When did Dickinson suddenly…

When did Dickinson suddenly develop stone hands. Sloppy start. First adjustments will be important.

Cronin specializes in creating sloppy games...it's his MO for years!

Stevens announced this…

Stevens announced this afternoon that he is not leaving Boston, and referred to himself as a "Masshole". Will not consider the IU job.

And they're blaming players…

And they're blaming players for bad decisions and turnovers late in the game. Apparently they did not perceive the good guys turning up the defensive pressure. LOL   They couldn't get a good look for the last 8-10 minutes. (They stayed alive at their free throw line on some dubious calls.) Without some cold shooting on UM side, it would easily have been a double digit win.

Also...apparently, Franz is a "dirty German bastard" according to one red-necked Buckeye who was trying desperately to keep the ignorant comments classy. (Didn't like Wagner's "flop" when EJ buried his shoulder into Franz's numbers)

The blind ignorance there is sad and appalling, even by OSU standards. I probably need to go take a shower now.

Sorry mods...feel free to delete if  the quote about Franz is inappropriate for our board. They certainly didn't remove it, lol.

FWIW...Schlegel has been…

FWIW...Schlegel has been working in sports talk radio in Columbus. Morning show with Bobby Carpenter and Brandon Beam.

HAHAHA! And in other news…

HAHAHA! And in other news...

Well played, D!

Do you think it's possible…

Do you think it's possible that he is not the problem, and yet is still the solution to a thorough and deep rebuild? Also, do you think anyone who has watched the Lions for the last 12 years and has a clue thinks he's the problem? I don't.

My boyhood heroes: Bob…

My boyhood heroes: Bob Gibson, Tom Seaver, Lou Brock, Al Kaline, now Hammerin' Hank.

All gone.

Sad.

Did we get a commit from…

Did we get a commit from Hunter as a "plan B" to Todd going elsewhere? If so, right now I think I may OK with that...

Agree they need a lot more…

Agree they need a lot more sack!

There is a man who is trying…

There is a man who is trying to save his job and his reputation...with a straight face!!

Too late.

Self has been recruiting him…

Self has been recruiting him since 8th grade and has developed a relationship with Todd. Perhaps we can consider this visit as an attempt on the part of the student-athlete to break the news to coach Self in a face to face meeting that he is going to matriculate and take his skills to the University of Michigan. It would be a classy thing to do, after all. Right????

I was stranded in the Boston…

I was stranded in the Boston airport (Logan) last January, thinking I would be spending the night in the terminal due to bad weather. I was desperately trying to hop a flight to Cincinnati to get home.

While waiting in the terminal I was seated next to the linebackers coach from BC (Ricky Brown) who was also trying to get to Cinci to recruit the city, and Ohio in general. We started chatting UM football as he had worked with Coach Brown at BC, and had coached with Coach Campanile the last couple years. He brought up All as we chatted about prospects. He said they (BC) absolutely LOVED All, and declared him an "absolute stud". He said they wanted him badly and hated to lose him to UM. (I don't think they were ever in the running)  I also remember him saying "you guys are gonna love that guy!"

I'm looking forward to seeing him get on the field and showing everyone what he can do. It sounds like it may be difficult to keep him on the sidelines.

Go Blue!

Is it just me, or does he…

Is it just me, or does he appear to have an "old man's game" in his youthful, athletic almost-18 years old body? He is crafty...and I mean that as a high compliment.  I'm very excited to see him contribute to a season, which up to this point, has lowered expectations in relation to the last couple squads in A2.   Go Blue!

Just curious...do we still…

Just curious...do we still have Arnie Kander working his magic with guys to keep them healthy?

What's up with the homer…

What's up with the homer announcers? Are they alums? They seem so disappointed when anything goes Michigan's way, and elated anytime the Bruins get a whiff of some positive momentum. May have to turn the sound off.

I was just there last…

I was just there last January. Everything above by Imafreak1 is absolutely spot on. I really would not disagree with one recommendation. Be care about the steaks. We were told by our guide that they simply sear one side, then the other, then serve them (bloody??) They will not budge from this delicacy as cooking the steaks any further will ruin them. They come from the historic Etruscan breed of white bulls/cows which have been preserved since the Etruscans ruled the Tuscan region (Etruria)

You won't be able to do it all in one day, but you could choose a couple things to really enjoy in a day. I would probably add the Borgello museum to this list of options. It has a number of priceless renaissance sculptures by Michelangelo, Donatello, Ghiberti, et al.

