I don't think anyone is…

I don't think anyone is suggesting the retaliation by Rielly was for scoring vs. not scoring.  The examples aren't equivalent from the other sports because this has nothing to do with running up the score as others have pointed out.  You only pull the goalie because there's a chance you can still tie it up.

A similar example would be an unwritten baseball rule like staring down the pitcher after a big hit or taking too long to round the bases.  Lots of times it is clearly just due to the opponent's anger in the moment and a (sometimes) slight 'violation' of unwritten rule.

Guys score on slapshots in empty nets all the time - but not when you're basically at the crease and there's no one around even trying to stop you.  Rielly even let up and conceded the goal (not that he had much of chance).  You do everything you can to score in those situations but taking a clapper there was a bit of an 'F you'.

To be clear, I don't agree with what Rielly did and agree that he should (and will be) suspended.  I just understand why he did it.

This was going to be my…

This was going to be my entry on this list as well.  Huge play by Q-Jo.  You can hear it at the end but the crowd goes nuts.  I remember it being deafening in our section.  Watching the replay after (I think a couple seconds after this clip ends) Klatt mentions how loud the stadium is that point with something like 'stadium has never been louder'

Well said NeverPunt.  This…

Well said NeverPunt.  This perfectly encapsulates my relationship with Mgoblog- as I’m sure it does for many others too.  I was a LONG time lurker and only created an account after however many years and crazy to see how long even that has been now.
It has given me such a deeper understanding of football from being a diehard but not a ball-knower in the past. Though I still obviously don’t know half of what Seth, Brian, Alex and the rest of the staff do but that’s why I love this place. And of course has given me a place to process my Michigan football emotions after all the big ups and downs with all the insightful posts and takes.  Incomparable.

Also like you touched on- so happy Seth stepped up and put the site on his back for the year (2021?) when it needed to be done.  As has been said countless times, the last 3 years are story book after what 2020 seemed to portend.

No bigger up than this.  Team 144 forever

Hopefully this new season…

Can’t beat the Rust Cohle quotes.  Hopefully this new season coming out in a couple days holds a candle to the first

Also- thanks for sharing Dennis.  Stay strong and we’ll always have Team 144

Phenomenal diary SJRK.  Hits…

Phenomenal diary SJRK.  Hits you right in the feels.

I love this team.  This season will echo for all time and it was certainly a culmination of the trials of the previous years as you aptly lay out.

I'm just soaking in all the content and floating on this feeling today like Brian described in the post-game.

Go Blue!  Team 144 forever

I’m pretty sure I saw him on…

I’m pretty sure I saw him on the broadcast at one point too.  Was he wearing our white jersey if I saw correctly?

Sopwith. …

Sopwith.  GhostofFritzCrisler with seemingly spot on legal takes (stolen by Tom Mars lol).  And the other lawyer poster who put the amicus together - Rym.  EvenYouBrutus had a few scoops too iirc.  Can't beat the Mgoblog community (or writers for that matter).

Pulling out all the stops to…

Pulling out all the stops to try to get back in our good graces.  Not gonna happen ESPN.  Go Hutch and Go Dez but the rest can go fly a kite

I think the key for this one…

I think the key for this one is they only proved he was at one game or something like that IIRC

You make good points but I…

You make good points but I keep hearing this:

“Separately from that is the B1G argument that if Stallions did any of this regardless of NCAA violations, that it violates the sportsmanship standards. Their punishment of the University (note not Harbaugh directly) was to deprive the team of their head coach for the final three games.”

and I thought the counter argument is already pretty well established no?

Once everything is out there and IF it’s shown Stalions was not in-person scouting and only hiring these ‘3rd parties’ and IF we successfully argue that this technically does not break the rule then how in the hell can that moron Pettiti argue there’a a violation of the sportsmanship policy no matter the massive discretion he (likely unlawfully) claims to have?  If if it’s shown to technically be allowed under the rules then how can the idiot commissioner petition preemptively rule this to be a violation?

Sure that’s two big variables but not remotely out of the realm of possibility and obv the constant due process argument that is a key piece in all of this.

