Michigan Monday is up
The headline: Michigan Monday: McCarthy Accuses Wolverines Of Being Title Contenders
Gerdeman concludes:
For the first time in a long time, I think this is a Michigan team that can do…something. And I say that realizing last year’s team made the playoffs.
Offensively, they are no longer limited by the quarterback. And prior to last season, they were limited by the QB and the offensive line.
This offense is now simply limited by what the coaches can implement. I’m not saying they can’t be stopped or that they are one of the nation’s best. I’m saying that these guys can do whatever the coaches can come up with, so it’s on the coaches to set their sights high.

Nailed it. After pointing out M paid UCLA to cancel that game and then paid Hawaii to schedule this game:
"This wasn’t a scrimmage. This was closer to rich people paying large sums of money to hunt humans."
September 12th, 2022 at 10:58 PM ^
I don't wanna be that guy but I am going to be. Maybe not the best analogy considering the opponent.
September 13th, 2022 at 10:10 AM ^
So, after playing Georgia in the Orange Bowl, McCarthy will soon have to get used to the speed of the Iowa defense? That makes sense.
September 12th, 2022 at 5:59 PM ^
I'd never known about this column until someone else posted it recently, and you today. Much appreciated. I was totally unaware of the existence of the semi-clever Buckeye. Fascinating because we know for sure this man can read and write, which outpaces 95% of other Thee OSU grads. Maybe he hired a tutor from like, Lambertville or something.
September 12th, 2022 at 10:28 PM ^
I am sure had a tutor who is a UM grad. He won't tell us.
September 12th, 2022 at 11:14 PM ^
"semi clever buckeye"
Gerdeman was a colossally insufferable apologist through the various Ohio State scandals and issues of the past decade. That he now has to acknowledge some change in the rivalry has to be a bit unsettling for both he and their miscreant fanbase.
September 13th, 2022 at 10:11 AM ^
Agree, he doesn't seem nearly as funny now that UM looks like a buzzsaw and the jokes don't write themselves any longer.
September 13th, 2022 at 7:02 AM ^
"semi-clever Buckeye"
You got that right, Mr. In Space. Though MM has a few good lines, it's mostly straightforward analysis with many attempts to add comic-like sentences. That is, they're shaped the way jokes are but without being, y'know, actually funny.
I'm a little surprised others have praised his humor (sic) considering that MGoBlog repeatedly gives us examples of actual, y'know, funny.
September 13th, 2022 at 11:25 AM ^
Lambertville? My sort-of home town? How did you come up with that little place???
September 13th, 2022 at 1:01 PM ^
Ha, just picked a random town on the Michigan side of the Ohio border, since the moment you cross over the IQ points double.
September 12th, 2022 at 6:05 PM ^
Ok, but...
I have invoked this clause because this year’s edition of the University of Hawai’i football team is the worst team to play a game in Michigan Stadium since the Wolverines played seven games there in 2008.
Fuck that Buckeye.
September 12th, 2022 at 6:09 PM ^
I mean, he is the enemy, he’s gonna take his digs.
September 12th, 2022 at 6:23 PM ^
And it was pretty funny.
Don't get me wrong, all the bad feelings came back, but you have to be able to laugh some of the misery off over time.
September 12th, 2022 at 8:04 PM ^
I have an employee who is an A&M grad. Saturday was her version of The Horror. It was nice to be the one saying "It gets better."
September 13th, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
If you're gonna finish every season 8-4, does it really matter how you get there? Just enjoy the journey on the way
September 13th, 2022 at 12:23 PM ^
Well eventually. But really it got worse that season. That loss versus OSU is still the most miserable game in my memory, in part because I was there. Then rich rod came in.
September 12th, 2022 at 8:03 PM ^
i’m sorry, but that’s a great line.
September 12th, 2022 at 8:42 PM ^
I mean, come on. I lol’d at that one.
September 12th, 2022 at 9:50 PM ^
Nice line, Dick!
Also not far off the mark....oof.
September 12th, 2022 at 11:41 PM ^
I LOL'd; that was a quality line.
FWIW, I saw the Manchester United v. Real Madrid match in 2014, and whenever it comes up, I mention that was the best football played in the Big House that year.
