Light at the end? Deleted. Double post.
Light at the end? I don't know what you saw the season to make you think there's a light at the end of the tunnel. I haven't really seen much in the last three years to make me think that there's going to be any long-term change here. My perspective of Michigan is this, there the Lions with a bit of a higher ceiling A lower floor. But there seems to be something intrinsic in this program now that they just can't win at a high level. I honestly don't ever expect Michigan to beat Ohio State. When they took a 14 point lead this year, I had no expectation of victory, only an expectation of a big Ohio State come back which of course happened. This doesn't mean they'll never beat Ohio State, just that at present it's going to be a real rarity. This is where we are. I'll need to see it to think otherwise. Watching Michigan is becoming comical, just like watching the Lions often has been. You can't take them seriously. I'll be pleasantly surprised if they ever become big winners again. Honestly I think Michigan would be doing their Fanbase a favor if they were just skip the Ohio State game down in Columbus this year. Don't bother going, you're just going to lose anyway. That way the fans will be spared the waste of time and let down of watching another loss to Ohio State. In this way fans who might not want to watch but get drawn in by that slight hope that maybe Michigan will win won't have to make a decision on whether to watch or not. It will be done for them, and they can use that time on an endeavor that will make them happier.
Why not, the mythical Why not, the mythical national championship is a little more than just an opinion even now. This so called championship that I think should be referred to as the Alabama invitational only has three conferences represented, and one of the teams that are left didn't even win it's a conference. What you really have been played out is a championship between the ACC the SEC and the big 12. So why not claim to be national champions, UCF didn't lose a game, and they beat the team that beat the other two remaining teams. Any bashing of the UCF schedule is just opinion. Ohio State is at least champion of the Big 10 and Pac-10 as it proved by beating the Pac-10 champ in the Cotton Bowl. Until you expand the playoffs and actually give you every team a legitimate chance to get into it it's not a playoff or championship. If you really want to get a playoff quit watching the BS that they serve us up. Don't watch these useless bowl games, I don't watch the fraud of a championship that they present to us. We are part of the problem because we as the public have been buying into this bowl crap for 80 years. I basically quit watching after the end of the regular season and I won't be watching on Monday night. There are way too many other things to do.
World Cup country equivalent Not sure about the MBB equivalent, but the world cup soccer equivalent would be England. Always decent to good, never great. Never a real threat to win anything. Nearly always overrated. Really great back in the early 1900s.
Not basically every year.

I think the Notre Dame rivalry is a good one that I have enjoyed since the 80's, but I'd perfer it to be two years on and two years off or soemthing like that, so we can play so other hopefully good Power 5 teams.  I'd prefer more variety.

Meeting?

Why would a head of state for a country the size of Russia meet with a foreign singer, even one popular in his country? Unless it was for political purposes he could somehow use he has no reason to, and such a meeting would be beneath him.

I hope we don't offer him again

I don't think we want a guy who would leave UCLA after not even a half a season.  He'd probably do the sam thing here.  I don't think guys who quit quickly or easily are a good fit for Harbaugh's program.  I hope for his own sake he sticks it out at UCLA.

Rudock

Rudock looked pretty bad. Morris must be awful, and as bad as Hoke was I don't think he was moronic enough to not play Morris if he was better than Devin last year.  Smith looked terrible but seemed a bit better in the 4th.  I liked how Michigan seemed to keep playing hard right to the end and kept there composure.  Seemed like a much better outing in general.

Day games

I actually prefer day games to the night.  It's ok with me if there no night game, but I just watch on TV anyway.

Return?

Might want to wait a couple years or so before you say the return, assuming he's taking about our old year in and year out winning ways.  We aren't back yet.

I don't know about anyone else but after the last several years, I need to see it before I believe it.

May have been looking for a reason to be offended

I don't know much about this situation, but the family is from the area so the dad may have been a Nebraska fan all his life and happy his son was going there close to home.  He may have just been looking for a reason to take offense.

Ok

I think for Labor Day weekend it's fine.  I don't like the fact the season starts on Labor Day weekend.  I'd like it to start the weekend afterward.  Lots on good things one can do on a Labor Day saturday rather than watch a game.  I'd like it better if the season started the third weekend in Sept. like it used to.  More games in Oct. and Nov., less in Sept.  Love watching college football in Nov when the weather is colder.

8 - 4

I say 8 - 4 to 9 -3.  If I am wrong I expect it will be to the upside.

I agree.