Enjoy your visit...it is an amazing city!  And by all means eat all the Gelato you can!

I coached an athlete years…

I coached an athlete years ago that was being recruited by several Big ten coaches. I assure you that when coach Knight came to visit practice and meet the coaches and the athlete, he was warm and engaging. very straightforward and honest in his standards (academic, athletic/coachability, attitude, and respect for authority) But my most vivid memory was his friendliness meeting each coach on the staff and learning their names and shaking their hands. In short, I would say that what you saw on the bench and in press conferences was not the same person as I met on the recruiting trail.

By contrast Bill Frieder and Gene Keady both came off as arrogant and even, to some degree, fake. Keady wore an open collar shirt under a sport coat with gold bling necklace in full view and spoke negatively about the other coaches in the conference not being able to make their players better (especially Frieder as he cited Tarpley's lack of development).   Frider just seemed cocky to me.

These guys know how and when to turn on the warmth and charm. I don't think it matters that Juwan may be introverted...he'll figure out how to get the job done. Sometimes the quieter person seems more authentic and sincere than the "used car salesman" personality. We don't need a "Better Call Saul" guy here. I think Juwan would do fine in recruiting.

The player ended up going to IU and having a great career and a several year career in the NBA. I don't think he ever regretted his decision to go there, FWIW.

The real question for me is can he teach the game and develop players. That has been Belein's strength from day 1. That's what I'd like to know about Juwan before I hired him.

Two things I would recommend…

Two things I would recommend:

First, watch a video on Netflix called "The Magic Pill". It illustrates the amazing benefits of Keto as well as the "establishment push back", particularly in South Africa (since it goes against the prevailing attitudes and perceptions of doctors who still cling to the idea that if you have cholesterol problems you must not eat a fatty diet.)

Second, I would at least speak to your doctor about it and seek counsel from a medical professional. You might even seek out a second opinion.

It has worked very well for my wife who has lost between 20 and 25 lbs. (and she does not exercise other than to walk the dogs occasionally) She looks better than she has since we started our family about 30 years ago. She has also experienced reduced inflammation (in her joints especially).

Keep in mind you are mostly seeking out the healthy fats, as others have mentioned. The hardest part for us has been cutting out breads, pasta, and other carbs such as beer. Rather than total elimination, we are now moderating those carbs and trying to be mindful of intake. That helps with the cravings for the things we like so much. For me, the challenge has been maintaining the fiber in my diet, so I try to keep lots of veggies and some moderated fruits in my diet.

Overall, I would recommend giving it a go and see if it works for you.

Perk, a lot of coaches…

Perk, a lot of coaches prefer to try attack a D in transition so they can’t get set up and get organized and locked in. There’s a good chance of a defensive breakdown in that situation. UNC didn’t look like they had a good plan to get a decent shot off in this case.

Nice to have a guy that can…

Nice to have a guy that can guard 3 or maybe even 4 positions on the floor when somebody starts heating up. I’m glad he’s on our side!

Am I the only one who…

Am I the only one who noticed how quickly Cowen cooled off when Charles picked him up on D??

Belein showing more fire…

Belein showing more fire than every single player on his squad...very sad. They deserve everything that is happening tonight.

Does this help pull Zach H…

Does this help pull Zach H back toward the good guys?

Is it possible...that Meyer…

Is it possible...that Meyer didn't fire Smith for the office affair because Smith knows something that could blow up Meyer's facade of moral sanctimony. For example, if Meyer had done the same thing in the offices at Florida and Smith knew that,  Smith could expose Meyer's hypocrisy if he dared fire him for doing the same thing???

Just asking for a friend.

Local response from Columbus…

Local response from Columbus area:

Living just outside Columbus and listening to the sports radio, the reaction has ranged from somber to outrage over Meyer's arrogance and stupidity. Some of them are expecting him to be fired and supporting that decision.

I'm thinking they (radio guys and local media) always knew what everyone else knew: he was, at best, a borderline scumbag. But he was THEIR scumbag and he wins. Now that he has been exposed for his hypocrisy, they are being highly critical and expressing anger at his soiling of their proud institution's reputation. They are saying things like "No one person is more important than THEE Ohio State University. That was the mistake Tressel made when he covered for players receiving illicit benefits (tatoos). Why couldn't Urban have learned that from JT's mistake and fired Smith immediately when he learned that he was STILL abusing his wife?"