September 12th, 2022 at 6:06 PM ^
"...this year’s edition of the University of Hawai’i football team is the worst team to play a game in Michigan Stadium since the Wolverines played seven games there in 2008."
It's not wrong, but did he see the 2020 Wolverines?
September 12th, 2022 at 6:24 PM ^
No, they did not.
September 12th, 2022 at 6:34 PM ^
I think they forgot what Dan Villari did to them. Hypothetically speaking
September 13th, 2022 at 6:46 AM ^
The 2020 season, while not good, was abbreviated by a pandemic and encumbered by public health restrictions, so in my mind, it is difficult to know what we could have done under what we might consider "normal" football conditions. 2008 would be considered a season played under otherwise "normal" conditions - typical fall weather, typical amount of practice / prep, etc... - and we blew. To me, it's a difficult comparison to even attempt.
September 12th, 2022 at 6:27 PM ^
It feels dirty looking forward to this coming out every week.
September 12th, 2022 at 6:30 PM ^
Pretty impressed by this writer and his observations. Well written and insightful
September 12th, 2022 at 6:29 PM ^
Is this guy a buckeye?
September 12th, 2022 at 6:30 PM ^
I have a funny story to tell when I have enough to post
September 12th, 2022 at 6:46 PM ^
You're probably better off posting it here and getting a bunch of upvotes rather than getting plowed on your 1st post.
September 12th, 2022 at 8:03 PM ^
don’t we all.
September 12th, 2022 at 8:32 PM ^
Me too.
Oh, haven’t you heard? They raised the point threshold for funny, first threads to 180,000.
September 12th, 2022 at 9:36 PM ^
...almost there!
September 13th, 2022 at 12:42 AM ^
An old timer like you only has 108 points? That is impressive, almost monk-level celibacy.
September 13th, 2022 at 11:05 AM ^
Here's an upvote, please don't make me regret it with your first post :)
September 12th, 2022 at 6:41 PM ^
Exactly how I've felt all along. If I'm an opponent (and somehow had a choice) I'm facing Cade instead of JJ. And it isn't close. There's no version of this Michigan roster that is more dangerous than the version with JJ at QB and playing well. Does that mean he will play well? -- no. But why would you not push for the best version of your team?
September 12th, 2022 at 7:18 PM ^
Gerdeman’s starting to get more snarky. They’re scared.
September 13th, 2022 at 1:24 AM ^
This has always been his tell. The more complimentary, patronizing he is the worse we are. The snarkier he is the better we actually are.
September 13th, 2022 at 11:21 AM ^
I think your Buckeyes with >2 brain cells are a little concerned that Ryan Day is in over his head and he's just driving Urban's car till the wheels fall off. The recruiting is going to keep them at a high (10+ win) level for the foreseeable future, but is it enough to stave off an apparently rising Michigan and/or stay a serious national title contender? The next 1-3 years will have a lot of eyes on Ryan "Born on 3rd Base" Day
September 12th, 2022 at 7:41 PM ^
If you want to watch Tony discuss it with his buckeye sidekick
September 13th, 2022 at 2:30 PM ^
His sidekick looks like the human manifestation of an actual buckeye nut.
September 12th, 2022 at 7:52 PM ^
We're at this dangerous point in the season where all Michigan has been given are opportunities to fuck up, and so far Michigan hasn't taken (m)any of them. That's good, but I'm wary of it. Also wary of Buckeye praise.
September 12th, 2022 at 8:24 PM ^
Interesting, reasonable take. Like the sound of this coming from Gerdeman.
September 12th, 2022 at 9:09 PM ^
No thanks.
September 12th, 2022 at 9:18 PM ^
CNt understand why he no longer denotes our rivalry game
September 12th, 2022 at 9:25 PM ^
Just finally watched the game. This review is pretty fair, but I'm sorry the commentators were terrible lol. I know it was Butt first time, but wow they both were awful
September 12th, 2022 at 10:02 PM ^
Okay that was pretty funny. The Rich people paying large sums of money to hunt humans line was right spot on.
September 13th, 2022 at 12:43 AM ^
My Dad and I liked Jake Butt's commentary a lot.
September 13th, 2022 at 3:08 AM ^
I think you meant to put the apostrophe after Jake. But yes, Butt is very likeable.
