Thursday Night NFL Opener - Lions v. KC
Mates,
NFL starts tonight and the Lions are in KC to start the season against the Chiefs. I think the point spread is 4.5 pts, and I'm told the Chiefs are going to be without their all-everything TE, Kelce.
I can't tell you much about either roster other than of course Hutchinson playing for our hometown Lions.
I think the Lions will have a respectable season but tough, tough way to open the season on the road vs. the defending Super Bowl champs.
Who is going to win tonight?
And for the Fantasy Football folks, do you have anyone playing tonight?
Go Lions, March on down that Field!

Well fart
September 7th, 2023 at 9:10 PM ^
Vintage Lions!
September 7th, 2023 at 9:10 PM ^
Of COURSE, it would be Brian Cook who picks up the fumble.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:11 PM ^
there’s the lions we all know and love
September 7th, 2023 at 9:12 PM ^
Brian Cook with the recovery! All these Big Ten players and bloggers on the field!
September 7th, 2023 at 9:15 PM ^
okay, if the lions hold KC here, not a totally 'typical lions' to the fumble.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:17 PM ^
It is something else how the fucking NFL has fewer commercials than college games.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:21 PM ^
But somehow Mahomes is in all of them.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:20 PM ^
Who knew Mike Danna would be that dude??
September 7th, 2023 at 9:20 PM ^
Mike Danna is having himself a game.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:21 PM ^
Ok
This is a beef I have across multiple types of football.
4-ish minutes before halftime or game. You are trying to drive to score.
And so many teams that use running the football as an integral part of their offense let 2 minutes of the clock drain away over 3 downs.
Why not use your normal offense but play hurry-up and get two "balanced" series out of it? Stress the defense with the run game, with play action. It's your offense and you're good at it, use it.
One might argue "don't want to leave too much time for the other team," but Pat Mahomes just got the ball back with 2:02, which is all the time he needs anyway. At least run your normal offense for a couple sets of downs before you go 2-minute.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:21 PM ^
Chiefs RT left early that snap.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:34 PM ^
By my count he's done that 7 times
September 7th, 2023 at 9:21 PM ^
Lions are looking OK so far. They've had their chances and are hanging tough. Let's see how tough they truly are.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:22 PM ^
Did the RT just move early, or was he good? Looked like a false start
September 7th, 2023 at 9:24 PM ^
I can’t believe I’m saying this …but the NFL has become way more entertaining than college ball.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:24 PM ^
I thought the O tackle on Hutch’s side came out of his stance early. But again, KC obviously doesn’t commit penalties. Detroit vs Everyone
September 7th, 2023 at 9:25 PM ^
I just want to see Mahomes get sacked one time. Just once.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:26 PM ^
Holy shit they finally called a hold
September 7th, 2023 at 9:27 PM ^
Second rodeo collar for Hutch
September 7th, 2023 at 9:27 PM ^
"First penalty of the game" = First (called) penalty of the game.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:28 PM ^
How was that not picked off..
September 7th, 2023 at 9:28 PM ^
The Lions are the best at giving up 3rd and a mile
September 7th, 2023 at 9:28 PM ^
That's why you don't accept the holding penalty but leave them in 4th down.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:31 PM ^
i was saying that same thing. 4th down and what, 2 or 3? would KC go for it? i'm guessing yes, but i still think that is the better choice for detroit.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:44 PM ^
Logged in just to say this. It didn’t make any sense to me in real time why they didn’t opt for 4th down. There’s no way Reid goes for that in his own and at that point in the game. Dumb decision.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:46 PM ^
It was midfield, and Reid is pretty aggressive.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:47 PM ^
Yeah. Galactically stupid decision to put Mahomes back on the field. Take the freaking tie at the half. Love Cambell's big balls, but that was just a stupid call.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:29 PM ^
Mahomies legs and ability to extend plays are the difference, as is usual. There is a reason he is so good. Otherwise DET is playing them toe to toe. Just get the feeling the dam is gonna break though. Especially after the lions left some points out there.
If Det can't pull it off I just hope the 'SOL' crowd stays quiet for at least a week. No shame in losing this game, especially if they play tough.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:41 PM ^
Fumbling the ball going into red zone for a score is the most SOL thing ever
September 7th, 2023 at 10:12 PM ^
First half fumble that prevented a FG. Frustrating, yes, but hardly the game decider. Its football. Teams turn the ball over, even *gasp* good teams.

September 7th, 2023 at 9:51 PM ^
Bad angles by our LBs too.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:30 PM ^
Yeah, Mahomes and the Chiefs have that explosive element the Lions just don't yet.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:30 PM ^
lions have shown up. mahomes does that to everyone. game is not over. lions have shown a lot more resiliency these last 2 years.
(running out of kool-aid for the evening, but i'm trying)
September 7th, 2023 at 9:32 PM ^
Mahomes is trying to pull a Brady - score at the end of the half then take the 2nd half kickoff and score again. Halftime is gut-check time for this defense.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:42 PM ^
Bless your heart-really. But as I just posted-this team makes so many little mistakes. It is so exasperating.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:31 PM ^
Can definitely tell how this secondary has not played in a game together before tonight.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:33 PM ^
Jack Campbell doesn’t make that mistake. Alex days need to end.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:36 PM ^
That KC TD drive after two Lions woulda coulda shoulda drives, is why KC wins Super Bowls. They close. The Lions need to figure that out...
September 7th, 2023 at 9:42 PM ^
Since ‘22 and counting….
September 7th, 2023 at 9:40 PM ^
The margin of error between winning and losing an athletic contest is generally very thin. This team just makes so many "little" mistakes.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:44 PM ^
ok only down 7 at the half to the super bowl favorites
not SOL but also not quite there yet
September 7th, 2023 at 9:49 PM ^
The Lions are doomed until they upload Aaron Glenn. They have such a good young OC and such a bad old DC.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:50 PM ^
If Hutchinson was getting a fair whistle, he'd have like 2-3 sacks and 3-4 pressures at the half
September 7th, 2023 at 9:50 PM ^
I think the lions are playing well. The environmen,or magnitude of being on display for the whole league hasn’t changed them. Outside of the fumble, we have played the defending champs straight up even. I do believe the Chiefs get away with tons of holding and are treated much like the Packers as far as officiating goes. Detroit vs Everyone
September 7th, 2023 at 9:53 PM ^
Final score will be something like 31-14 Chiefs
September 7th, 2023 at 9:57 PM ^
No. One score game. Wouldn't surprise me to see Detroit comeback and win.
September 7th, 2023 at 9:54 PM ^
Both tackles left early. And they've been doing it consistently...
September 7th, 2023 at 9:57 PM ^
and neither are on the line of scrimmage - both in the backfield.