Harbaugh's team was eliminated from the playoffs last week.  I think it's deadline time.  I don't think Harbaugh comes at this point.  There was no reason not to make the decision by now if he wanted to come. Very soon UM will need to move on.

My best guess is also that the leak was for the benefit of the UM fan base.  They know Harbaugh is our preferred candidate so they want it known they did everything to get him.  Less likely to lose unhappy season ticket holders that way.

Great QB

Harbaugh was a great QB and my favorite who ever played at Michigan.  Perhaps this stems from him being the QB when I was in high school, but he Qb'd my all time favorite Michigan team the 1985 team.  Nothing will change that rather he takes the job or not.

I can't blame him if he doesn't.  He spent years in the league.  Everyone wants to be at the top of there profession.  In coaching that's the NFL.  Harbaugh went to school here but I can't fault him if his desire is not to teach here.  School is preparation for life, not a contract that you must come back.

That being said I really hope he takes the job.

Yes

I think this moves up the time table.  If Harbaurgh is coming we should know within four days.  Harbaughs competitive season is effectively over.  If hes coming here it's time to go to start planning for the future at Michigan.  If he wants to wait to see what other pro offers come his way, he's not coming IMO and I'm not sure if we;d really want him then anyway if we were a consolation prize.  We'll know by Thursday I think.

Cash

It's my opinion that when he came there they showed him a pile of cash.  Anytime an athlete starts talking about how great such and such schools very average academic program is, that's what I think, right or wrong.

Saban

Saban gets guys into the league.  That's his main selling point I would suspect.   I would imagine the winning is to a certain point secondary.   I don't think there a better school recently at getting kids into the league.  For a 4 or 5 star recruit, regardless of what they might say that's what it's about.

Harbaugh has some serious cred because he has both played in the league and coached in the league at a very high level.  I see no reason why Harbaugh would not be able to recruit with best of them.  He even has some high level Stanford players to point to.

Most People

Most people can't agree on what city is the best.  I'll wager more people in America have San Fransisco low on places they like to live rather than high, many specifically for the culture.  That being said, Ann Arbor is a college town, not I would say a world class city.  Maybe a world class small town.

Yosemite though, which is close SF,is the most beautiful place I've ever been.  Everyone should see a Sequoia once before they die.

Agreed

It's just football not life or death.

Won't even watch if he's back.

As late as early last season I used to yell at the TV all the time during a game.  Now I sit back with no expectations.  I have come close to not caring, and it seems like many people I know personally who are fans feel the same way,  I quit watching before the end today to get a haircut.  If they don't hire a new coach for next season, I am not sure I will even watch next season.

I would think pretty good

I would expect Harbaugh to make a pretty big difference right out of  the gate, but I would not expect 11-1 next season.  9 -3 sounds about right, possibly only 8 -4.  Year 3 I would expect us to be great year in and year out.  I would expect two seasons that still might be a little rough.

It's worth noting if we get Harbaugh that we will have a big hole in our recruiting classes in 2015.  This will affect the team several years down the road.  I would think great coaching and a stellar class in 2016 would partially or mostly offset the hole in 2015, but we won't be able to afford a second straight below par class, which I fully would expect this will be if we get Harbaugh.  He will not have enough time to really salvage what was already going to be a small class.

Well said.

If graduation was the big metric, there would be no reason to pay these guys the salaries they make.  Most of these kids don't come primarily to graduate, they come to make the league and the big bucks.

Butt Kicking

Two ways this goes, neither of which has U of M winning.

A. We play real good and lose at the very end.

B.  We are blown out right from the start.

I go with B.  I think this will be more like the Rich Rod bowl just before he was fired.  This team knows he's done.  It's been a really hard year, crappy season.  They get behind a bit and mail it in, I think.  49-14 is my prediction.

Better get better

I think Mr. Funchess is going to find the NFL won't be paying much and for long if he continues to perform the way he has.  It's just going to get a lot harder in the NFL, so I am told.  I think Devin is in for a rude awakening in the NFL.  I predict with the attitude he seems to have he will be a major flop at the next level.  I highly doubt the NFL is easy money, rather probably the opposite.

Agree

Funchess has really disappointed this year.  I doubt he will be a good pro.  He should stay and work on his game.  If his production is because he is now disinterested, that is a problem that will plague him in the pros.  If his is disinterested, he obvoiusly does not have enough talent to overcome it.  All that being said it would probably be good for michigan if he stayed.

