Not so fast my friend. Maybe the door isn't closed on Sebastián Cheeks just yet
Looks like Cheeks took a dead period visit in his own before making his decision this week. Sherrone Moore putting in work. Is this guy way more valuable than we thought?
You can't fool me.
OK, Russian Olympic Committee.
ROASTED! :D
While taking another visit on his own dime is a positive sign, I’m still not getting my hopes up until he is in the student directory and has his dorm room assigned. Wait, his name isn’t Najee is it?
And how, exactly, are we going to get that information without WD??
By tweeting at him, of course.
You can fool me once...
I'll put this under here, because I don't really think it deserves its own thread, but apparently the players since a change in Harbaugh also.
So after all this time Harbaugh really wants to win now?
Harbaugh may have been going through some personal problems, maybe even depression. I know that I changed as I got older to the point where things that never bothered me when I was younger began to make me feel lousy. It's really hard when you can't stop thinking about things that bother you while you have an important job to do. I was a teacher, and some days I just mailed it in. I'm glad he seems happier.
I won't get into the details, but there has been some stuff going on with Harbaugh over the past year or so. I don't know how much of an effect it has had on his demeanor, his coaching, etc., and I'm sure many (if not most) will say that Harbaugh's position and pay mean that he should be coaching at 100%, regardless.
Personal stuff, health, etc. have an effect on everyone, though. It's not on the same pay scale, but just look at this very blog, where Brian and Ace have both been prevented from contributing at various times due to personal stuff.
I’m really not surprised to hear this. As someone who has battled depression you can notice it in others sometimes, although you have to be careful of projection.
No one beats him 6 years in a row..... NOW it's serious..... These takes are ridiculous.
McNamara says so? The same kid who had the ridiculous locker room speech after beating Rutgers guaranteeing Michigan was running the table. Cool.
That's blatantly misrepresenting his speech in the locker room and also ragging on a kid who is trying his best to win and has done nothing but represent the program well.
I hate it when posters in here and twitter talk shit about the players. The players are college-aged, amatuer kids, not professionals. Talk shit all you want about the coaching staff but the kids themselves deserve non of it (unless they are engaged in bad off the field behavior).
AF is the Notre Dame homer who thinks he’s some kind of insider bc of Rocco Spindler. He only comes here to flame Michigan’s recruiting and player development. He’s probably still butt hurt bc Cade was once a ND commit.
Especially when people can pop off behind an anonymous name on a key board. Get on the coaches if you want but to rag on a kid busting his ass and trying to motivate his team??? Pathetic……
That's ugly, man. Be a better human.
I have anywhere from 45 to 14 reasons why your hot take about McNamara is disingenuous but I will let it slide.
What would you have Cade say? We suck and we’ll be losing the rest of the way? I’ve been very vocal on how disappointing a lot of aspects of Harbaugh’s teams have been.
Good on Cade for showing some fire! Harbaugh’s teams since 2017 have needed some some fire. I’m not buying into the hype for 2021 but that kid did go into a game, down a ton in an embarrassing situation played his ass off and won the game. We need more players with some attitude.
Has he figured out how to run a 2 minute drill or even not kill the team with the tempo of a real dinosaur? Like one made of rock because it's a real fossil?
Tutorial: Who is this guy? Why should I care? You have to do a little more than post a paywalled article I can't/won't read.
Article is not paywalled. Isaiah Hole has covered the Wolverines for many years. He does a podcast Locked on Wolverines along with some articles.
I guess you're referring to a OP, not the comment. My mistake.
From what I was able to gather from the post, he is a top 247 guy to 247 who plays linebacker and Michigan is recruiting him to play football for them. The post suggests it was a foregone conclusion that he would commit elsewhere, but that Michigan is in a better position than many were aware of, a credit to Sherrone Moore's recruiting prowess.
Plus 1 Jerry. Succinct. To the point. No spin.
You're to good for the bloviating masses populating this board.
It’s amazing how this blog is like the one place where people seem to be unable to use context clues or outside sources to understand articles on topics they may not be super familiar with
I think you may be onto something here.
I guess you missed this little ditty.
Live bop, feel bop, bebop. Need the all-stars for a great band
If you're going to post a photo of Dizzy Gillespie in a thread about "cheeks" you might as well post a photo of Dizzy's cheeks.
It was animating in the preview and it was awesome. It appears none of my gifs are working so I have zero to add to this board.
The cheeks aren’t closed just yet?
I hope this isn’t just a bunch of hot air blowing.
Still open despite balls dropping.
I get a sense from the article that this young man is worried about the potential of Michigan’s staff changing if the season is bad. A) just use the portal lol and B) this is what you get when your AD cuts your head coach’s salary in half and lowers the buyout to Illinois-like levels. which was an overreaction to a COVID season.
....to a COVID season AND FIVE OTHER LACKLUSTER YEARS. FIFY
10-3
10-3
8-5
10-3
9-4
that’s lackluster? At Michigan? When did Michigan become some football power and forgot to tell the rest of the world? Not many coaches are going to do better than that at Michigan in today’s current landscape.
