Not so sure. Is there a better starting 4 on DL? Show me
and the critical pieces for the defense for the scheme are in the secondary. LB much more replaceable in the scheme I think. And our safeties and CB1 are going to be insane next year
Not clear he’d have been better but there’s a good case to be made that Minter was the best Xs and Os guy on the staff. He produced a generationally good defense the likes of which we may not see again in our lifetimes at Michigan. Meanwhile did Moore ever crack the top 5 in offensive S&P+?
doesnt make him the best for the CEO spot tho. Moore may (probably does?) have better qualities there
After Jim takes half the staff with him we will know very quickly whether or not Sherrone is cut out for the job. There will be no 5 year deterioration, he’s gonna have to replace half the staff so he’ll sink or swim quickly
Really raiding the cupboards there Jim! Any other assistants who will provide a marginal advantage at best for you but has the opportunity to devastate Michigan?
Agreed, and frankly I don't think we're so far off. If we could even hover between 5-10 most of the time, rather than always struggling to crack the top 10, a very strong S&C program and good positional coaches can easily make up the gap. It's a lot harder and less likely year to year when you're closer to #15 in the country in recruiting
Our enjoyment of the recent national championship should not engender this pervasive sense of complacency. We are Michigan, and we should strive for excellence. The one does not preclude the other as we should be more than capable of walking and chewing gum simultaneously
But I agree - this past year will represent the pinnacle of sports fandom for me, and I doubt I will ever love a team and a season the same way. And yet,
Unclear to me why we should employ someone with such a mindset. But I don't have any view into how the regents / president operate here, maybe he does a bunch of really awesome stuff that excuses his mediocre approach to everything that is visible to the fans. Maybe!
Seems so short-sighted. Starving the money maker into mediocrity to pay for what, exactly? I love women's SB and the bball team as much as everybody but how can he be so confused as to what his money maker is?
Exactly this. We have the look and feel of a perennial 9-3/10-2 type of program that can break out maybe once every quarter century. It took a HOF-caliber NFL and college coach to do so, with a 5* quarterback and a seasoned group of veterans who were desperate to stay and win a title. This feels very, very unrepeatable
And maybe that's what the AD wants. 9-3, beat OSU once every three or four years, beat MSU 2/3 or 3/4 of the time, and coin flip vs. PSU. I guess it could be worse but it's not super exciting
What doesn’t make sense to me is how we’re wealthy enough of a fan base to win the edsbs charity drive every year (which is a great cause!) but we can’t seem to fundraise as well as a bunch of Cleveland truck drivers?
Probably because that resume more or less describes Macdonald and Minter as well, and he's rumored to be a very similar hire in terms of capability and scheme
Are you kidding? He’s extremely odd, I would not want him to be the primary employer of all of our head coaches. I love him but he seems unsuited to the job to me
not that many five star types, lots of these guys aren’t Georgia or Florida takes right now if we’re being honest. Michigan with Sherrone is still obviously a lot more attractive than Wisconsin or Cincinnati
Don't buy this bullshit. Too late for what? He hadn't signed anything. He wanted to stay at Michigan, he could've stayed at Michigan. He didn't, and he left. Time to move on and stop blaming those who are still here. Good luck in the NFL, we have bigger fish to fry
Not true. If Michigan says you know what best offer, take it now or we’re keeping the existing contract, his negotiating leverage with NFL teams declines massively as well
Those around here blaming Warde for everything should take a deep breath and realize Harbaugh is driving a hard bargain. I don't blame anyone for negotiating around these clauses as some of them seem aggressive
Right now he’s one of the greatest coaches we’ve had. Give it another 5-10 years and we name everything related to the program that is possibly namable after him
Feels like we beat the game. I love the game, so I'm going to reset the Nintendo and play it again, and then again, and then again, because the game is the best one ever made, but the stakes won't ever feel the same. Because we already beat the game
Ah yes I was wondering about college hockey, and not looking for any content on the college football national championship game we’re playing in on Monday
Comparing Juwan’s situation - inheriting a top-10 program, perennial competitor for the Big Ten, national championship aspirations - to what Beilein and Harbaugh inherited strikes me as completely insane, as does comparing their respective track records.
Harbaugh and Beilein both inherited programs that were out wandering in the wilderness and turned them around, and both had decades of prior success to point to. Howard’s trajectory and performance looks to me more like a worse version of Ryan Day, with bouts of anger management issues to boot
I agree we should be patient and wait for more info, but comparing these situations seems wild to me

I mean sure if you only list the good things and ignore all his painfully obvious shortcomings it sounds impossible
My first reaction is not terribly impressed with this. Hope I’m wrong
Nice!
Thank Jesus
Dude what the actual fuck
That’s one in the yes column!
Should we re-up the “will you root for Jim at the Chargers” question? Curious how the poll looks now :-)
After Jim takes half the staff with him we will know very quickly whether or not Sherrone is cut out for the job. There will be no 5 year deterioration, he’s gonna have to replace half the staff so he’ll sink or swim quickly

I love Jim but fuck him for this one. Fuck him

The answer certainly appears to be "good luck with the diamonds lol"
I don't agree with this at all, but rational minds may differ I suppose.

Or fuck it let's hire Wink Martindale lol
Not that we all didn't…
FUCK
Not that we all didn't know it was happening but still
Can we take the Third Raven That Was Prophesied??
Go get em coach!
Are you kidding? He’s extremely odd, I would not want him to be the primary employer of all of our head coaches. I love him but he seems unsuited to the job to me
where will they…
Also like
where will they go

Lfgggggg
…
What does this even mean
Isnt It like a 20 page document, max? I’ll shit out a draft in the next 20 minutes, send me Warde’s email
How lazy is that fat fuck
Yeah but it’s still an argument
He can remove all arguments if he so chooses
but he might just want a SB ring, who knows
There’s a legacy and there’s a Legacy
Right now he’s one of the greatest coaches we’ve had. Give it another 5-10 years and we name everything related to the program that is possibly namable after him

2022 OSU. That’s when it started to become real

You never know with young guys development but he feels like he could be all America level in another year or so, easily
Harbaugh retired Saban holy shit
Johnson, Graham, and Zinter are my best guesses
Yes
don’t worry, I very much did not read it
In seriousness though, not a single post this week on Washington? What am I missing?
Ah yes I was wondering about college hockey, and not looking for any content on the college football national championship game we’re playing in on Monday
thank you
Are you happy with the general trajectory right now? I am not
