Had a chance to have a…

Had a chance to have a conversation with a ‘68 Tiger recently. He had nothing but amazing things to say about Al Kaline as a human being and teammate, and nothing but terrible things to say about Denny McLain.

Guess I should’ve read your…

Guess I should’ve read your post before  taking the time to make mine.

JJ has all of the physical…

JJ has all of the physical tools and mindset that lead me to believe he can be a great NFL quarterback. That said, so have many other quarterbacks that have all of the tools have been terrible to average in the NFL. The miss rate on first round quarterbacks is crazy high and truly great quarterbacks or even really good quarterbacks are pretty rare.

If you asked me to wager on whether any quarterback draft pick will be a good player in the NFL, I would always say no. There have simply been too many “can’t miss” prospects that can’t hack it in the NFL.

You could be on record for…

You could be on record for saying to hire a lot of coaches that would seem better than the current situation. We canceled our cable/streaming to save some money. Past years I would be so sad because I love Michigan basketball, but I can’t stay awake late enough to see the conclusion of most games and this year I already know the ending so it doesn’t even matter.

Are you saying thank your…

Are you saying thank your lucky stars for living in Ohio? I can honestly say I’ve never heard anybody say that before.

I think Michigan backed down…

I think Michigan backed down for two reasons, but especially #2:

1. They worried that the suspension would just get drawn out longer.

2. Harbaugh saw his friend, Partridge, lose his job over this and realized that only he could put an end to the situation to eliminate the risk of other people being hurt by the collateral damage.

That 2022 PSU game is the…

That 2022 PSU game is the top of the list for me. Dominated them the first half without the score reflecting it, then just blew them out in the second half. At the game it felt tense because we had let them hang around, then we just buried them.

They kept citing 10 yards…

They kept citing 10 yards down field as “10 yards away,” but it was also 10 yards toward the middle of the field. This means the receiver was actually about 15 yards away, which is definitely not the greater vicinity. It was towards a receiver, but not even remotely close to a receiver.

He should absolutely be…

He should absolutely be angry. Angry at the hypocritical mob that convinced him to put his job on the line and drag the conferences reputation through the mud. He should also be angry with himself for letting the inmates run the asylum.

I was just reading the ESPN…

I was just reading the ESPN.com article (my first mistake) and they quote an MSU professor on his facial recognition software that uses “trade secrets.” The article states that the software says on a scale of 0 to 1 the likelihood of a match is 0.6, and it is low because he is in disguise. Somehow, according to the article, this 0.6 indicates a high likelihood that it is the same person. I guarantee you could easily find pictures of two different people that measure higher than a 0.6, what a worthless analysis.

His obsession makes our…

His obsession makes our obsessions seem obviously not obsessive. One of my coworkers was once mocking her exboyfriend because he followed football recruiting and that was so over the top obsessive. The time it takes to follow recruiting vs. flying across the country to volunteer coach/write a manifesto/devise a scheme to tape potential opponents/whatever the hell else he was doing is unbelievable. He built his entire life around Michigan football.

It feels like this should be…

It feels like this should be too old to be funny by now, but it’s really not.

“Who had it reversed back?…

“Who had it reversed back? Snip, snap! Snip, snap! Snip, snap! I did! You have no idea the physical toll that three vasectomies have on a person!”

At what point are…

At what point are conferences so large that they are not really a conference because you rarely play some of the other teams? Football already began to feel this way at 14 with some of the teams in the other division. At 18, you would barely play half of the other teams in the conference each year.

I’m struggling to find much…

I’m struggling to find much twisting.

Data is data, but a mock…

Data is data, but a mock draft is not actual data. Look at the mock drafts from any year and see how accurate they are past the first few picks. I’m not saying the players wouldn’t have been there later, but based on the reports that have  come out it seems like they wouldn’t have.
Regardless, any hot take that says a draft is worse than a Millen era draft is likely to be very wrong.

Literally the same thing…

Literally the same thing happened at a game I went to in 2021. Also down the third baseline. And I’m guessing we were not at the same game sitting next to each other, but it is a regular occurrence. I love Comerica, but on hot days afternoon games get HOT. I can deal with it, but I end up waking around the concourse with my kids because they cannot.

As somebody that breathes A… As somebody that breathes A LOT, I agree with this statement.
Homemade black currant…

Homemade black currant melomel. Hadn’t popped a bottle in a very long time, and it is not disappointing.

You are correct that Diabate…

You are correct that Diabate and Houstan were not great college players as freshmen, but we are not replacing freshman versions of Diabate and Houstan. We are replacing their sophomore versions that were expected to make significant improvements. They are a huge loss and would have been starters and impact players - we just have to hope that somebody else steps up or somebody comes from the portal.

