They so soft, chapter 3,024 - OSU coach snipes at Roman on Twitter

FWIW, I probably didn't need to post this.  I mean, I did check to make sure that no one else had beat me to the punch and no one had, but really - you didn't need me to tell y'all that OSU coaches are so mentally fragile that they pick fights with people either 30 years older or younger after games.

I don't love when our players say negative things about other teams after a win but Roman Wilson is, what, 22?? And I'm sure the team as a whole has had to endure all sorts of trash talking in the past couple of weeks, both by fans of other teams and the media. That said, this tweet is so beneath a college coach. Like, it's actually shocking that someone at that level can't maintain his composure towards a kid on the other team who made some comment during a press conference. Low character stuff.

(Edit: saw Winterblue's comment. As Emily Litella used to say, nevermind).

(Edit 2: saw Winterblue's edit. Nevermind to my nevermind.)

In 2021, soft meant their team was soft. In 2023 they’ve improved physically and even a bit mentally…but they can’t comprehend how it’s still not enough to beat Michigan. And that we still call them soft.

Because they’re soft. Because somebody in or near that program hired a Pi firm and drummed up a PR hitjob on Michigan. And they lost anyway.

Because Michigan is anything BUT soft, they lean in on the adversity. I mean it was a tie game when their veteran all American leader on the OL went out…and Johnson was injured too…no head coach…could have been the moment they lost the plot and OSU went on to win…instead Michigan rallied around the TEAM. And they found a way with their backs against the wall.  Bet, indeed.

Thats lil bro energy to have a COACH bitch about what an opposing player said about their team, especially after your team lost. It’s literally “I’d like to know where Lou Holtz is right now” bitch made energy.

Your team is good, elite even. They turned the corner on wilting when Michigan dares to do well against them.

But y’all still Charmin soft and can’t handle losing. And you call US arrogant? Hah!

I will never forget Brian Hartline in last year's skull session calling for the fans to be violent against us, trash program and trash coaches across the board. I doubt only one of them is guilty of domestic violence. Absolutely pathetic.

Kids versus grown-ups. If I'm OSU admin, I regret that my highly-paid employee is carrying on social media wars with U of M students. But class, decorum, all of these things, seem mostly to have gone by the boards.

It is really embarrassing for a coach to respond to someone via Twitter, especially an opposing player. It really reflects the “quality” of their staff.

Grow up. You are supposed to be an adult.

Jesus, this is such a bad look. But par for the course for OSU I suppose.

I had so much respect for this rivalry before The PI crap and everything else....this is just a cheery on top.

Wilson is on an actual team vice a place where individual dudes care more about wearing Louis Vuitton cleats and 1000 dollar outfits. OSU is a direct reflection of their coaches and the OSU’s cornerbacks coach sounds like he is professionally a joke.

Their culture is broken. It’s truly an excuse culture to the very top.

It was mostly a joke in 2021 with flu and cold stuff, then it was “5 plays” now after this year with “Lou Holtz!” “1 bad half!” “They cheated!”, and “That was an int!”….it’s clear the cancer has spread from the fanbase (which is expected) to the players and coaches.

Do they want to talk about how that pass at the end was called a completion and fumble? Then the next play we intercepted it, that was absolutely a "ball don't lie" moment.

To be fair, I thought the completion and fumble was the correct call.  In the moment, with my fan hat on, I was furious but if I was neutral I wouldn't have a problem with it.  That said, if you accept that Egbuka had possession of a completed pass, then the same holds true for Roman's catch - and Burke raking it out (and credit to him for a good play made in vain) doesn't matter because Roman has possession when the ball crosses the goal line.

I didn’t understand Klatt’s take on Roman td. Wilson had possession, crossed the line, immediate TD. Once he had possession the goal line is all that mattered. The OSU guy got the ball after they both went down. And long after it was a td.

I didn't hear Klatt's argument ... but based on my understanding of the rules, the only way it would not have been a TD is if they ruled Wilson did not have possession at the point the ball cross the plane of the goal line, and never gained possession in the endzone.  As others have noted, if it's a dual-possession (both receiver and defender), that goes to the receiver.  If he had possession as he crossed the goal line, but lost possession after, it's moot: the plane had been broken, so TD.

Was Klatt arguing he didn't control the ball prior to the goal line?  To my eyes on review, it sure looks like he did: he has possession a yard or two out, as well as over the goal line.  What happens after that is immaterial.

The analogy I’ll use is a diving catch first possessed outside the end zone, then crossing the line. Is it a TD when the ball crosses the plane?  It is not because the receiver didn’t establish as a runner and would have to survive the ground for it to count.  I think the review was to look to make sure Roman regained control and established himself as a runner because there was an initial bobble of the ball and if he did, breaking the plan is all that was needed.

I can kinda see the frustration on that guy's part. OSU's defenders did play hard. They wrestled the ball from Wilson in the endzone (it didn't count, but it was a good hustle play by the OSU guy and if we're honest Wilson kinda got mugged on that one), and I recall another play where an OSU guy made a great hustle play to deny Wilson YAC.

I don't think OSU lost because of their corners playing soft. It's always bad look to engage people on social media, but dude probably understandably got pretty miffed seeing his unit called out.

When a college football coach doesn't know that crossing the plane of the end zone with possession means a touchdown.. That might be a small part of why your program sucks.

It was a TD. He had become a runner after the catch so once the ball crosses the line, its a TD. If the ball was caught in the endzone, then they would have a claim that it was an INT but even then his butt hitting the turf before the ball was grabbed at would mean he is ruled dowm.

I've watched it in slow-mo a few times. He has possession as his foot and then his knee come down in the end zone. Then, his elbow hit the ground. That was when Burke stripped it away, Foot, knee, and elbow were down in the end zone. But it is funny to hear them complain about officiating when the 2016 game was so obviously rigged with Ohio fans in black and white.

There is emotional rot on their coaching staff behind this and it comes from their head coach. Can you imagine a coach on Michigan’s staff talking to an OSU player like this?  Harbaugh would have a Come To Jesus meeting with him. But because Day lashes out in an emotionally insecure fashion, his coaches feels entitled to do the same.

Pretty sure this is exactly the kind of crap that the Big 10 sportsmanship clause is supposed to punish. I’ll hold my breath and wait.
