Gattis / Offensive strategy for THE GAME

Submitted by LakeWylieBlue on November 23rd, 2021 at 9:27 PM

Michigan needing to strategize outside the box so to speak isn't news to any of us here. Having said that, I am thinking we see 2 back sets with Edwards in there as well in the slot. Haskins, Crum and Edwards on the field at the same time gives osu something to think about. Control the clock is an obvious strategy and a defensive tactic the offense can deploy

Inserting JJ and running RPO's at certain times throughout the game would also prove to be a change of pace and be productive as JJ is elusive and has proven to be a playmaker

What are other options we can utilize this coming Saturday?

Go Blue! Playoff football starts this coming Saturday!

Agreed.  I think we'll see Cade keep on read options and/or scramble by design a handful of times to break tendencies.  I also think we'll see a couple play action deep shots from JJ if they can get into some 2nd and short situations (or 3rd and short in 4 down territory.)  Even if they keep it close or lead midway through, I pray they don't play conservative on offense and bank on stopping OSU for 4 quarters.

There was a breakdown on here a couple of years ago that showed you dont need your QB to run for a boat load of yards in order to get the primary benefit of having a QB run. They just need to do it a few times, make the threat "real" and the defense slows down just that much which opens everything else up.

Cade doesnt need to scramble 10 times, 2-3 decent scrambles on the obviously easy oens is all it really takes.

We've got all week to gameplan, and no doubt we've set some practice time aside each week strictly for OSU prep. Here in my prediction for the opening drive:

Play 1: Haskins 2 yard run between the tackles.

Play 2: Haskins stuffed at the LOS trying to cutback with no holes up the middle bc the LBs and S are sucked up in the box with no respect for our passing game.

Play 3: 7 yard pass attempt on 3rd and 8 is rushed bc of pressure on the obvious passing down and incomplete. Had the receiver caught it, he'd be about a yard short.

Please fucking prove me wrong, Harbaugh.

Defense: that's going to happen. I have 100% faith in Macdonald.

Offense: I don't know. My faith in Josh Gattis left in the Army game when Charbonnet had 33 carries in the "speed in space" offense. What I've seen since then hasn't change much. THANK GOD Matt Weiss has been here and made changes. Maybe his changes will be enough in this game.

I was at that Army game - if Shea hadn't spent 36 holes on the golf course that summer we would have won in regulation. People didn't trust Josh after that game but we had a half-engaged QB.

I do expect a game plan with enough twists and some "routine" stuff that teams like Oregon, PSU, and Nebraska showed OSU couldn't stop.

Payton Thorne had a pathetic game, which is why what could have been a 42-21 loss turned into 56-7.

Counter trey all day long with the occasional fullback dive.  Yep, catch 'em off guard.  Throw in the dead goat drop and we have a plan that will reach the magic 45 points.