Many outside the radio booths are defending Meyer, but most seem to recognize the gravity of his non-action, and recognize that a firing would be an appropriate response (especially considering the current scandal regarding the Athletic department's team doctor and his sexually abusive behavior that was tolerated for years).

This is what I'm hearing here on the ground in Cbus.

Nice stroke and looks fundamentally sound @ 16 yrs. old

I like his shooting stroke. It's quick and smooth, with no hitch.  It also appears that their 3 pt. line is a bit deeper than the college line he would see at the collegiate level in the US.

He seems to drive with both hands. He doesn't appear to be especially explosive athletically. He does remind one of Duncan Robinson but maybe drives a little more agressively. Remember when we learned how explosively Stauskus could drive to the rim? Most saw him as a spot up shooter, but got stronger and more explosive with the strength program at UM.

I noticed his birthdate at August 2001. He doesn't even turn 17 until August. He would be a rising sophpmore in the U.S. I haven't seen a huge number of 6'7" sophomores playing at this level in H.S. lately. Just sayin...

I would say that he is worth monitoring for 2 things: physical development, and skill development. He could arrive in 2.5 years as a frosh and understudy for a year or even 2 years. I would guess Coach B will keep a close eye on him as he develops. He just has the look of kids that Coach B recruits.

agree

He would definitely help us. He would be a bit of a project, but like I suggested earlier, he has a much better upside than anyone I see on the roster at the moment. He plays with some grit and has a feistiness about him...he got a technical in one of the games I attended. He got tired of being bumped around by smaller athletes who had no other choice than to "hack a Ward". lol. I didn't mean to be critical of him at all. I would definitely take him on my roster.

I've seen both (all) the Pickerington athletes

*First post...sorry so long.

Both of my sons have competed against the Pickerington athletes. Older son played against Butt and LeVert, younger son has competed against Ibi. I am also a coach so here is my take:

Jake Butt would help the Men's Basketball team in the post RIGHT NOW! He was a tenacious competitor with a bevy of post moves to get his shot off. (What the heck is a "bevy", anyway?) He would be undersized to play in the Big Ten, but I seriously think he could help the team, given the way our post play has looked recently. Ok, so this isn't happening, as everyone knows, but we all know he would compete like crazy!

Caris was very lean in H.S. and was not nearly as athletic or explosive as Ibi is now. I was surprised when Caris committed to UM. I didn't see him as that caliber of athlete. Of course, he has grown in stature and in skills since H.S. senior year. Ibi is a more impressive athlete right now (as a senior in H.S.) I would call him explosive as an athlete. However, in the games I have seen, he doesn't assert himself into the game on a consistent basis like Caris did. I agree that his handle is average for a college bound swing man. His perimeter shot is above average. In transition he is a beast. I am not surprised that UM recruited Ibi from a standpoint of potential development. He could be very good with superior coaching and the challenge of competing against better athletes on a regular basis. Of course, there is no way to know whether he will grow physically the way Caris did...that was kind of freakish.

One other matter, Caris lifted and carried his team to a state championship his senior year. Big school competition in Ohio is outstanding and especially in central Ohio. I started my career in Indianapolis and for years thought that HS hoops in Indy was elite. I also coached in the Detroit area for years and we all know that it is elite in terms of talent and competition. Columbus doesn't have the volume and depth of talent as Detroit, (smaller metro area) but I think it compares favorably to Indianapolis, and Indiana in general. So within that context, Ibi is a very good athlete and is potentially a very good basketball player on the next level at UM. I will be watching (probably in person) what Ibi does to lead his team in the state tournament this year.  I would guess he won't play for 2 years at UM, for what my opinion is worth.

The MSU commit at Gahanna (Nick Ward) has not impressed me favorably. I saw Robert Traylor play in HS. There is no comparison. I saw Chris Webber play. No comparison, and a different kind of player. I saw (and coached) Alan Henderson in HS. Same comparison as Webber. I would call him rough and unpolished. He is not fundamentally sound. He does appear to have a significant upside with some superior coaching (is Izzo known for that?)  In fact, Javon Bess was more impressive as a HS athlete (to me, anyway)

Again, sorry so long. Maybe the information will be helpful to some.
