That was funny. U guys are…

That was funny. U guys are taking this stuff too personally

Should've been giving player…

Should've been giving player's their own cars a long time ago

But it's worked for Bama,…

But it's worked for Bama, Clemson and OSU for the last decade so chances are it's more Jimbo being washed up than up front money not working

Numbers crunch doesn't…

Numbers crunch doesn't really make sense. We were ready to sign 3 guys who went elsewhere yesterday to Iowa and Kentucky. Got to be something else.

Harbaugh literally stargazes…

Harbaugh literally stargazes lmao

Media hype. Nobody knows…

Media hype. Nobody knows those players outside of the Michigan fanbase. But everybody knows Chase Young, Myles Garett and the Bosas. You don't need to work hard when you have a star player at the position in the NFL. Aidan could get to that level though.

Good signing day in Feb is…

Good signing day in Feb is way more exciting

Media only started talking…

Media only started talking positively about us 3 weeks ago after win against OSU. It's not like we came into the season hyped like Georgia.

So even though we have the same record as Georgia, them being #1 the entire season helped way more.

Fans see Hassan Haskins and…

Fans see Hassan Haskins and forget that every other position is chock full of 4-stars, including the OL that he runs behind.

Most of our best players are highly rated guys. Aidan, Jabrill, Jourdan were all top 100 players coming out of high school. Cade, Ojabo, Corum all had higher recruiting rankings than Mac Jones.

As an alum I would love if…

As an alum I would love if they made transferring easier!

USC/Miami/Florida getting…

USC/Miami/Florida getting good coaches is also bad for us. We've gotten some great players out of both California and Florida recently. Devin Bush probably stays home if Miami is any good. We've had no shortage of CA 4-stars either.

Big reach. Saban's first 2…

Big reach. Saban's first 2 rings were built off top 3-10 classes, didn't have a #1 class until his third ring. Lost most of his starters to the draft last year, and is still the best team in the country. Loses coordinators left and right but never has issues finding better ones.

LSU, Texas, Ohio State, Georgia and USC have had similar stretches of elite recruiting during the previous decade. None have replicated the success of Alabama or even been close.

Yea, no. 247 bought Scout…

Yea, no. 247 bought Scout. Then poached the best guys from ESPN. All our best players are highly rated guys and recruiting rankings are about as accurate as they've ever been. Insane hit rate for 5* that make the league since around 2015.

I don't get how you guys see…

I don't get how you guys see the same mistakes made every year since 2016 and blame the refs. Same exact issues, and it's somehow the refs fault. Stuff like receivers dropping passes, bad playcalling, giving up leads, choking away big games, not playing as "hard" as MSU almost every year.

Everything that happened today happened in in 2016 against FSU OSU Iowa basically to a T.

He will play in the NFL…

He will play in the NFL. Insanely solid.

DPJ didn't have a dedicated…

DPJ didn't have a dedicated position coach 2/3 years at his time in Michigan, so why are people acting like it was his fault? Clearly had the talent, but Harbaugh has an awful track record of developing WRs and skill position players in general so it's not surprising he didn't get any coaching here.

The criticism stems from the…

The criticism stems from the fact that all these draft picks don't translate to wins on our schedule. We have talented players who get drafted but our wins on the schedule don't correlate. Not sure why this is hard to understand.

Nobody is saying we have a drafting problem. Nobody is complaining about Kwity Paye being a 3-star and everyone loved his tape when he was recruited.

How is winning 9 games an…

How is winning 9 games an achievement when you have 10 players drafted that year and 8 the year after? 18 NFL players and can't beat Wisconsin.

GREAT PICK

GREAT PICK

Our issue is more talent…

Our issue is more talent development that actual recruiting. But if this means our recruit evaluation is better and that less high 4s and 5s bust/transfer.. I'm all for it

Majority of the kids are Ann…

Majority of the kids are Ann Arbor locals or the top Oakland County public schools. Also a handful from the private schools put together like DCDS, Brother Rice, Cranbrook.

Looking back it's crazy how much an advantage these Oakland County schools have.. I went to one of the feeder schools listed and we had 100+ admitted out of a class of 500 and like 80ish attended. Thankful for that

A strange lack of awareness…

A strange lack of awareness with your post, as the "livid" fanbase is basically the same as Alabama, Georgia, and OSUs after a loss or bad news. Honestly their fanbases are worse. Yet they have no issues winning, bringing in top players, and retaining their players.

Blaming negative fans over a coaches inability to execute on gameday for a programs' losses is beyond pathetic

Only not possible due to…

Only not possible due to boomer thinking ie thinking paying players is inherently immoral, which makes up most of the board/leadership at UM. Breaking the rules and inherently bad are two different things.

