B1G Sends Notice of Potential Disciplinary Action [title edited]

Looks like it was confirmed that the league has notified the school that it is likely that it will impose some sort of punishment.  Next few days are about to get real interesting.

The NCAA’s findings do not connect the in-person scouting and recording of opponents’ sidelines to Harbaugh, sources say, an absence of evidence essential to a potential lawsuit from the school and coach against the league.

Hope so.  This report by Wetzel seems to be in line with what we have been claiming all along, and any immediate/significant punishment imposed by Petitti/BIG would qualify as unjust and reckless.  The mounting pressure seems to be really getting to Petitti

This is wishful thinking. There is a picture of Jim listening to Conor on the sideline during a game. Show that to a jury and try to sell he didn't have anything to do with it.

Not saying he did but people believe what they see. That picture is damning.  Why would a head coach take time in the middle of a game to talk to a low level staffer?

Pete Thamel and ESPN have been reporting about Michigan’s diabolical sign stealing efforts. Now it’s slowly being reported that everyone in the B1G has been doing it. Teams have been spying on M and sharing these signs with other conference teams.

This offense may end up being as serious as jaywalking in a cul-de-sac.

I wonder where the whole league teaming up against michigan rank in terms of punishement? Anything short of all big coaches and big ten officialls apologizing publicly is a disappointment

Agreed, but Michigan has 48 hours to respond to this notice and then the Big Ten will decide if they still want to (try to) impose punishment. Petitti stills has his off-ramp, we'll see if he's wise enough to take it. Otherwise, that sweet sweet TRO awaits

A TRO is not guaranteed nor necessarily instantaneous.  And if they wait 48 hours to respond, they may not have time to get their ducks in a row before Saturday.  They should be aggressive but smart at the same time.  If this shit is going down it would be better to know tomorrow than Friday.

The dominos continue to fall for Michigan and it’s sign-stealing allegations.

Bruh, WTF. Use some of that paywall money on spelling and grammar.

Eh, I've seen it frequently enough both ways for it to not catch my eye. The more egregious error imo is the "it's", which is objectively wrong. Agreed with your original point - seems like 'journalists' these days sleep through too many of their undergrad English classes.

Agreed.

The haters will absolutely be in rapture.  But everyone else -- anyone who is a college football fan and doesn't hate Michigan already -- will see it as a total dick move.

Not saying we should leave the conference, but we just might get an invite from the SEC or the ACC the next day.

Not a guarantee that Michigan would take a paycut.  Michigan is a very high profile name that could command a premium, the ACC could go to (holds back bile) and tell them they could get M back under their banner (and away from NBC, Fox...), but the ACC needs more $ to do so

I think this is likely. And a total middle finger to Michigan.  There is zero point in dragging this out at this point unless it is to create a small window to make it impossible to get this restrained before PSU. This also could signal the B10 knows it likely won’t win in court. This is all about pearl-clutching PR at this point.

The last guy that wants Harbaugh to get suspended on Friday so that a TRO can't be implemented is . . . James Franklin (oh, and Drew Allar).

The game plan will already be in place, and it will light such an "us against the world" fire in the Michigan team that they will go scorched earth on Penn State.

I want Mike Hart as the temporary coach for that effort.  For two reasons,

1) Moore is great at calling plays and I don't want that diluted,

2) When you want to go scorched earth, Mike Hart is the guy you want leading it.

I had thoughts about this today as well as it seems Petite (intentional as he's obviously to small to stand up to the pressure) is set to appease the rest of the league and Jim needs to have a plan in place. Leave Moore and Minter alone to focus on thier game plan and let Hart run the team on Saturday. The team looked better under the Hart/Jay combo than either of the other two.

My guess is that the BIG wouldn't do that--it would try to implement it after Penn State. If it does try to act this week, Michigan could always just say FU, ignore the BIG disciplinary action, and say that Jim is coaching until this has had a chance to resolve itself in court. That could, of course, just create additional actions, including a ruling of a forfeiture of the game, but it would certainly send a message. In that case, does Penn State play the game? Does the BIG back down? Interesting times.

I would say that the TRO would come before a response to the BIG.  Giving Michigan two days to respond is not enough time for them to review the evidence and respond to the allegations. They would point to every other type of proceeding that gives the accused weeks or months to respond.  This is an impossible ask of Michigan and only meant to satisfy the bylaws on paper only.