If ya ain’t first you’re…

If ya ain’t first you’re last. And sometimes when you are first you’re last.

Three stories from this…

Three stories from this shirt.

1. I was in Arizona and two guys walked up to me and said, “We’re from Ohio!” I didn’t really know what to say and just said, “sorry.” They said, “No, we agree!”

2. I was at Wrigley and an usher said, “What’s so bad about Ohio? I went to the world’s largest square dance (it might have been line dance, I don’t know the difference and am damn proud of it) there!” I said, “Wow, you just proved the point of the shirt.”

3. I was wearing the shirt in Indianapolis. A bunch of people had no clue that the shirt was referencing our sports rivalry and all loved it. Apparently the places that they liked to take their boats regularly have Ohioans that can never properly use the boat launch. They refer to them as FIFOs (fucking idiots from Ohio).

Plenty of good people come from Ohio, but the idea that a disproportionate number of turds live there extends way beyond the rivalry.

There’s always somebody that…

There’s always somebody that has it worse, unless you are a Lions fan.

Separate yourself from the…

Separate yourself from the emotions of this being about a university/program that you love. Coach had an opportunity to explore an advancement in his career. Sure, he’s been there before, but as the competitive person that we know him to be it should be no surprise that there was a draw to entertaining offers of chasing a Super Bowl victory. This is a huge part of what makes him a good coach and why we have loved him.

How many of us have been apart of an organization that we love or have made deep connections with, but are willing to listen/look for the next step in our career? Ultimately, coach has done it the right way. He was honest with the recruits that asked him about it. They were committing to him and he was honest in his level of commitment to them. There was no other way for him to entertain his options; people were going to find out about interest and interviews. He was not keeping people in the dark out of spite or self interest - he was simply seeing what was out there. In a 24/7 news world, it seemed like forever.

And how are people at all talking about money or the terms from the Vikings being the deciding factor? Sure, he has said that money is not a determining factor, but have his actions not proven that he is not simply looking for the highest compensation?

Jim Harbaugh is many things, but he has time and again shown that he is honest. If he says that he will be here as long as Michigan will have him, then I am inclined to believe him. I think that he saw this as a “last chance” to go to the NFL and win a Super Bowl. Maybe not literally his last chance, but he owed it to himself to at least entertain another opportunity.

Your title is literally …

Your title is literally “best” but you are not saying he is the best? Maybe you should figure this out next time before you take the time to post.

How can somebody that wouldn…

How can somebody that wouldn’t last more than 3-5 years be the “best athletic director for” any era? If you can’t last more than 5 years in a job because you are a dick, then you are not the best. You are just a dick.

I choose to believe that…

I choose to believe that coach will stay in Ann Arbor due to all of the reasons that we have heard he loves being here. It provides a stability for his family that the NFL will never provide. His children can grow up in one community without moves every few years and with their grandparents living nearby. We have seen his son with him at basketball games and at the Big Ten Championship game. I think that these experiences that he can share are important to him - more important than the extra money that an NFL contract might bring. Maybe I am naive, but it has always been reported that coach is not motivated by signing the biggest contract. As a person that makes career choices for reason other than money, I have had extra respect for coach based on the stories.

Again, I am probably being naive and feel free to call me out. I just know that we always hear about coach being “different” and don’t buy the normal motivations for taking a job in the NFL.

You were trying to counter…

You were trying to counter the narrative by picking one statistic to make an argument that Cade’s best games were against two MAC schools where he had 11 attempts each. Nobody that has watched Michigan football this year would pick either of those games when making a list of his top performances. You are cherry picking one statistic to support your opinion.

Cade has improved over the season, and the biggest indicator has been the increased trust of the coaches in Cade. The first 3 games of the year (including the 2 that you cited as his best by rating), everybody was worried that Cade would not be able to make passes when the team needed him to. Week 4 seemed to confirm those worries.

Maybe Cade’s improvements past that point don’t look the same as 5th year senior Jake Rudock, but look at Cade’s performances in the biggest games against MSU, PSU, and OSU. The stats might not jump out at you, but the coaches trusted Cade and he made the plays necessary to keep the chains moving. Very few people had faith in Cade to make those plays 4 games into the season.

If you had said 1 time I…

If you had said 1 time I would have thought you were being bold. Twice? Just insane.

At what point do we stop…

At what point do we stop blaming the coordinators? I have wanted Harbaugh to succeed as much as anybody, but is a new coordinator likely to change anything?

But running up the middle…

But running up the middle worked so well last week, why not try it again?

I guess you read it…

I guess you read it differently than I did. Here’s what I read:

”1. Michigan is really, really bad.