Any variation of "bUt tHeY gEt A fReE eDuCaTiOn" shows an absolute lack of awareness on what these kids bring to the table in terms of revenue and value for the school.

And miss me with the UM can't be a football factory and be an academic institution at the same time. More outdated boomer thinking. So paying players would result in Ross rankings and job placements to tank? Google and Apple are suddenly going to stop hiring CS kids because we pay football players? This is some kind of weird cope I read a lot, that makes no sense.

Would way rather go the OSU…

Would way rather go the OSU/Clemson/Alabama route because it gives the kids in the football program a much higher chance of success in the NFL, which is what a program should be about.

Stop conflating a student's "comprehensive experience" with that of an athlete. Completely different things and distracting athletes with schoolwork is beyond stupid, beating a dead horse at this point

Stated vs revealed…

Stated vs revealed preferences.

Yea some kids care about academics. The good majority of top 100 recruits want a direct line to the NFL, and the less academics the better.  Of course they're gonna play lip service and say "academics matter", a teenager isn't going to say he doesn't want to play school, but that's what the majority are thinking.

This Lions staff is the real…

This Lions staff is the real deal. Great hires at coordinator positions, great hires in the FO.

Now an incredible trade for an aging QB. The momentum is real and I'm excited to see what they can do this season.

Great pitch. Wish Michigan…

Great pitch. Wish Michigan would learn something from this. Only Boomers think kids care about academics in 2021.

Please spare me the "well if NFL doesn't work out" BS. If a kid played D1 varsity football, they're getting a job regardless of what college they went to.

Yes, and the guy who built…

Yes, and the guy who built much of Kansas City's super bowl winning roster. Drafted guys like Pat Mahomes, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce.

He has his own issues (nobody's perfect) but talent scouting is NOT one of them.

How far we've fallen from…

How far we've fallen from our 2000s sports teams

2004 pistons

2006 tigers

2000s red wings

2000s Michigan football

2000s MSU basketball (I know it's a sin to say anything good about MSU but I will always cheer for the home state team)

Most of our teams were competing for titles and championships back then, sad to see how far they've fallen

This is by all accounts a…

This is by all accounts a good hire. Time and time again we wanted Harbaugh to fill the recruiting staff with young, hungry recruiters, guys like Chris Partridge. And he did just that. Very hard to have a staff full of developers and recruiters, at some point you have to give one up for the other.

We basically gave up all our old NFL-legacy guys for recruiters, which I'm all for. Hart, Moore, Bellamy, Gattis, Linguist and Harbaugh (Jay).. that's low key spectacular.

Hoping this works out and this becomes the permanent hiring model going forward.

Only on mgoblog is playing…

Only on mgoblog is playing in 2 college football appearances back-to-back "going out like a loser"

He was a good coach and the only reason Harbaugh ever had a real shot to win the B1G. After he left our DL play went off a cliff and Harbs-coached teams have never been quite the same

Not just you.

We have a…

Not just you.

We have a significantly higher % of our top recruits transfer. From 2016-2018 over half of our top 200 recruits transferred. And something like 40% of our top 100 recruits from 2016-2018 transferred.

It's bad, and something that most people don't want to address. Because if they can lump the low 3 stars that transferred from Bama and OSU, and show that we're "about average" compared to the nation, then that means half of our best recruits transferring is somehow "not a problem".

Love the "staff is great and…

Love the "staff is great and using players correctly crowd" when it's clear Michigan is basically a black hole for offensive skill position players.

Glad we can all come…

Glad we can all come together for once and agree that we should've been given an F.

Yes, referring to recruiting…

Yes, referring to recruiting but was referring to Stroud and McCord (their 2021 signee). For some reason I thought McCord was already on campus. Both have better tapes than JT and will be developed by a better QB coach. Day has now coached Burrows, Haskins and Fields.. and has a 5 star in McCord to play with.

With the exception of their secondary, OSU in 2021 will better at every position compared to 2016-17, where they went 11-2 and 12-2. So where is this drop off going to occur? You're hoping for a 13-1 type season for them and at worse 12-2.

Next year will be illuminating in the sense that Day proves that he's not a fluke and that OSU is only going to get better. Betting they have a huge drop off because of one loss to arguably one of Alabama's best teams is a leap of faith imo.

Ryan Day has already made…

Ryan Day has already made more playoffs and beat Clemson more times than Meyer. He made some mistakes but nothing indicates that he's going to drop off. They had the number 2 class in 2018 and number 5 class in 2020. 2019 they landed 3 five stars in a small class. Again, this is a guy in his SECOND year of coaching.