Chipper, spot on. last season was an absolute dumpster fire but Harbaugh and Michigan have been ‘good’, which is exactly what Michigan football is.
I hate the narrative that Michigan is a football powerhouse and 10-3 in unacceptable…that IS Michigan football traditionally. People act like the internet doesn’t exist where you can go and look at the yearly record. I think a lot of people would be surprised if they actually investigated a little bit.
That may sound negative and I don’t mean for it to be. I will watch every second of every game as I do each and every year because I am a fan who loves that team win or lose.
How many good to great wins in those numbers you are throwing out? If you are fine with 8-10 wins, splitting with msu, getting smashed yearly by osu and losing bowl games that's fine. Some of us fans expect better ?♂️
This is my favorite opinion from the fan base. ‘Some of us expect better’
again, go look at the yearly record for the past 30-35 years. How many truly big wins are there? This is not a new phenomena under Harbaugh. This is Michigan football.
well, I expect my children to clean up after themselves and do their chores. Just because I expect it to happen does not make it realistic.
so sure, fire Harbaugh and hire some other can’t miss coach. Maybe he will be the guy who suddenly turns Michigan into what many of you think Michigan is as opposed to what they really are. Most likely he won’t because that is what the past 30-35 years tells me.
go look it up. I’m not embellishing the record. I’m not embellishing the timeframe. 1997 was a long time ago.
Michigan simply doesn't have the crazed football over everything attitude many schools - osu, Alabama, Texas A&M - have.
We tend to inflate how important football is to the school because we're reading and commenting on a Michigan sport specific board.
And - not to be the bearer of bad news - NIL isn't going to be any sort of equalizer. The schools mentioned above - where football is everything - have boosters and local businesses willing to spend a hell of a lot more than folk in Ann Arbor.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Michigan has so much going for it outside of sports and remains one of the better sports universities both across all sports and also specific to the big two - and Howard is looking to push that to new heights.
Someone mentioned that our record is consistent with our historical record - can't argue that point - I think a lot of us were spoiled by seeing two - three loss UM teams beat undefeated / one loss (higher ranked) OSU teams all the time growing up. But really *that* was the anomaly, not what's going on now.
Cheers.
Dotslashderek, that’s the key, beating OSU on a semi regular basis will change the perception among the fan base.
it would be interesting to see what the feeling would be with several wins against OSU but finishing with a 10-3 record?
Living in Alabama it is interesting that Auburn has its fair share of wins vs Saban/Alabama. It’s time for Harbaugh/Michigan to do the same vs OSU. I believe Michigan is much closer than the last couple of beatings suggest. I could be completely wrong, but I just have a feeling that things are very close to coming together. Fingers crossed as a fan.
You just went too far trying to make your point bama - shoulda limited it to the 2000s.
In the past 35 years Michigan had steaks of 12-3-1 vs osu & 16-6-1 vs msu
Periods of dominating the Notre Dame, Penn St & Wiscy series.
In this century, beginning with not being able to beat osu virtually at all, every other of those series has begun to tilt away from Michigan.
ND has made 2 college playoffs while Michigan has yet to make a B10 title game - which msu & psu have, not to mention wiscy multiple times in the much weaker West.
So, moral of the story - don't go back 35 years to say Michigan hasn't been competitive - it's just not accurate. I'll remind you of Brady's last game for Michigan - vs bama!
It depends on your interpretation of success. Is success beating OSU and MSU but still losing 3+ games every year? Or is competing for National Championships success? Everyone has to decide that for themselves. I’m simply pointing out that Harbaugh’s season ending totals are not out of line with who Michigan is historically.
my gut also tells me that 10-3 would be acceptable to you if they beat MSU and OSU. So my question for you would be this, would you be pleased if Michigan beat OSU and still ended up with 3-4 losses? Because to me the goal in modern college football is to compete for a berth in the CFP and not a spot in the Rose Bowl.
using Tom Brady vs Bama is a poor example as Bama has destroyed Michigan the past two times they have played. And honestly, that was 21 years ago!!
also, I never said Michigan was not competitive. I simply pointed out that people have a higher opinion of who Michigan is historically than what the results have been on the field.
Right, 21 years ago, not 35. That's all I was pointing out. You just stretched your point too far, and ended up missing the thrust of the program's narrative.
Maybe Lloyd went 10-3, but it included beating our rivals! And winning B10 titles!
That's just a damn sight different than 10-3 but losing to them. If you don't agree I just don't know what to tell you, but I'll guarantee you you're on an island there!
35 years ago Harbaugh was Michigan's QB, guaranteeing Ws in Cbus & delivering!
30 years ago Desmond won the Heisman & Michigan was in the middle of a run of making the Rose Bowl like 7 out of 10 years or the like.
24 years ago Woodson won the Heisman & Michigan was unbeaten National Champs!
We may have continued to have occasional 10-3 seasons in the 2000s, but they're not the same!
He should have beaten OSU and should have a much better record against MSU, PSU, and Wisconsin, and he should have a better record in the bowl games, and he should won the conference at least once, Yada Yada Yada. I can't wait for the season to start. Go Blue
