You Have 4 Saturdays Until FOOTBALL - What Are You Doing With Them?

Submitted by XM - Mt 1822 on August 6th, 2022 at 8:56 AM

Mates,

Counting today, there are 4 open Saturdays until actual, real, count-'em-because-they-count college football games will be played.  Summer is here (hot today in the mitten state) and there are only so many days left to do your weekend projects, knock out a trip or vacation of some sort, get out on your boat, etc.

So the question is quite simple:  What are you doing these last days, particularly these last weekends of summer as football looms?

May all those plans come to fruition, and may you enjoy every bit of them.

Yea, it’s weird that my wife knew she’d die early and regularly talked about it as if to prepare me and our kids. She wanted to go first and had me promise to always be there for the kids. So, after the accident there was never a doubt in my mind that I’d make it through. I couldn’t let my kids lose both of their parents that day.  The docs told my kids I’d be in rehab for over a year. I was out and back home two weeks later. God is good!

Wow, it's coming up so fast.  While I'm anxious for CFB I'd rather have another eight weeks of summer.. my lawn, not so much.

The current plan looks roughly like:

This weekend - various projects inside, mow the weeds at a parent's place
Next weekend - not sure, maybe projects in the garage and the quarterly rearming of exterior critter bait stations
The one after that - maybe the Ren Fest and more weed mowing
The one after that - tailgating with the stupid rules LAZ and the AAFD are laying down, watching M go 1-0, then fall overseeding and bringing back out sprinklers

Maybe somewhere in there a trip up north for a weekend.

Moving my family from a large school district with 2800 kids in the high school to a rural community in the thumb with about 60 in a graduating class.  Moving from teaching high school to being the elementary principal and my wife will be one of my teachers.  My kids tried it out in the spring and claim to be much happier in a smaller school. It's a big leap but I'm hoping to slow life down a little in a smaller community.  The big move is next weekend and then a couple weeks of touching up before football.  The only bummer is a two hour drive to Ann Arbor instead of one.

I never, ever wanted to be an administrator during my teaching career--I don't like talking to and appeasing parents that much. But I have a lot of respect for all of the administrators I worked with over the years, except one, and I still have a little respect for that one, too! Best of luck in the new position, and may all of your family adapt well to the change!

Next Friday, we are having a going away party for my daughter, and the following weekend we will be en route to D.C., where she'll be starting college. The following weekend, I'll probably still be in mourning over the newly empty nest, and the following, too. This is one year, in particular, where I'll really be needing football to occupy me.

It’s really for my son as well. He has his group of friends here. Friday night is Monster Pizza and fireside. Today was 7 hours on the lake. Jet sking and tubing and fishing. Brought some smoked pull pork and 5 cheese Mac n Cheese. Tomorrow is dependent upon the weather (suppose to rain). Been doing this for 17 years. Northeast Lower Peninsula.
my son plays MIKE LB and RB. How about yours?

today was Lou Whitaker day at Comerica with my best friend in section 113.  We’ve been Tiger fans since the early 80’s and grew up in Troy together.   Great day and game for LOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUU’s #1 to be retired by the ball club.

Have to endure Blake Shelton at Soaring Eagle next weekend.  my wife’s idea.

As for the remaining Saturday’s, probably get the kids out on the new kayak that I got from the family for my birthday last Sun.  Gutters need to be cleaned and flex seal applied, straighten out the garage, and cut and burn tree limbs.  hit some weeds with the flame thrower, grind stumps and till some dirt.

Two day chain of lakes pontoon boat ride from Petoskey to Cheboygan via Crooked Lake, Burt Lake and Pickeral Lake.  The Playboy golf outing…not like it sounds but not bad either. A pickle ball tournament. And a wedding.
