What’s some good news?

Submitted by Clarence Beeks on January 29th, 2024 at 9:49 AM

It’s been a weird ride since January 8th with a ton of twists and turns, with feels like a continual string of mostly unfortunate news since that mountaintop high. Can we turn that tide and find the good? What are things that we are enjoying, looking forward to, etc.?

Well, I don't have to worry that some dudes with rifles are going to break down my door and gun me and my family down because I don't believe the same things as they do. Or if a bomb is going to plumet through my ceiling at any moment and incinerate me. Unlike millions of real people around the world as you're reading this. So, you know, that's pretty good news.

We're national champions. This season was a beautiful ending to a beautiful story. Jim leaving was sad, but expected, and I'm happy he gets to pursue his other dreams. In some odd way, I'm glad it ended this way.

Heartbreaking Lions loss after their best season in my lifetime, Ben Herbert leaving, etc - these things are unfortunate but they don't even register for me in comparison.

We're national champions, and I'll be happy for the next 15 years. And I'm excited about the next chapter with Sherrone.

^^^^. Exactly. Michigan is National Champs- defeated the SEC champs (Bama in Saban’s last game) along the way, forcing O$U to buy a team, and did it with a culture that’s admirable - a team playing like The Team.

If this upcoming season is “bumpy” - I’m ok with it. The NC is something we’ll hold on to for very long time.

I wish Harbaugh would have stayed in A2. If the “choice” was - A) Michigan wins the NC and Harbaugh leaves, or B) Michigan loses in the CFP and Harbaugh stays - which would you pick? I think I’d select option “A”.

After Jim takes half the staff with him we will know very quickly whether or not Sherrone is cut out for the job. There will be no 5 year deterioration, he’s gonna have to replace half the staff so he’ll sink or swim quickly

Nothing really matters except for the things YOU think matter. So if that's your family, great. Focus on your family. If it's your job, great, focus on your job. If you just want to fuck off to some tropical island and live a quiet life, great, do that. Things matter because you think they matter.

We are national champions. You guys gotta just enjoy it this offseason and stop stressing about future seasons. We only get titles once in a generation. Enjoy it and stop worrying for a few months

Teams lose coaches when they have tremendous success. Georgia lost their OC in Monken. They lost their DC in Lanning. It happens.
Michigan has built a national champion program, and everyone, especially Ohio State, has to sit with that until at least 2025. 😃

Let's not doom n gloom here after the most amazing season in college football history..

We got a new strength coach who is a carry over from our last coach who helped us win the national championship. Sounds good

I realize I'm in the minority but the only ride I've had is a high ride. I will begin to think about next year's team somewhere around the Spring Game.

I haven't read about any job hunting. Haven't read about transfers out or in.

I know who left but in name and where only.

I'm 61. I didn't know if this would ever happen again in my lifetime. It happened. I will think of nothing but winning the championship until the first snap of spring.

I still smile and say a little "yes" when I think about it.

I'm looking forward to spring football. The Qb and OL competition. Excited to see what Jaishawn Barham's versatility brings to the defense. Josiah Stewart and Moore will continue to grow as players. A full season of Will Johnson playing like a top 5 pick.

We just hired the first African American head football coach at the University of Michigan. He is 37 years old. He's a virtually unanimous choice. And, we just won a natty. Chill bro, everything is going to be fine.

The first two points are just footnotes, not really anything that reflects on his ability or likelihood of success (hopefully he will be).

Being near unanimous isn't necessarily a good thing - especially when there were few realistic options available.

Winning the national championship is cool - no doubt.

We can celebrate the accomplishments from last year while legitimately pointing out the major questions about next year.

Personally, I'm expecting 8-4 as the floor... maybe 11-1 as the ceiling.

I welcome a thread pointing out the good things we have; that we need one three weeks after winning a national championship, however, is a fulsome condemnation of a sadly sizable portion of the fan base.

There's a ton of upside in the Moore hire, including recruiting. Not "news" as of yet, I guess, but reasonable projection. Moore has proven to be an excellent recruiter, and now he can shape overall Michigan recruiting into what he wants it to be. It's possible that a perfect storm of factors--Wild West NIL, an NCAA that's lashing out with its last breath, Warde, and Jim's own weirdness--mean that Michigan is currently in its worst recruiting period of the burgeoning Pay the Players Era. I could be wrong, I guess, but I feel like over time, one of the richest and most storied programs, which recently won a national title, will average out better than like 14th in the recruiting rankings

We have a crystal ball sitting in the trophy case. We just witnessed an incredible 3 year run, we just witnessed what is almost certainly one of the Big Ten's two best teams since 1950, and possibly it's best team ever, and one of "The North's" best teams since the Ivies stopped being competitive.

We just went through an all time great era and season. And guess what? We are still going to be pretty good next year. 10 wins, beat Ohio. Again. Future press conference: "Donovan, how'd it feel to have a big game against OSU?" DE- "Which one?"

I'm excited for the Sherrone Moore era to begin! Not happy about Jim and the others leaving and how things were handled by U of M, but I think Sherrone is absolutely the right man for the job.

We're national champions until proven otherwise, and that still feels good as hell. It'll probably keep me smiling for a long, long time. And I love Sherrone, especially after the Penn State game, so that's some good news.

It turns out NASA’s Mars helicopter was much more revolutionary than we knew

Ingenuity packed more computing power than all other NASA deep space missions combined.

An image from Ingenuity, looking down at the surface of Mars. That's its shadow.

There you go. I am okay with things now.

For me personally, felt pretty strong doing my first XC skiing race out here in Tahoe. 24 K with over 1700 feet of climbing

From a sports standpoint

1) Stoked to see Sinner get his first grand slam.

2) Jesse Diggins winning a 20K skate race and leading the women's WC standings.

I’m excited to see who Sherrone brings in from the outside. While it is nice to retain some staff, seeing who Sherrone thinks can improve the program is always good. Fresh blood is vital.

I'm with you. While it'd be great to keep the staff that just won the national championship together we knew we'd be down at least a HC and DC.

I'm all for promoting from within if that's the best option, but right now we have a first time HC and I think it'd probably benefit him, and the program, to bring in some experienced coordinators. The reality of successful football programs is that you're gonna lose your coaches at some point and while turnover sucks I think the foundation that Harbaugh, and Moore, built is stable enough to weather this 'storm' if you wanna call it that.

Counting my blessings:

- Michigan won the Natty

- Lions won two playoff games

- Wings in the playoff picture

- Not six feet under and breathing air!

- Today is a new day to go be great

God bless this community of Wolverine faithful!

Here is some genuinely good news:

More often than not, a new, incoming coach is moving into a new place and setting up shop.

Also, quite often at least, the team they are joining was a dumpster fire - old coach got hisself fired.

Moore has been a huge part of this entire National Championship build. He has learned first hand what works and the kind of people he needs. He KNOWS if Herbert's #2 can take over as S&C coach. He KNOWS if there's a guy already on staff he wants to hand the DC job to.

It's still gonna be a big job, but under the circumstances, he's as well-positioned as it's possible to be.

Please stop the BPONE!

We have a national title, three B1G in a row (first time since 1976-78 we finished top dog), a young and exciting HC, a great D coming back.

Well for the time being, the foundation pieces Michigan is counting on for the 2024 season have not entered the transfer portal. For all of the anger about losing Herbert and Minter, we would be in real trouble if guys like Will Johnson, Mason Graham, Colston Loveland, Kenneth Grant and Rod Moore entered the portal.

A gentle reminder that we're still in the same month in which we (1) beat Alabama to win the Rose Bowl, and (2) beat Washington to win a national championship.