So- don’t accept jack shit.  No agreeing to any length of suspension until this has been properly and fully adjudicated since there’s a very real chance we didn’t break the rules.  Accepting any kind of suspension prematurely is an admission of guilt which is fatal if you believe you have a case which clearly we do.

edit:  I see bluespark has a related response below with a much more thorough and cogent argument about whether or not rules were broken and when we should focus on this.

Had me nodding my head for…

Had me nodding my head for the first part but did a double-take at the end there.  I like “Re-sign” better than resign when talking about JMFH.  (I know that’s what you meant to be clear)

Edit: Nvm- I see doubleblue beat me to it

This.  They still barely…

This.  They still barely reported it and are excusing what Ohio, Rutgers and Purdue et al did essentially as ‘not against the rules’ and stating such when that is not actually true.  So they are continuing to be as massively biased and misleading (to our detriment) as possible.  Bunch of dickbags.

I cancelled my Athletic…

I cancelled my Athletic subscription and used to use ESPN.com for all my scores and general sports updates.  Never again.  Biased clowns.

Incredibly (although not so much I guess) - Espn STILL has no article up about Michigan's signs being stolen and shared around the conference last year.  It's 12:45pm the day after this massive update to the story.  The overall story which Thamel and co. have been breathlessly pushing for the past 2 plus weeks but apparently this update isn't worth putting up.  There is of course room for a headline that 'Michigan is embracing being the villain'.  And 2 other signgate headlines in their top 10 (so 3 total !!) - but not a single one about the other facts that have started coming up in our favour over the past 24 hrs.

Absurd.  I hope they get what's coming to them at the end of all of this.

Another excellent diary. …

Another excellent diary.  Good job Qmatic.

Definitely really has the potential to be special year obviously.  Excited to see the young guns like Will J and Graham with another off-season of conditioning and coaching under their belts

Great read and analysis…

Great read and analysis Qmatic.  I agree on Roman Wilson - kid is a burner with great hands, great routes and blocking and works hard (like most guys on these recent reams).  Hopefully him in particular along with the rest of the receiving group put up some big numbers this year in connection with seeing JJ fully coming into his own

Our prayers are with you and…

Our prayers are with you and your son (and whole family for that matter), Seth.  Nothing scarier than dealing with a serious health issue for your child (young child no less).  Hopefully your son is through this soon.

My aunt had/developed GBS a couple years ago and it was obv a scary experience for her and the whole family.  She was in the hospital for a bit while regaining full breathing and motor function but is otherwise fine now luckily.

Again - hoping for speedy recovery for your little guy.

Another excellent diary post…

Another excellent diary post on the subject.  Thanks for putting these together.  Interesting result re: the number of draft picks for a given school and the effect (or lack thereof) on the probability of commitment for out of footprint recruits.

Agree to disagree.

Agree to disagree.

Seconded.  Thanks for…

Seconded.  Thanks for putting in the time and effort to do these for all these years.  100% has been a must-read every week before diving into the main site reaction piece.  Like Blueroller said, this diary was the main content I looked forward to after losses since Bronx seemingly always had/has great perspective to offer.

And I agree with Bronx, future is bright no matter what with the talent and system we seem to have in place.  No doubt missed Corum dearly on Saturday and it would be huge if he comes back -  though unlikely.  Hope Harbaugh stays but as has been said, can't blame him if he goes.

Bronx- I like a lot of your…

Bronx- I like a lot of your takes but you’re just off on your criticism of JJ.  I liked Cade.  He was the QB we needed last year and he won the B1G and beat Ohio.  It’s ok for us as fans to bag on him now that he’s said some shit on his way out that colours our perception of him.

You hang your hat on the rote ‘JJ couldn’t complete a deep ball’ and then also hand wave his game winnings plays in The Game.  He didn’t complete a deep ball for a stretch because the receivers dropped a half dozen balls that hit them in the hands.  Yes he airmailed some too.  But if even a few of those hand hitters are caught, the lazy narrative about JJ suddenly not being able to complete a deep ball at all after making a bunch to start the year (and a few last year) carries no weight.  We only took a few shots by offensive design so numbers are always have good opportunity to be skewed there.

