Unfortunately it’s the truth

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields believes something else might be in play.

“We take it more seriously than they do," Fields said. "Like (strength coach) Mickey Marotti said, 'We're preparing for them next year right now.' It just means more at Ohio State. That's pretty much the big reason.

"I know a few players on (Michigan), and i just know the things we do in terms of workouts and how serious we take it at Ohio State. So, talking to those guys, and getting their perspective on things, I definitely see we take it more serious than them

The college football world has passed Michigan by

We're no longer a powerhouse, we're a has been.

But don't you ducking worry because there is still enough bullshit Michigan arrogance to get us through the next 10 losses to osu

Better coaches, better players, and fewer mental errors for sure. I don't know if "they don't take it seriously" is even among the top five reasons why OSU kicks our asses.

In 2016 and 2018, Michigan spent time in the top 4 of the playoff rankings.

In both OSU games, the defense couldn’t get needed stops to get over the top. Couldn’t stop a thing FG drive and then gave up 2 OT touchdowns in ‘16 and then last year’s debacle.

Today was supposed to show us what Brown learned. I guess not much.

Dont think it has much to do with taking it seriously.

Meh.

Whatever.

As long as Don Brown treats every play like 3rd and 2 and puts guys 1 on 1 against equal or better athletes, that’s the problem that needs to be fixed first.

It’s like in Remember the Titans where Yost threatened to pull every last one of them out if they gave up another yard. That mentality is what causes people to call blitzes on 2nd and 19.

A mediocre offense can beat you if they know what the defense is doing. Imagine what an elite offense can do when they know what the defense is doing. Scratch that. We already know. They can score 117 points in 2 games.

It's not true. They're the victors and they get to say whatever they want and it looks true. Fields could get up and say "Every day we pray to the god Molech that he will bless us with football victories over Michigan" and the next hour everyone will be typing out "WHY ISN'T MICHIGAN UTILIZING THE GOD MOLECH? DOES HARBAUGH CARE ABOUT THE RIVALRY"

That is true, but unfortunately for him, he knows jack shit about OSU and UM. Dude is a transfer. He went to OSU to win. Not because he likes the program, coaches, etc.

Michigan is playing checkers, Ohio State is playing chess. Every single thing they do is better than Michigan. Their program is astronomically better than whatever Jim Harbaugh’s put together in Ann Arbor

Am sorry to say this.... but I think Hackett's Plan B might have turned out better as far as the Game is concerned.... Dan Mullen was Plan B in case Harbaugh wasn't coming...  can't imagine he'd have had such a weak and small DL, let alone gimmick defense.   I doubt he'd have went 1-4  (not 0-5.....the refs stole one).   PJ Fleck was also in the coach search swimlanes.

Bo was Canham's Plan B, too, and Paterno was his first choice.

First off, Justin Fields doesn't know jack shit.  Yea, I'm sure he has friends at UM with whom he compares notes on preparation.  He's just flapping his young gums like a dumbass.

Second,  "we're no longer a powerhouse".... Durrrr...when exactly were we much better than a consistent 8, 9, or 10-win team?  This is who we are.  It's true that we haven't kept up with the academic powerhouses of OSU, Clemson, Oklahoma, and Alabama in that elite circle.  It would be great to join that circle I guess?

Dude‘a been on campus less than a year...and he wants to give lectures about the rivalry

Hopefully someone on the team will shut his ass up next year

It's horseshit. It has everything to do with the talent gap and particularly on the defensive line. Mattison was a garbage recruiter and I for one am glad he's gone. The only decent d lineman we got the last couple of years were legacy guys. He was out of touch with the younger guys and I hope he does the same job recruiting for OSU. You can't have your defensive lineman being outweighed by 40 pounds per man and expect them to hold their ground. Dobbins wasn't touched until he had already gained 5 yards and Wisconsin did the same thing to our undersized line.

Horse shit. This guy has been here less than a year. He doesn’t know anything about the “rivalry.”

