CC: UM Job Search Watch

Submitted by WineAndSpirits on

This post is predicated on the concept that all open, or theoretically soon to be open, positions at the University must be posted. Maybe the later is wishful thinking...

Unfortunately, you are out of luck for athletic department or coaching jobs, unless you are:

  • a volunteer coach (Women's Lacrosse)
  • a video coordinator (Men's Lacrosse)
  • a temporary personal trainer
  • athletic facilities assistant

Go see for yourself:

I've done a little research, and I'm unable to confirm whether either Hoke, Brandon, or Nussmeier's jobs were ever posted.

So, any of you potential coaching or AD candidates, just move along. There's nothing to see here... yet.

I think when the job is officially open is when the job posting happens.  I thought someone said it was a state law that public offices be officially posted.

Is that they identify a candicate and gets a verbal commitment from that person before they officially post it - if/when a job posting is done then it's a sign that it's already a done deal, NOT that they are beginning a search.

That's how a fair number of jobs in upper management tend to get filled, in my experience - the posting sometimes is basically a formality in lieu of making an announcement regarding who will in fact get the position. Of course, I don't think you have to post it in the private sector, but we do for some reason. As mentioned above, as it is a publicly-paid position (the law applies this to anyone who salary is paid either in full or in part by the state treasury), it has to be posted for a week even if it is a formality.

the process is for show most of the time.  it is adhered to in name only.  forms are filled in and signed is the closest it comes to being a real process.

from the sounds of things, brady was chosen as the next coach when DBag was hired.  DBad just had to follow procedure to make it look good.  DBag wanted quite yes men under him and Brade Hoke fills the bill.  another thread made note that if DB stays, it would not be surprising that brady is here next year too.  Brady has done everything that DB has wanted.

Bounce back? Are fucking joking? Hoke has said the season is a failure if they don't win the Big Ten. So far he has failed for 3 season and pending a shit-storm will fail in his 4th year too. The offensive line sucks and defense is over-rated. Dude should should be fired immediately.

Dave Brandon may not be as smart as he thinks he is but I doubt he would post a position that was still filled.

Saw Dan Mullen on Sports Center talking to his team after yesterday's victory.  Talked about domination on every play.  Nothiing wrong with that kind of intensity/passion.  Perhaps every coach shares that but I am taking notice because of this year's success at MSU (NTMSU).

to reach out to tell Mullen UM is going to make him an offer right now in order to prevent him from signing the extension that is going to be laid on him after this season right where he is.

And he'd have to let him know in addition to meeting the salary and built in bonus clauses for wins, he'd also receive a not unlike Brandon benefit of two autos, but these have to be top of line Lincolns, every other year for both him and his spouse and, of course, a rent free home in the area of his choice for the duration of his time at UM. Although the Ole Miss upset of Bama was the biggest shocker of he year as it was the biggest win since the original Manning played there, Mullen is the hot commodity this season. Patterson would be difficult to get as well because he is able to build great teams merely with the leftovers of the Big Three in TX, and we simply don't provide that amount of talent after our one, maybe two 5 stars and no more than 8 to 9 4 stars and MSU has exclusive rights to those as of now and steadily rising in taking the majority of the first group, although their vetting process for this classification has proven better than ours as well as same for the second classification. JMO, but along with RR, I know of no one who is able to produce so much out of those overlooked by the gurus. It is quite possible, however, as it occurs in CA and FL as well that these various rating services will only give a state a certain amount of blue chippers to increase excitement and subscriptions in other areas of the country. In fact, it was a Rivals guru who was quoted approximately 7-8 years ago, when speaking of the state of Alabama, "This is a very strange year in Alabama. They have an inordinate amount of players that deserved the 5th star, but we simply had to stop in order to keep interest high in other regions." We all know that neither of these two coaches puts much merit in the gurus anyway because their ratings are weighed so heavily toward future NFL probability and many of their players won't be able to make that list based on size alone and has no direct reflection on what they can bring to a college program. Hell in his last year at WVU, RR had the Rimington Award Winner, a 3 star and 2 others on the OL chosen to AA squads that came out of h.s. with n/r beside their name. These two are a rare, extremely rare breed. And as to Casteel, I don't know why Martin wouldn't bend on an additional 50K for Casteel, but if I were RR, I would have gladly reduced my own salary by 50K. If he had done so, his second year, after LC's defense was gone, he could have plugged his in and he'd probably still be here, so that's largely his fault.

I think the OPs point or question was whether looking at the UofM online postings might be an early indicator that DB's or Hoke's job is now open. If so, it's worth keeping an eye on. However, I'd think that there's so much interest in this story regionally and nationally, there's bound to be leaks and rumblings from other sources first. Camping out at the job postings will not be the early indicator if a firing is imminent, IMO.

Ill worry about the coaching search once Brandon is fired...

I just spoke to someones father who's son played for mich during the RR years and some of Hoke era..

He mentioned an interesting tidbit i have never heard before..  But apparently when RR was hired he didn't put the details into his contract about bringing Jeff Casteel with him to michigan.

Martin apparently forced RR to hire Greg Robinson and gave him no choice in who he could actually hire to run his defense.  Sad but true for those of us who have wondered if our AD's are the ones forcing these coaches to do certain things they don't want to do...

This dad mentioned speaking with Greg Robinson a few times and how pathetic of a coach he was just talking X's and O's.. but we already knew that.

Les Miles should be highly considered for the next Michgan Head Coach.  High ethics, a players coach, a great recruiter.  Let's get this guy.

There's no such thing as high ethics. Every one on this board is a saint, does nothing wrong and donates their entire life savings to charity. You don't?! Well, you gon learn today (Kevin Hart reference).

If you honestly care about ethics in college football, your watching the wrong sport. OR, you're willing to lose for a long time.

EVERY program bends the rules. So bend more than others. If you don't believe that, I have some beach front property in kalkaska that you have to buy.

he might be ok. But I'm certain Lloyd would have the new AD take blood work prior to signing, and yes, it would have to random and often.  Then again without these, he probably would not be able to coach as well - too much stress - so he wouldn't be a good fit anyway. But I do agree with you. He's getting the job done in the (Shit Everyone Cheats)