I haven’t watched the video…

I haven’t watched the video in a while but I remember bulging vein head Tuck could clearly see the hand hanging down for several steps as he was rage staring straight ahead and walked right into it (it was inches above his eye-line the whole time just hanging there).  He instantaneously turned and punched/slapped the hand/arm as hard he could.  Almost like he was hoping for it so he could retaliate.

I know this also is hypocritical as a Michigan fan and sounds like victim blaming.  I don’t condone people touching coaches or players (or anyone) who doesn’t want to be touched.  It was right that the fan was kicked out.  Just interesting to note tuck’s behaviour around the whole thing is all.

Thanks for sharing Mike. …

Thanks for sharing Mike.  Looks like a happy little dude and obviously seems lucky to have parents like you and the wife.  Thanks for being our good luck charm Trace!

Yeah I think they were…

Yeah I think they were talking about Corum and he said something like ‘Blake Corum may deserved the heisman but Bijan Robinson is the best back in the country.’ hahah what??

Robinson proceeds to go for 29yds on 12 carries against TCU.  Your best back, ladies and gents.

I mean, ABC/espn/Disney paying his salary so you gotta say what’s good for your employer I guess?

I think you could say most…

I think you could say most of us on this blog are homers.  Clearly beating Ohio is far from a sure thing, but it’s nice to finally have some confidence going into The Game after the last decade plus of …not so nice feelings.

Obviously is nice to have backdoor way in if that’s the way the chips fall but until then, beat Ohio.

Thanks for sharing this sbaw…

Thanks for sharing this sbaw!  Always great to read these detailed fan experiences from the Michigan faithful.  Pretty great friend to get you tickets like these!

Robbins is definitely a dude.  Guy looks like an old timey weight lifter and pulls it off as a punter.

Cool story bro:  A friend's…

Cool story bro:  A friend's dad somehow knew Ian (aka Hummer) through his friend group.  A bunch of us came to town for the first hockey game at the big house (the original Big Chill against sparty - back in 2010 apparently based on a quick search).  Hummer hosted our tailgate at his house in Ann Arbor.  He was a great host and a great guy - I don't remember any of the particulars but good times were had by all.  He even took us over to Yost earlier in the day to get a quick look at the facilities and our guys' dressing room - obviously with the warning about not stepping anywhere near the block M in the middle!

Another good memory of a sparty beat down at the Big House.

RIP Hummer

I live just outside of…

I live just outside of Windsor.  Airport is definitely pretty tiny and not somewhere you’d want to spend any time on a layover but it’s obv convenient for us.  There’s really only the on-site parking as there isn’t the demand for anything organized off-site (like park and fly at Detroit).  Having said that there are a bunch of commercial plazas with huge parking lots (Home Depot) right around the corner and I have parked the car there before for a multi day trip without getting towed.

Crossing:  100% the bridge.  The tunnel is an enormous roll of the dice on the best of days and can have ridiculous wait times since it’s only 2 small lanes (1 each way).  It can be convenient for popping over to anything downtown in either City but not worth the risk when you’re on a travel schedule.  Someone above commented about the link for checking crossing times- on an average Saturday I can’t imagine it would be long at all crossing into Canada.

Enjoy your trip eh!

This 100% without a doubt…

Definitely agree. This 100% without a doubt was pre planned.  Sure, we’ve been hearing all week (and before) about how Oscars viewership has fallen off a cliff and they have to revamp the format and engage audiences again.  Then we ‘coincidentally’ get a massively attention grabbing (and pre-planned) movie ‘slap’ for everyone to generate buzz about today.  Well played Chris and Will and Hollywood.  Janet Jackson and Justin timberlake are proud of you

I did not know this was a thing- problem was immediately solved!  You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar

The extreme slow loading on…

The extreme slow loading on iPhone when you first visit the page (loads more quickly when already on the site and jumping around) is still going on.  Not necessarily complaining as much as I wanted to point out that’s it’s still an issue.  It was getting bad late last year and since the update it seems considerably slower now.  Generally at least 25-30ish seconds for first load.