1985

1985 is the one that sticks out in my mind.  That was the year I became a Michigan fan.  We had an awesome defense led by All Americans Mike Hammerstien at DT and Brad Cochran at CB.  Both were great seniors who did nothing of note in the pros.  Michigan lost two starting Offensive linemen on consecutive plays late in this game that hurt them all year.  This was the second best team I have ever seen MIchigan field.  This was back in a time when Michigan played a competitive non=conference schedule every year.  No MAC teams.  Always teams for quality conferences.

Agreed

I think we are on the verge of seeing a huge drop off in attendance at Michigan Stadium.  They need to reverse the trend quickly and definiively or people will find other things to do on Saturdays, andthere are many other things one can do with their fall saturdays then drive to Ann Arbor..

For Sure

For sure Hoke would have been back if he won out and Brandon was still here. I think he probably still gone if he wins out, but that will completely depend then on the decision maker, as Hoke has done enough that both keeping and firing could justified.  We definitely would be better if he was canned, but I could see keeping him if he won out.  Give him a chance to coach his seniors.  It would also depend on the way the next three wins go.  If it's two 30 point wins and then squeek out a win against OSU, that's better for hoke than 3 two point wins to finish.  I don't think Hoke will ever win big here.  It is better to hire someone else at the end of the year.

SEC has 3 in top 4 of playoff

I saw the SEC had three of the four playoffs teams as of this week.  I will not watch the so called playoffs if there are 3 SEC teams in. There isn't nearly enough cross sectional games played on a yearly basis to know for sure who the best teams are or who the best conference is.  Despite the hype they need one only from each of the power conferences, and that will still leave one out.

Can't blame any recruit

I can't blame any recruit for decommiting now.  You have to really want to go to U of M to stay on with this sinking ship.  One thing about this kid though, if I remember right, didn't hear tear his ACL.  I have to believe that he won't has as many offers with that situation.  Perhaps I am wrong.  Also, I don't thik it's a given that a speed change of direction player can always return to full strength after an injury like that.

Ain't comin back

Richrod isn't coming back, just to be clear.  I expect he'd coach at Eastern, Western, or Central Michigan before he would coach at Ann Arbor again.

5 - 7

I am probably a bit optomistic to say 5-7, but I think they will scrap together 2 wins in the next 3 games, and then Hoke and Brandon are both broomed after seasons end.  I have no prediction about who coaches.  Best guess is it won't be one of the Harbaughs or Miles, it'll be some successful coach from a lessor college program.

Your Right

As pessemistic as I am about Michigan's chances, this is 11 men against 11 at any given time.  A victory is by no means impossible.  Most teams play above there heads at least once per year anyway.

No

No, 3-4 was actually fairly easy to see, I only missed that we lost to Minnesota and I thought we would lose to Penn St. Only exceptionally optimistic fans would see our poor offensive line and think we could lose a 1st round left tackle but we would be better, and what about Hoke’s record would make anyone think he could go on the road and win at Rutgers, much less Notre Dame.  Utah beat Stanford and plays in a better conference then us so I figured that was a loss.

After the train wreck that was the bowl, a true pounding at the hands of a mediocre team, I had no faith that the OSU game was anything more than the one great game aberration that happens most years in college football. Every team has one great game per season in them where they play over their heads.  You never know when your team is going to have it, but it’s often in rivalry games against a much better opponent.

Religion

If Michigan Football is your religion I’d say you have a false hope.  It is a business, and for the participants it is something to do and or a career path.  Personally my hope and faith is in Jesus Christ.  Football is just something to watch on Saturday’s, and I personally think overpriced to watch live.

The best seat in the house is in the living room in front of the HD TV, maybe with friends or alone.  No parking, no dealing with the crowds.  The bathroom is just a short walk away.  There is no line.  You have your choice of a large selection of snacks available if you want it, even a beer if you wish.  You didn’t just pay whatever outrageous price is now being charged for a below average pretzel or hot dog.  You don’t have to go up and down 200 stairs to get them.  At halftime if you have buddies there you can go out and throw the football around, even play a game of touch.

When the game is over you turn off the TV and your done.  You can watch another game or do any one of 100 things other than fight the crowds more to get to your car, and then maybe sit in a traffic jam and spend an hour or much longer getting home. If you want some fresh air you can just take a nice stroll after the game in the peace and quiet of your own neighborhood.

It is good to hear the band live though.

Sacrilege?

Any these uniforms sacred?  I thought they were just uniforms.

