Aymeric Koumba Has Committed to Michigan
The Michigan Wolverines have added another piece to their 2023 recruiting class as a busy July rolls along, and for the third straight time, it's an edge! Today it's French prospect Aymeric Koumba:
BREAKING: #GoBlue adds commitment from French edge prospect Aymeric Koumba; verified 7'1" wingspan: https://t.co/kbTmwq4T2R pic.twitter.com/ehiJdbaHRD

Not much is known about Koumba at this time, given that he lives and trains in France, but since DL coach Mike Elston discovered Koumba recently, the Wolverines were pushing hard. Elston saw Koumba at a camp in June and then pressed to get Koumba in the class before anyone else could find out about him. As you may guess, Koumba does not have a recruiting ranking right now given his residence overseas, but we do know about his good size, gargantuan wingspan, and rumors of plus-athleticism. One week after adding Collins Acheampong to the class, Elston has nabbed another high upside international edge, furthering his goal of recruiting an army of pterodactyls to play the edge position.
There is no content after the jump.
They did well going across the pond for Ojabo so might as well give it a go. The wingspan is intorguing.
I believe they recruited Ojabo out of NJ, he came to the US to play basketball at first. But yeah, we've also had great success with international recruits in basketball so exciting to see it happening on the football side as well!
Can't you just picture already putting both Acheampong and Koumba on the kick blocking team. No one is going to be able to get a FG on us.
Hey, why are all these equipment managers ordering brooms?
KOUM-BA-YAH!

You just coined my cheer for the next 3 years of Mich Football.
All the Edges belong to us.
God bless Aymeric...a
Awesome! Go Blue!!
is the BBQ this weekend?
I am such a big Elston fan
Not me, give me a nice 250 lb DT who tries hard and a slow as **** 6'4 165 CB! Whew! What a time.

without my coffee kicking in, I needed the /s
Honestly the fact that this guy is unranked and completely under-the-radar almost gives me more faith in his talent, since it's not like Elston has struggled either here or at ND to pick up guys with strong rankings
Generally when coaches find a totally off the radar guy and obviously want him bad, it seems to pan out pretty well. Initial names coming to mind are St Juste, Haskins, and Ronnie Bell
As they say, “You cannot teach height, or wingspan.”
Okay, Jay Bilas.
Trust the coaches on this one and he’ll obviously redshirt so he can develop properly. Excited to have him with the good guys!!
He should wear #47 so we can call him AK-47
Eh, I'd prefer we not, and for that very reason.
Not only is that antiquated, but in today's society, nah. If nothing else, Oxford. Literally, the last time we wore our uniforms in a real game, we had a patch honoring victims of a school shooting.
So you can’t make any firearm related references without it being associated with a past school shooting?
Yes considering the number of mass shootings and everyday gun violence that we have in this country, I would stay away from any references to any firearms. I am most certainly sure that this young man from France wants no part of AK-47.
Or maybe we can be adults and separate nicknames from instances of violence.
If we didn't have a murder rate orders of magnitude higher than any other developed country I would wholeheartedly agree with you but fact is it's an ongoing crisis. Yes, 99% of us can, like the rest of humanity, easily separate nicknames and violence but . . .
At the rate we’re getting them?
. . . Yeah.
No I think we can actually. Gun references are an entirely separate thing than instances of violence. Nobody is suggesting brandishing a gun, using a gun, or committing an act of violence. It’s a freakin nickname that is the name of a type of gun.
Just because some jagoffs decide to commit acts of violence doesn’t make the name of a gun taboo.
Yooo....it's not that serious. Relax. Call him what you want.
I literally said, I'd prefer we not.
Since when is that some declaration or bold statement? You can very easily "prefer that we do." That's okay. No one is stopping you if that's YOUR preference.
Y'all tread on my rights folks are always on edge, dear lord. No one was saying half that stuff you're talking about, lol.
You may prefer that we never wear all-maize uniforms again...me? I don't really care as long as we don't make a habit of it.
You may prefer JJ McCarthy over Cade McNamara...sweet.
This wasn't a debate, nor a mandate...it was me sharing a preference. If you want to call him AK-47 or French Fry...I don't care, I'd prefer we call him neither of those things.
Y'all tread on my rights folks are always on edge, dear lord
Weird comment from someone who is against a nickname because of a completely unrelated act of violence…
Let's call him Freedom Fries!!!
This made me laugh.
I don’t think I want to read anything more from someone who says guns are unrelated to mass shootings.
The glorification of these types of weapons that are used in mass shootings by people that usually turn out to be disturbingly obssessed with these types of weapons may have a small part to play in those obsessions (which are pretty uniquely American). So seems like it might be helpful to not glorify such weapons.
lol, Jonny...that's not what I said at all.
If you thought I took it too far, you just went waaay off the deep end with that jump to conclusion.
That’s literally what you said though… you said we shouldn’t nickname him that because of Oxford and the fact that we wore a patch the last time we played…
awww c'mon, somebody post the clip!
It's a school football team and you're complaining people don't want to nickname a player after a type of gun? Someone has very obviously not been impacted by school shootings. How nice for you.
At the very least maybe you could try to be sensitive about the optics of this and not be the guy who insists we name players after weapons?
Isn’t there a popular poster called Ak47? Should we have him change his name?
Also, I was unaware that an AK47 was used in Oxford. News to me!
Yeah, if I were him I'd prefer not to be tagged with the name of a notorious weapon of mass murder myself--or hell, anything connected in the popular mind to this country's little problem with school and other shooting massacres (300 mass shootings to date this year, by one count).
But that's just me, and I'd hate to muss the beauty home permanent of any sensitive plant whom that might offend. Chacun a son gout/preference.
But maybe his initials are AK and he was born in 1947.
Do the context and intent of words mean anything anymore?
Less. I blame it on whoever started subbing in ks for cs in words like kountry and klub. Something slightly sinister about it.
I believe that number has been retired by UM.
I think we should call him The French Deflection.
OT, I think he looks a little like Manny Ramirez.
Possible doppelganger.
I wonder if this guy helped with his recruitment?
You need to change your name dude. There are real killers in the world.
Did you forget the /s in your post? I hope you did at least.
Cmon man. Just following along.
Thank you Santa.
