You Have 4 Saturdays Until FOOTBALL - What Are You Doing With Them?

Submitted by XM - Mt 1822 on August 6th, 2022 at 8:56 AM

Mates,

Counting today, there are 4 open Saturdays until actual, real, count-'em-because-they-count college football games will be played.  Summer is here (hot today in the mitten state) and there are only so many days left to do your weekend projects, knock out a trip or vacation of some sort, get out on your boat, etc.

So the question is quite simple:  What are you doing these last days, particularly these last weekends of summer as football looms?

May all those plans come to fruition, and may you enjoy every bit of them.

I believe the plan is:

Today - hosting a dinner for my daughter - a few of her close friends. - and their parents, before all the kids head back to college.  I’ll be grilling.  So, it’s some honey do’# around the house, trip to the butcher, etc..   I hope I can fit in a round of golf tomorrow afternoon.

Two weekends from now - driving the kids to A2 and move them in for the year.  I’m pretty sure we’l dine out - just not sure where… probably on / near Main Street.  Though, if there’s free time, a round of golf at the U course could be nice.  (Not sure if there will be room for my clubs, though.).  Oh, for sure a stop by Roos Roast or Black Diesel daily.  We were in red busy during a HOT move in weekend last year - didn’t have time to do much except eat, sleep, shop for extra things they needed, and “install” stuff.

Next weekend  -:honey do’s at home.. gutter cleaning, fertilizing the grass, checking on the gardens progress,  squeeze in a round of golf if I can, etc…

Four weeks away That’s the home opener - not sure if we’ll go to the game, or offer our tickets to others.

I have a 3 year old boy and a 6 month old daughter... pretty much spending my Saturdays doing what they want to do!

Luckily, when game day Saturday comes, my son loves watching the game with me until he has to go to bed.

Yeah, I know! My son turns 4 in November.  We're actually going to be back in the US for Thanksgiving this year so I hope to take him up to campus to see all the stadiums.

He demands a TON of my time playing with him! I need to get into better shape to keep up with him!

Robin, my two children are twins, a boy and girl - throughout my life I have tried to treat them equally.  However, there were / are differences.

When I put them to bed at night, when they were toddlers, I sang to each of them.  I’d sing “My Favorite Things” to my daughter, and “The Victors” to my son.

Both are about to start their sophomore year at Michigan.

Well. Might get out of bed, have breakfast, check the weather and if it looks clear for the day? Go for an interesting ride while listening to some music and pondering various important and not-so-important stuff.

Or? Might take a ride into a neighboring state and look for/at places where the "dear scion" could live after he manages to Escape From New York (see 1981 film for storyline).

Or? Might go to a marina to smell the water, listen to the sounds of waves, motors, rigging clacking, etc. just to have a good time and lower the stress levels and BP.

Or? Might get finally get around to that last Project That Shall Not Be Named that I have successfully evaded for close to 2 years because even I have my limits regarding how lazy I can be sometimes.

Such is the life of a lazy Wolverine on weekends ...

Monday? Back at it!

Hey. You do realize that for some people, an adrenaline dump while riding on the edge is calming, don't you? ;-)

Even my doctor said "sounds reasonable", and he's never wrong (and he's an Iowa Hawkeye, reportedly good on defense (usually, well ... sometimes (ref: 42-3)).

Edit/Add: drifting is fun but it is slow. Feel for and find the edge and then ride it perfectly for best track times.

Beta, I hear you.  And, if conditions allow it - open Interstate - low / no traffic - I am very comfortable driving at a speed of “1XX”.   It’s one of many reasons why I enjoy driving in parts of Europe.

Last year, I had a very fun drive - returning to Chicago from A2.  It was early in the morning - Sun was out - and another driver and I had had a “fun, speedy, respectful drive” between Jackson and Paw Paw, where he exited.  It’s fair to say - we both enjoyed the company while driving “at speed”.

Yep! There are a few pleasures that some men never outgrow. Helps the time go by on long drives. :-)

My younger days thrill rides were either through western PA on I-80 to/from A2 or up/down the Taconic Pkwy south of Albany, NY. In later years, it was a run through the cold desert outside Vegas traveling to/from LA on I-15. "I can see for miles and miles". There is also a connector road here in New England that is quite perfect for many reasons.

Wanna grin like a kid again? Check out the SCDA (as in scda1 dot com), rent a car for a day on a local, sanctioned track and work with an in-car instructor to get your lap times up.

Hint: rent the car, not the helmet, just buy the right helmet where you can. Or you can bring your own car, just over-inflate your tires and be prepared to say buh-bye to them at day's end. And change the oil (and filter) both before and after. At day's end, you will be a much different driver. Work up to Intermediate Level. Enjoy!

Thanks for the report. I will now consult with myself and by the time I reach a decision, it will be September 3. So for me, the 4 weeks don't exist.
