Biggest surprise player of 2023? James Turner, to be honest. I thought we would return to #collegekickers and was surprised that he had beaten both Samaha and Doman to the PK job, despite those guys' crooting ranks.

Eh, I've seen it frequently enough both ways for it to not catch my eye. The more egregious error imo is the "it's", which is objectively wrong. Agreed with your original point - seems like 'journalists' these days sleep through too many of their undergrad English classes.
Yep. This is how a lot of our games have gone the past few years - take a bazillion shots and pad the goalie's stats because they aren't good shots. It showed up big time in our series loss to Tampa when we took forty shots directly into Vasilevskiy's chestplate every game. Team is missing an elite sniper/finisher, Patches was supposed to be that guy but played 5 games for us this season, and we were missing Svech as well. Oh well, ECF is still a hell of a season for any team, so can't be too mad about it!
We've had complaints for years and years about Michigan's inability to both run tempo on offense and respond to tempo on defense. What changes would be necessary in order to make this less of a weak spot for the team? Is it an issue that can be solved in practice, or are there schematic issues that are hindering their progress, such as putting too much on their plates?
Hey Ian. I'm not as well-versed in football lingo as I'd like to be, and I'm sure many others on this board would say the same. I think it might improve your articles to include even more graphics to help your readers follow what you're saying during paragraphs of explanation, because sometimes I can't really keep track of what's going on. Just a suggestion =) keep up the good work!
I read through the linked article on unbalanced formations and covered receivers, but I'm not sure I'm picking up what the purpose of covering a receiver is or how it was used on that play you mentioned. Is it an act of deception to get the defense to commit to accounting for receivers that aren't actually eligible?
Yeah, tough decisions have to be made, unfortunately. I don't have a lot of wiggle room in getting my research completed and thesis written and defended before graduation, and there is rarely more than one person in the lab, so I'm just going to be hand-sanitizing like crazy and avoiding my face until it's all done. Should be easier now that there are no undergrads on campus.
We were in section 308. There were a mix of Michigan and Florida fans around us. Florida fans weren't particularly great but they weren't obnoxious - each team's fans cheered for their own team. Would watch with them again. Mercedes-Benz is an excellent place to watch a football game.
I still don't know if I like Michigan as the favorite to win this weekend. I do know that with the fight we showed against NW and ND we won't go quietly into the night.

While this is a perfectly valid thing to debate, I'd say that the trend in the plot pretty much proves that it's a solid assumption, wouldn't you? There's a very clear trendline amongst all of the non-Michigan teams - better DL equals more opposing holding calls.
Second point I'm not qualified to debate on whether or not that's true so I won't address it.
Also, PART of it might be explained by the beating Michigan puts on teams. Maybe the refs don't call as many holds later in the game because the defense is already smothering the opposing offense. They SHOULDN'T do that, but it might be more of a "mercy" thing than a bias against UM. (like not calling pass interference when a team up big throws a deep ball.)
Um...the other teams on that list put plenty of beatings on bad teams. The most egregious of which are Penn State and Ohio State. I'm sorry but if this were true then we'd see a trend like that applied to the better teams in the league.
I grew up in Charlotte 5 minutes from the university. They've managed to sucker a few people (including my parents) into believing that they're a respectable university now, but everyone knows that what you said is true, that they're a backup school for the kids who can't get into UNC (fuck UNC) or NC State (Go Pack!). The "Charlotte" rebrand is going over about as miserably as every other Panthers season. Nobody around me ever refers to it as anything but UNCC but call it UNCC to any online Charlotte fan and they'll get in your face about it.
I was going to comment about how this was a low effort joke until I realized that Frost has a NC (no matter how technical it may be) and Harbaugh does not.
