OT: Sunday at The Masters - discussion

Submitted by Amazinblu on April 14th, 2024 at 9:11 AM

It’s a fantastic Sunday morning in A2 - where I’m visiting my kids for a “Dad’s weekend”.  I’m enjoying my drink from Black Diesel and wondering what might happen in Augusta, Georgia this afternoon.

It seems the combination of the course and weather has created a very stern test for the golfers - with “moving day” being more of a survival test.

Scheffler will begin the round with a one stroke lead.  To me, no more than eight (8) golfers  have a chance to win - which are those at -2 or better.

Will you watch?  Who will you be cheering for?   Anything you’re hoping to see?

Enjoy!

Rooting for Max Homa I suppose followed by Morikawa and then Scheffler.  DeChambeau's holeout on 18 was ridiculous and that kept him in it.  It will be fun to see what he does, whether he catches fire or implodes.

Shipley paired with Tiger, thats alot of pressure on the young man. What weekend even after a disappointing 3rd round.  I'm rooting for Max but will be happy with Scottie or Morikawa

I've liked Homa, since a friend of mine suggested his podcast a couple of years ago. He is a great interview as well and seems to be a funny unassuming guy.

Contrary to the popular opinion, I want Bryson to make a charge to win. I come to like him and YouTube played a big role in me liking Bryson. He seems like a good guy with some quirk. He's a huge golf nerd who constantly searches for an edge.

I've been a longtime golf fan, but none of the newer generation of players has jumped out to me to become a favorite, so I'll be rooting for an exciting day and an exciting finish.

I did put a bet on Morikawa to win, but for small change. Scheffler was minus odds to win, so no go there.

I'm a Homasexual today. Let's go Max!

I also have a small bet on Colin Morikawa as well.

One of my favorite days of the year! Sunday at The Masters! Let's Go!!

So Chris you are making my argument for me in that you crowned Tiger at all.

I am not contesting that Tiger brought more into the sport at a time (HD Picture, Social Media, Coverage, etc.) that his play could be seen and enjoyed by all.  However as the relevancy bias would clearly show in hindsight and was the hill many under 40 died on was that what Tiger accomplished before his body betrayed him and his mental state was revealed was that the coronation was too soon.

Golf is played on the longest field in sports...between the ears.  How you handle the game on and off the course is where The Golden Bear remains greatest of all time over the course of a career.

Tiger is the 85 BEARS of Golf being the best to ever play but not the best of all time.

I used to ridicule people who put Jack ahead of Tiger. I thought it was just old people wanting to cling to the past. But in hindsight, Jack is the greatest. Tiger had a steep dropoff after 2008 from where he was. Whereas if you look at a Jack's career, he was metronome into his early to mid 40s. And he was still pretty darn good through his late 50s.  Runner up at the US Open in 1960. 6th at the Masters in 1998. Tiger would have to contend in the year 2035 at a major to have similar longevity.

"Now on the tee, Justin Thomas" and then silence.  Pretty much Verne's call for every golfer on 16.  He was fine in the day, but it is good he is retiring.

Heckuva toonamint so far.  Scottie is a closer, though anything can happen, I am pulling for him.   Aberg looks like a great young player.  Hats off to Jose Marie Olazabal for making the cut and finishing in the top 40, hitting woods for second shots on some par 4s.  As a senior citizen I just  have a lot of respect for that.

Pretty hard not to get caught up in the run Scheffler is on right now.  Reminds me of how dominate Tiger was in his prime.  Watching him close this out is pretty fun to watch.  Still a lot of tough holes left but he seems locked in.

University of Texas with another star golfer in Scheffler.

I don’t follow college golf, but is Texas considered pretty elite? Between him, Spieth, and some others of late, they have had some real talent come through.