If anything, his recruiting has been better than Meyer's first few seasons, and has much better QBs. Both QBs on the roster are better than JT Barrett by a country mile.

As crazy as it sounds, OSU is still improving as a program. The success of Thomas, Zeke and Bosa in the NFL did wonders for their recruiting. The majority of the OSU first round picks from 2016-2018 became stars their first season, which is basically unheard of.

Michigan will comfortable…

Michigan will comfortable beat expectations next season. No way Harbaugh goes into any game feeling as comfortable as the past few seasons. We probably win 9 games which is solid for a turnaround.

In 2017, both Alabama and…

In 2017, both Alabama and Michigan had great WR classes. Both had one composite 5 star and three high 4 star players.

What happened?

Bama had 3 out of 4 players drafted in the first round. Their lowest rated recruited transferred. Michigan had 3 out of 4 players transfer. Their highest rated player was drafted in the 6th round.

Really speaks volumes about difference in player development between the two schools.

MICHIGAN is supposed to be…

MICHIGAN is supposed to be one of those football factories. Stop hoping for the NCAA to save us.

We're literally better than UGA, ND and UF, all schools that've achieved more than us recently. We just don't expense the same amount of "resources" to win as them, even though we objectively have more said "resources".

These dudes saw Day lose to…

These dudes saw Day lose to one the greatest college football dynasty of all time tonight, and suddenly think he hasn't "proven anything". Delusional

"Keep an open mind" but only…

"Keep an open mind" but only for coordinator choices made by Harbaugh. Where's that mindset when evaluating head coaches? "Matt Campbell Luke Fickell Todd Hafley could never be better than Harbaugh" type guys.

”Is this the best we can do?!”

”But he’s never coached at a big school!”

”We don’t know if he'll end up like Tom Herman!”

It's not only from this year…

It's not only from this year, his name has been thrown around since we went 9-4 with 8 players drafted.

His team beat #3 Oklahoma his second year, and then #4 TCU a few weeks later. Harbaugh hasn't beaten a top 5 team his entire time here.

Nice cherrypicked stats tho

Really not that complicated…

Really not that complicated. He got comfortable because he was one of the highest paid coaches while getting mediocre results and was still treated like a messiah. Harbs can say without a doubt that he did better than the last 2 coaches here by a country mile (same excuse used by apologists on this board). Yet anyone who actually knows the school knows that he's underachieved.

Basically up until this year, he never felt any HEAT for his bad coaching decisions. 2016 Iowa and FSU, 2017 MSU and Scar, 2018 UF, 2018 and 2019 OSU. 2019 Wisconsin and PSU. So many bad losses but it wasn't until this year he felt his seat getting warm. Him getting comfortable is reflected in his demeanor on the sidelines.

11-2 with a bowl win should…

11-2 with a bowl win should be our standard. Schools like Georgia, Florida, USC and Penn State have all done this multiple times since 2015 meanwhile Harbaugh (who's supposed to be way better than Clay Helton and James Franklin) has achieved this zero times. Even if we lose to OSU we shouldn't be getting BLOWN OUT by Wisconsin.

None of those schools can really say they have an easier schedule either (maybe USC).

Texas made the right…

Texas made the right decision by firing Tom Herman. Saw that he wasn't the guy to lead them to the top, bit the bullet EARLY, and fired him even in a tough season.

Their hiring decision is sus asf though.

Good post. Still unsure how…

Good post. Still unsure how we lost to a FSU team that was missing their best player in Derwin James and got blown out by 40 earlier in the season. 2016 OSU was also one of OSU's worst teams that decade.

LSU was a mediocre program…

LSU was a mediocre program that always underachieved with their talent, and it only took ONE transfer for them to go 15-0 and have one of the greatest seasons of all time. Coach O isn't even considered a great coach by a lot of people. Just had a good year where everything came together at the right time.

The exact same thing can happen at Michigan. JJ could be that guy. One game changer at QB and the trajectory of the program goes in a completely different direction, forever.

Agreed. This may change with…

Agreed. This may change with Alex Day though. Justin Fields will be a first rounder and they have 2 more highly rated recruits coming in.

Remember it only took Bama 1 QB to flip the narrative that they couldn't develop QBs. Only took Michael Thomas for everyone to forget about all the OSU WR busts.

Would absolutely bet on OSU sending a good QB to the league in the next 5 years.

Thought he'd be way better,…

Thought he'd be way better, he's legit terrible.

Remember when guys were…

Remember when guys were saying Chase Young would be a bust because of his 1 bad game against Mayfield?

Good times