2. Michigan is really, really bad.

3. Michigan is really, really bad.

4. Michigan is really, really bad.

5.Michigan is really, really bad.

6.Michigan is really, really bad.

7. Michigan is really, really bad.

8. Michigan is really, really bad.

9. Michigan is really, really bad.

10.Michigan is really, really bad.

11. Michigan is really, really bad.”

Sure, the last sentence could have been worded stronger, but I feel like the rest of the write up explained it pretty well.

You’re right. With all of…

You’re right. With all of that NFL talent our coaches could beat INDIANA by 3!

And you still think that…

And you still think that people do not like you simply because they do not like what you have to say? Such a martyr, you poor thing.

Yeah, that would’ve actually…

Yeah, that would’ve actually been very informative and accurate.

What title do you give to a…

What title do you give to a bunch of random thoughts?

At the end of the day, he is…

At the end of the day, he is still a victim. By the time he become chair of the board he had decades to think about this trauma and find ways to cope/deal with it that most likely involved never telling anybody that it happened.

With the back and forth of…

With the back and forth of how bad this virus really is, my take is that the answer usually lies somewhere in the middle. And in this case, the middle is still really bad. There is not a good solution to this situation because it is a really, really shitty situation. Pointing fingers right now at who could have done more is also really, really shitty. There will be a whole lot of time for that after this thing is past, stop trying to use it for political advantage. If you want a political advantage, do your job and be a leader during a difficult time.

Also, people keep talking about who is dying and who is surviving, etc. Keep in mind that that data is all based on being able to receive medical care in a hospital. Overload the system and that data looks a lot worse - maybe not for every demographic, but for many. People are acting like they have a complete understanding of how Covid-19 works because they have looked at some numbers and studies. The data is very incomplete and over the course of this pandemic has never been up to date with test results commonly taking five days or longer. The models are changing all the time because the data is changing and our responses are changing.

It is okay to have a discussion about how long our economy can handle these restrictions and its okay to be concerned about it. It is okay to worry that opening things up could kill a lot of people. But to act like either side of that equation does not matter, or that the other side does not have an argument because you are only going to look at data that supports your agenda, is unhelpful and foolish. It does not help to draw parallels to situations that are nothing like this. This is not a car accident. It is not the flu. Also, saying that every life matters is not helpful. At some point economic issues also cause death. The problem is that we are playing a game where we do not understand the rules. Hopefully our leaders will take into account what we do know and hopefully individuals will act responsibly. Also, we might need to find more creative solutions that just sending checks to people and businesses. I’m not saying it won’t fill an immediate need, but what’s next?

Also, if you want to protest the government that is your right. But do not advocate for individual responsibility and that you do not need the government to force you to do the right thing while you stand huddled in a group of people. The stay-at-home order is not just designed to protect you, it is designed to protect others from you (and I understand that the statement stands for me, too). The virus does not care if you do not think that it being hyped for fear-mongering, it can still kill you or your loved ones.

I think if everybody considered “maybe my views are wrong” and at least listened to the other side, we could find the best solutions – or at least the least shitty solutions.

Tl;dr – you do not know everything and neither do I. Listen to people that do not believe exactly what you believe and you will learn something, even if you still do not agree with them.

Yeah, but your fast driving…

Yeah, but your fast driving is more likely to kill somebody else. And the lead in the water will affect other people. Wait, are you implying that if I get Covid-19, even if I am not in a high risk group, it could hurt other people? Who knew?

You are worried about having…

You are worried about having an adult conversation while blatantly making up statistics. You are right, nobody is admitting that 750,000 people died on an average day because that is a made up number. That would mean that 274 million people die each year, approximately 3.5% of the world’s population. 3.5% of the world’s population does not die each year, but do not let the facts get in the way of a great story. Also, yes death is undefeated. However, maybe I am crazy but I like to think that the fact that our average lifespan is significantly higher than most times in history is a positive development.

They keep commenting on the number of rebounds that players have. It’s not impressive to have 4 rebounds when each team has already missed 55 shots.

His claim was not that he was misled on punishments, it was that the coaching staff said that there wouldn’t be more punishments because everything that the NCAA was currently investigating happened under the previous coaching staff. Which was a blatant lie told just to secure the commitments of those players, and without that lie the players might have decided to commit elsewhere.

It’s not lying because he…

It’s not lying because he was focused on the 5 yards part!

You are trying to make something enjoyable and make it unenjoyable for everybody else. You’re a turd; if you could’ve stopped yourself from being a turd with one of your accounts maybe people wouldn’t have connected the dots. People won’t have to wonder if a new account is you because your turdness will make it obvious. Friggin turd.