But what he DOES know is winning. He came to OSU to win. He can say whatever he wants at this point.

Anybody with eyes and ears know they care more about the rivalry than we do.  It's in their DNA, they plaster their walls with it, THEY PRACTICE EVERY DAY to win The Game, they preach it, their players (even if they're not from Ohio) learn to live and breath to beat Michigan.

Urban Meyer has spent the whole offseason explicitly detailing how much time and effort they put into winning this rivalry.  Meanwhile, we're over here doing whatever.  Just once, it'd be nice to hear Harbaugh state loud and explicitly how beating Ohio State is the number 1 goal and they do nothing but work towards it.

Their offense knows our defense better than our own players seemingly do, given how much they busted today.  Maybe after the 20th defeat in a row, we'll start to really take it seriously.  Until then, most fans will just complain that the talent gap or the coaching gap is too wide (it's not, Auburn just beat Bama, which they've done more times against Saban than we've beat Ohio State since the year 2000).  It's a pride and preparation issue at this point.  Why else are they a well oiled machine every year for this game and we're always a sloppy mess.

I mean, Brady Hoke, genius that he is, never got blown out.  His teams seemed to care and it showed.  His 5-7 squad went to Columbus and held serve against their championship team better than Harbaugh's teams have any year but 2016.

There was an interview with one of the players earlier this week where they basically asked whether they prepare for OSU everyday like OSU says they do for Michigan, with dedicated practice segments, etc. The player hesitated and then just made a general comment about how they're thinking about them everyday. The implication was pretty obvious.

OSU puts every fiber of its being into this game. I don't think it's the main reason they win, but it's the big reason why they continue to outperform expectations against Michigan. It's one thing to lose a close game. Michigan is losing on a Rutgers-esque level in this one. It's why Hoke's teams consistently competed in this game, despite collapsing in just about every other week.

One thing I'll say about this which was a direct quote from Fields after the game is if this isn't posted in every players locker, in the coaches office, in the work out facility, etc.  then we have a serious problem.

You win games like these for two reasons: 1) your opponent doesn’t take it as seriously as you and is looking ahead to a Big 10 championship or the playoff or 2) you have equal talent/coaching and beat them straight up.

Ohio has never hired anyone who doesn’t take the Michigan game as if its life or death since Cooper, so that’s out. The thing Michigan does have control over (recruiting and coaching) they don’t do at a level that’s acceptable to win a game like this. They don’t do a good enough job bringing elite talent onto campus and getting them better. They particularly have done a poor job of translating Don Brown’s defensive statistical excellence into recruiting wins.

I couldn't tell you what our players think or feel, but the results would suggest OSU wants it more.

I would say winning in general is more important to their entire program.  They are more dedicated to getting the best of players and taking acceptable risk in recruiting and skirting the edge of the rules to gain an advantage.

Michigan doesn't do that.  We tout ourselves as being above all these programs that we claim cheats to win and we cling to the ghost of a coach who was able to get his teams ready to beat OSU.  This program and its fanbase it too aligned to the history of Bo to find the best offensive and defensive minds and ignore the lack of a Michigan connection.

We need to get back living and dying over beating OSU and get a head coach that is living in the now, not the past and can motivate his team to want to destroy the opponent for 60 minutes every week and not just show up sometimes.

Spare me the bullshit from a bought-and-paid-for mercenary like Justin Fields. He doesn't know shit about the rivalry nor does he care. He's in Columbus because it's the quickest path to the NFL and he doesn't give a fuck about Ohio State or Michigan or anything that isn't Justin Fields. Screw that guy.

The fan base is exactly that way too. I’ve also never understood why we don’t have a gold pants equivalent. Not playing ND and MSU collapsing will hopefully build up the focus on OSU more.

This is a dumb take by Fields. The disparity has so much more to do with the talent level on the field. Michigan prepares for OSU weekly, but you can’t necessarily overcome the talent differential out of sheer will and effort.