I would do away with the legends jerseys.  Let the kids have there own numbers and make their own marks.  I would though also like to see us use our standard uniforms more often.  If they want to do something different, where throwbacks.  No need for a different uniform look just to make some more dollars.  Of course, that tactic wouldn't work at all if enough folks just wouldn't fall for it and buy them.

Way early

It's really way early to start talking about next year. I am not convinced Hoke goes even at 5 - 7, but he probably will. I think if he claws to 6-6 he stays, which was my prediction at the start of the season. I actually think if Hoke stays were probably still 7 - 5. That is not an endorsement of Hoke, I just believe that the O-line has to improve with age and experience, and between 4 quarterbacks, one of Bellomy, Morris, Speight, and Malzone has to be a somewhat competant starter.

If we got Harbaugh, I am not sure he would be 10-2 or 11-1 right out of the gate.  I think even with Harbaugh it’ll take until 2016 to really get rolling.  To many weak links, too much of a complacent attitude.  To many guys that have now grown accustomed to losing.  Harbaugh’s or similar replacement is probably 9 -3.

I am not at all surprised to see Josh Furman excelling.  I really expected big things out of him.  He came in as an excellent athlete, supposedly was clocked at under 4.4 speed.  I would say his was a tremendous waste of talent here at U of M.

Leadership and turnovers

Success had us feeling back then that we'd made the right hire. It is not difficult to read into facts what we want out of them. This is a bottom line business and the bottom line was Hoke got wins his first year. A coach is a genius when he win, a bozo when he loses.

I think teams that perform the best are teams that are led from within. I think the 2011 team had really solid senior leadership.  I think the 1997 also had superior leadership.  Also turnovers, the 2011 team benefited greatly from a huge turnover margin.  Realistically that 2011 team probably should have been 9-4 rather than 11-2, and 9-4 doesn’t look nearly as good.  I think Hoke lucked into a team with good senior leadership, he did not develop it himself, but got credit for it.

Kinda seems

It kinda seems like a joke application was accepted.

Sheridan

From what I've seen on the field, I'd take Sheridan over Morris for the next game.

Desmond over both

He was easily the most dangerous, electric kick returner I have ever seen at Michigan.  I am surprised he's not higher on the total yardage list.  I would think he has the highest average per return.

?

Outside of Funchess, whose been hurt most of the season, I don't think any of them have looked particularly good.  Most of the time I see Wilson its chasing someone down the field.  Norfleet has yet to make any significant impact.  Does he even have a touchdown yet?  Bolden is ok.  James Ross looks like he's regressed.  Ondre Pipkins is a complete bomb.  Ojemudia is ok.

Some members of every recruiting class will play, otherwise you wouldn't even field a team.  There is a difference in playing and really being good.

I don't think it would have mattered if we got NIcholson.  I expect we would have squandered his talent also.

Yeah who cares who wins or losses

Certainly not the fans who pay whatever ridiculous price Michigan presently charges for their tickets.

Ridin the Titanic this season

End of the year.

I stopped caring last season.

When I saw the train wreck that was Michigan last year, especially after in the Nebraska game, I just realized we totally sucked, and would suck for the foreseeable future, and then I really just realized we'd sucked or been mediocre at best for quite a while. It was at that point I started to expect to MIchigan to lose. I changed from an I expect us to turn it around mindset to I believe it once I've seen it for a while, and I don't mean a lucky flash in the pan 10-2 regular season, I mean some sustained excellence we have not seen since the 90's. Frankly except for 2006, we have been at best just above average some seasons.

I used to really enjoy watching OSU lose, now I don’t even care about that.  A lot of people are really going to need to find other things to fill their fill their fall Saturday’s. I for one am finding a certain amount of enjoyment in watching this train wreck. It is interesting and humorous along with being a little bit sad.  It is also curing me of this rather idiotic fanhood I have had for several decades, this devotion to a team that has not rewarded me consistently in a decade and a half.  There will probably come a point where the train wreck in no longer interesting and I will completely lose interest.

I completely lost interest in Michigan basketball for about 15 years, after the careers of the five flops.  By the five flops I mean that fabulously overrated recruiting class we had at the end of the fab five era, including the number one recruit in the country Jerod Ward, the group of whom I think never managed anything other than one NCAA tournament playoff win.  It wasn’t until we started 19-0 and ranked number one a couple years back that I actually started to tune in again.

I imagine unless we turn it around soon myself and most other fans will completely lose interest and not even bother unless the team becomes a real bonafide contender.

Him and Brandon

Well, him and Brandon can just watch next years home games all by themselves.