100%

Transparently designed…

100%

Transparently designed by ESPN to pump the SEC tires (and future SEC teams) since that is their major college football broadcast rights package going forward.  Yes Bill Connelly but he obv works for ESPN his editors had more than a bit of input guiding this.  Don’t think for a second it wasn’t calculated.  Yes it’s not really a big deal since this doesn’t mean anything but just shapes their narrative more about how great the SEC is.

Not a single B1G matchup in the top 10 and the highest B1G team is us at 10 in the horror rather speaks for itself.  The listed games were obviously good games.  Just can’t tell me not a single one of those listed in the comments above weren’t worthy of slotting in here somewhere.

Yeah B-nut is seriously…

Yeah B-nut is seriously butthurt about any legit concerns being voiced re: gattis throwing shade at Michigan on his way out

The “for whatever reason” is…

The “for whatever reason” is that he wants to coach in the NFL if possible and has a chance to right now.  Every person who isn’t try to kick harbaugh on the way out acknowledges that clear fact.

The gnashing of teeth and rending garments section are those like you crying about being done with Harbaugh since he’s exploring NFL options like a bunch of scorned lovers.

If he moves to Vikes there is clearly an opportunity for Warde (and Michigan) to make a great hire and we’d all be excited by that.

Some of the blame is hard to…

Some of the blame is hard to pin down but the majority should fall on us.  That much is certain.

Not long ago you could get a bottle over here for $30 CDN (which is like $5 USD lol) but they realized what they had on their hands and jacked it up to $80ish.  I still grab it whenever I see it since they’re hard to come by

Thanks for this, Seth.  I've been waiting to hear your take on the rumblings and this is much more in depth (and seemingly right on point) than what I could've hoped for

Solid.  I will say that was…

Solid.  I will say that was a hell of a lot of ‘good shit Jedd’ moments on Saturday and that’s truly when it matters most.  And obviously a D performance for the ages.

Seth’s typical optimism is one of the main things that keeps me coming back. And honestly reading Bronxblue’s rational (and optimistic) diary posts have been key every Monday win or lose for the past several years.  Helps to fuel the hope

No way in hell!  Seth had…

No way in hell!  Seth had committed to UFR earlier in the week when the general consensus was likely loss.  And he’s been phenomenal this year for everything with Brian stepping back. I know the UFRs are lots of work but it’s a bit insulting to say anyone but Seth should do this (leaving aside the potential differences in scoring styles).  This one will be enjoyable or much more than usual obv.  Seth deserves that.  I think Brian would feel the same

Thanks for doing these. …

Thanks for doing these.  Sorry to hear about the accident and hope you're back to full strength again soon

Sadly, there apparently isn't any sound option for this clip (unless I'm missing something but all the other gfycat clips you posted seem to have the sound option).  Was hoping to hear the blogger yelling to compare to my yelling during the same play

“They solved their problems…

“They solved their problems with regression!”

Well done Seth.  Legit laughed after reading that gem.

We Canucks prefer to lurk.  It’s the more polite way to ‘engage’ with the board- less chance for rabble rousing eh.

I still have no idea what CDN means in OPs context.  Was hoping for some lively discussion about my fellow hosers when I saw the thread title.

Thanks for these JMo - great reads everytime!  Appreciate you taking the time to do this and I've gotta say that it's pretty awesome we can get this kind of #content from dedicated members of the MgoCommunity

Love these write-ups,…

Love these write-ups, BronxBlue!  Always look forward to your measured takes after the game.  I'm pretty sure I've read every Best and Worst for the past few years and admit to checking the site every few minutes late sunday / early monday until the diary is finally up.  Just created an account so that I could throw this comment up (after many years lurking/reading and not posting).

So with the guilt trip out of the way - did I miss the Best and Worst for PSU or are you just taking a break from diary posting for a while?
