Maybe there are non -public…

Maybe there are non -public parts of the deal, too, such as:

1) Lifetime free coffee at Java World for the regents.

2) The B1G will allow now holding to be called when our O-Line is held

3) No further NCAA peeking into the possible Stalions CMU appearance. The silence on this matter for the past week makes me wonder if Stalions was moonlighting as a sign-stealing guru for hire. Maybe such a practice is more widespread? It would be in everyone’s interest to stop looking into that.

Saw these stats in the press…

Saw these stats in the press release:

“Hoke is the only active college coach to lead three different FBS programs (Ball State, Michigan and SDSU) to an 11-win season and one of only two coaches overall since 1996 (also Urban Meyer with Utah, Florida and Ohio State).”

Can’t stand the constant…

Can’t stand the constant shouting. Half of the time he’s shouting about something unremarkable like a 1st down run up the middle for 3 yards in the 2nd quarter of a tied game.

Johnson often mispronounces names and just yammers away on cliches and platitudes, e.g. Harbaugh’s record against OSU.

I don’t think Johnson and Klatt prepare very much for games—I didn’t hear either of them remark about Hutchinson tying his father’s single-season sack record with his first sack or tying the record with his second. The fact that Hutchinson’s 3rd sack set a new Michigan record got a brief mention. Meanwhile they were constantly updating us on Treveyon  Henderson’s OSU freshman touchdown record chase.

I believe Kirk Herbstreit…

I believe Kirk Herbstreit was calling the game--and doing a terrible job of it (trolling, blathering, etc).

I was there. I had some…

I was there. I had some tickets which had been comped for my boss (who didn't want to go for obvious reasons), so a friend and I sat on the 45 on the visitor's sideline instead of in our regular seats in the corner of the endzone behind the opponent's band.

Those were the best seats I've ever had, and it was the coldest I've ever been at a game, as it was just above freezing so the precipitation was in the form of rain rather than snow, meaning we couldn't stay dry. I remember wishing the temperature would drop just a few degrees so we could have snow, but no such luck.

I believe Mike Alstott needed less than 100 yards to break the Big 10 rushing record that day, which was thought to be a given, but our defense and the weather conspired to stop him,

Lake Fanny Hooe near Copper Harbor is beautiful and quiet, just a few hundred yards from Lake Superior. There are a couple of small hotels on it, as well as Ft. Wilkins Historic State Park, which has campsites with amazing views.

That was an amazing game! My grandmother and I went and had a great time. The old scoreboards didn't list many stats, so we were all pleasantly surprised to hear over someone's AM radio that Biakabatuka had passed 100 yards in the first quarter.

Halftime also featured a streaker. As I recall, he attempted a Heisman pose, and the security team didn't seem to be a in a big rush to tackle him.

Thanks for the recollection…

Thanks for the recollection. I started at UM in 1988, and fashion was as casual as it is now. I was wondering when the change happened.

The Big Ten hires the refs…

The Big Ten hires the refs and clearly sets the standards for home-cooking officiating and also for a rougher game (which comes back to bite teams like MSU in tournament play when the game is called more properly).

The Big Ten is run by its 14 member schools, and if this system is clearly what they want. If they don't care to try to create unbiased officiating, why should I care? It saddens me to see college basketball becoming like pro-wrestling this, but I'm becoming resigned to it.

I believe we were the first…

I believe we were the first 0-2 team ever to be in the AP Top 20* after our losses to ND and Miami.

The expanded the poll to 25 in 1989.

I was there. Amazing game. It seemed like we were up 17-0 in mere minutes. The crowd was so quiet as the game went on.

Maybe football needs…

Maybe football needs enforcers like hockey.

After a play like the one in question a reserve FB or guard goes in and chops the offending opposing player. He would draw a penalty and get ejected, but so what. Message sent.

I believe Michigan was an 18…

I believe Michigan was an 18 point underdog at OSU in 1996. We won 13-9.

I was there. It was glorious.

With a ten team league and…

With a ten team league and an eight game conference schedule, each Big 10 team missed playing one other team each season through the 80s into the 90s when Penn State was admitted. Illinois was one of Michigan’s four protected match-ups along with OSU, MSU, and Minnesota. I can imagine that a middling team would be frustrated at having to play an elite team every year, and that they would treat it like a rivalry.

It was also an unusual game…

It was also an unusual game in that Michigan scored only touchdowns: no field goals, safeties, or PAT kicks or trys.

When else has that happened?

Sports angle: he witnessed Babe Ruth’s called shot home run in the 1932 World Series.

“In addition to his nearly 35 years spent on the Supreme Court bench from 1975-2010, the Chicago native was a life-long fan of his hometown Cubs. As a boy he attended games in the 1929 and 1932 World Series at Wrigley Field. In the latter season, Stevens claims to have seen one of the most legendary moments in baseball history: Babe Ruth calling his shot.”
