There aren't a lot of coaches that can take the preseason #4 ranked team all the way to the 2nd round then get their asses kicked by the preseason #19 ranked team (UNC) with such grace.

After they lost, I said that might be Izzo's last game. Figuring the same things that pushed out guys like Beilein and Nick Saban would push Tom to withdraw. But I don't think so. He really does enjoy the spotlight and the attention and I think he's more likely to go too long and be semi forced out.
They just named a FOOTBALL building after him. They won’t be forcing him out unless he does something criminal.

I wonder if whining is slowly oozing out of the basketball world, or if it just seems so as prominent whiners—Izzo, Boeheim, Kryzewski—are done or on their way out.

Tom Izzo is Jud Heathcote 2.0. Won a championship and lived off it for 25 years. Congrats on coming in 4th a couple more times, I guess.

Nah. While he is a disgusting human being (quite probably a rape enabler), strictly as a basketball coach Izzo has been quite successful, although in recent years he seems to be declining.
Jud, otoh, got lucky with Magic Johnson and was given the job for life - and then didn't win jack the rest of his career. However, he was probably a much better person than Izzo.

I mean it’s not exactly easy to win a national championship. I don’t know how many coaches are out there that won two or more nattys in 24 years but it’s gotta be a small list. It always strikes me as odd when people try to diminish a coaches record by saying they “only won 1 NC in 24 years” when we have won exactly zero in….the last 35 years.
I think Izzo will retire. He's going to turn 70 and hasn't done much the past few seasons, time to hang em up Tommy

Yeah, I think Izzo deep down will feel much more validated as a coach who won it all more than once, and I do believe him when he says he will die trying.

It's definitely been fun today reading all the posts from Sparties about how they can "hold their heads high for a great season" (translation: "Shut it, Michigan fans who aren't even saying anything, your team sucked" - always, always, ALWAYS what is on their minds first and foremost) and how they "fought to the end"...YOU WERE THE FUCKING PRESEASON #4.
The whitewashing like this was supposed to be just about as far as this team should have gone, is hilarious. I'm sure he won't, but I hope Izzo coaches another ten years, he's lost it but they'll forgive him for anything. Fine, be like the dumber Wings fans from a decade ago and demand no changes because, "Hey, our meaningless playoff streak!" even though they aren't doing shit when they get there lol.

You're 100% correct. Their basketball season would have been the equivalent if our 2023 Football team finished the season at 7-5 and played in the Music City Bowl.
The difference is that our Football team won the Natty and their team could not make it out of the first weekend.

Maybe Sharty will get lucky twice and TIzzo will get hot and heavy on the telephone with the next No-Means-No Lady, because that’s the kind of thing it will take to dislodge that stubborn barnacle from their ship’s hull.

Exactly. During their shitty football season it was "thank god for basketball season", "Izzo is finally gonna get number 2" "Most talented roster in history". Now they act like this was some sort of rebuilding year. And their stupid tourney streak is propped up by the year they were gifted the play in game and lost. I'm calling that their asterisk year.
This man would not have made it through 1 2nd half of a Michigan game this season.
Izzo is a bully. He bullies the officials and he bullies his own players because he knows they won’t fight back. There was a women’s basketball coach who was criticized for the way she was acting during games in the tournament last year. Can’t remember who it was, but Izzo does the same crap every single game and gets a pass. The Stockholm Syndrome surrounding him is beyond ridiculous. All this for a guy who has the same number of national titles as Tubby Smith or Steve Fisher.
