relevance…

Disagree on less relevance because of a larger playoff.  Now if you're ranked ~7-15, your games at the end of the season matter so much more.  And 1-10 is playing for byes and home field.  So many more games are going to matter more with expanded playoffs.

Is not 42-27 the "prove it"…

Is not 42-27 the "prove it" part?  They literally proved it, 42-27.

Who are you calling "vibes"?…

Who are you calling "vibes"?

Definitely more specific…

Definitely more specific than the concept of the general Michigan money cannon.

The problem that will remain, though, is we're still not going to guarantee it, so we're going to be at a disadvantage.

The evidence is not…

The evidence is not publicized and/or it's not here yet but I trust it's on the way.  We are getting creamed in the PR war for sure and that's an issue.

And on the other things not equal..... an NFL system, coaching proven to put guys in the NFL, weight room, stadium, opportunities in sports avail to alumni (think Desmond Howard or Jalen Rose), etc.  That's just football stuff.  Plus other intangibles that matter to some and not others.

Our guys are making a lot of…

Our guys are making a lot of money in NIL right now, we just don't publicize numbers.  And a lot more is on the way.  Staggering numbers.  I know that's easy to be skeptical of right now so I'm not asking you to believe me.

This isn't really an…

This isn't really an accurate assessment though.

I'd compare it more to commission vs. salary.  You can earn more (even a lot more) at Company A but those higher amounts are on commission - you have to earn it in the future.  It's not so much about paying dues and getting opportunities later.  Company B pays you in a higher guaranteed base salary, and with a signing bonus.  I'm also not sure on what you're basing a difference in laying out a clear plan for advancement, I don't see any evidence of that.

Also, the other things you allude to aren't equal, though we certainly shouldn't rest on those laurels because overall, that prospective vs. guaranteed element is killing us right now.

I'm not a Warde fan per se,…

I'm not a Warde fan per se, but if you think this is a Warde decision, then you're not deeply educated on how the university works.

I'm gonna guess it's because…

I'm gonna guess it's because they have Collier higher on the board and want to see that through first.  Perhaps they think they can still close on Jackson in that scenario.  If that does come to pass, I sure hope they're right.

I appreciate the mailbag…

I appreciate the mailbag....definitely some light and fun summer content.

The idea, however, that a men's basketball national championship is "not too hard" is patently absurd.  Just had to say that.

(Though while I'm here, Dug spells his name with one "g").

I would note that some of T…

I would note that some of T Will's minutes at the end of the game came in place of Moussa.  It doesn't have to be just a "Caleb or T Will" question.  Obv depends on matchups and form, but at least gives more options.

Not liking a certain kind of…

Not liking (or not having heard of) a certain person or kind of music absolutely doesn't make someone wrong.

Saying that someone doesn't belong up there, that they're not good (with an objective tone lacking in subjectivity or humility), that they've "never heard of someone" (or "only heard his name") for someone that is so highly acclaimed comes off as telling on yourself more than any reasonable critique of the artist.

(and to be clear, I'm not talking to you directly, just an assortment of the negative feedback I've seen both here and other forums)

Kendrick also has THIRTEEN Grammys.  So he's not just "popular".  You can debate whether Grammys = good, but this isn't a situation where it's just the unwashed masses that appreciate his talent.

You're getting that confused with Madden

You specifically have to…

You specifically have to have won said championship while wearing their apparel.  We don't have gold despite winning in '89 because we weren't Nike sponsored yet.

And to think we did it all…

And to think we did it all without the #2 "key" player on the team for 95% of the season.

Pretty, pretty, pretty good.

That's because the model is…

That's because the model is so good that it closely correlates to Vegas.  That's a sign of the model's strength.

In your latter scenario, I…

In your latter scenario, I would have expected that to mean we would play Duke (especially with the Fab Five (Juwan) / farewell tour angle).

I think it's meant to match up this year's expected (as opposed to last year's actual) conference finish while balancing things like participation over time, alternating home/away sites, etc.

The stated rules give the…

The stated rules give the Rose Bowl committee discretion to pick a lower ranked team if they are in a "cluster" near each other, but the head has stated they intend to pick the highest rated team full stop.

My understanding is that it…

My understanding is that it's not "November" when both teams must agree to a night game, but games starting in week 9 (or 10 or 11 or whatever this is), and that just usually aligns with November, but is a week later this year.

So, in other words, Michigan always had veto power over a night game against Penn State, so this theory, while thoughtful, wouldn't hold water.

Missed this the last couple…

Missed this the last couple weeks (which is only meant as a compliment that I appreciate your work on these, obv you don't owe us anything).  Thanks!

Thank you for everything,…

Thank you for everything, Brian, and all the best to you and your family.

Open question:  Should MDen…

Open question:  Should MDen autograph signings count, or are you only tracking ongoing opportunities for support?

True...but in this case,…

True...but in this case, Livers went from out of people's mocks to pretty solidly in the mid-second round across multiple mocks.  So in this case, it seems to be supported by external evidence.

Coincidence?  I think not.

Thanks, Matt.  I was…

Thanks, Matt.  I was definitely assuming a class of more like 4-5.  Given your breakdown ("1 true big, 1 true wing-forward, 1 playmaking guard"), would Jett be a wing-forward (thus potentially taking guys like Casey, Glenn, Walker off the table), or would he be a playmaking guard (thus taking guys like Dug or Trimble off the table) in a 3 person class?

If you want to call yourself…

If you want to call yourself a Michigan fan, you should study up on Michigan history.  Even per the official NCAA report, Michigan's sanctions were due to Chris Webber receiving illegal benefits (i.e. he was ineligible) but explicitly not in a pay for play scenario to attend Michigan (i.e. he received those benefits for his own future earnings potential, not to go to Michigan).  It is well known that Ed Martin was also providing benefits to athletes that attended Minnesota, Michigan State, Syracuse, and other schools.  Also, no other Fab Five members were implicated in the report.  And, mind you, this is a report that was made with the full cooperation of the university and the subpoena power of the FBI as part of Ed Martin's prosecution...this isn't the NCAA being unable to prove that money changed hands because the university stonewalled and nobody left a paper trail like is typical today.

Juwan's worn a bunch of cool…

Juwan's worn a bunch of cool sh!t this year that hasn't been available to the general public.  The two that caught my eye (that I'd buy if available) were a sweet non-zip non-fleece hoodie he wore earlier in the season and that Jordan brand maize quarter zip he wore in the tournament.

I hope Nike releases some of this stuff but it's def good to be king.

For what it's worth, Kenpom…

For what it's worth, Kenpom made an adjustment to his metrics this year and the Big Ten is no longer the Best Conference Ever, even with an asterisk.

Weren't we underdogs against…

Weren't we underdogs against Notre Dame last year?

It was Steve Wiltfong, not…

It was Steve Wiltfong, not Steve Lorenz, which is an important distinction, as Wiltfong's tend to be more based on who's leading at the moment than something more definitive.

No, and I have no idea what…

No, and I have no idea what you're referring to.  On a completely unrelated note, one of our small handful of top targets for the second TE spot in the '22 class, crystal balled by Sam Webb today, is from a town called Cumming (also in Georgia).

Fun fact...Game 2 was the…

Fun fact...Game 2 was the first time the Rockets shot 40% from 3 and lost all season.  They were 16-0 prior to that.

Then it happened again in Game 3.

If they only shot 40% 18 times all year, you have to assume they just took their best shots against LA and lost, and that a clunker or two is coming.
