I'm disappointed that he and DPJ left. We could have had a helluva passing game with a real QB next season.

Nico, Bell, Giles. That's a very good top 3. Cornelius Johnson looked good and won't be a freshman, should be a solid backup. Not to mention Eubanks. Also looking forward to Erick All. Has a nose for blocking and I think he was mainly supposed to be more on the receiving spectrum of TE.

But not like a four star. He was (at best) fourth on the depth chart. And it can be argued that Giles and Sainristil were passing him towards the end of the year.

Tarik Black seemed to play scared (after two foot injuries, I don’t necessarily blame him) and he had a knack for not running his routes to the correct depth. Which off the top of my head cost us 2-3 first downs this season in crucial moments.

Maybe all he needs is a fresh start. He seems like a kid with a ton of potential. I wish him luck, but he wasn’t working out here.

Cornelius Johnson was a four star, #175  player in his class and with a slightly lower composite rating of .92 to Black’s #116 player and .94 rating.

Johnson flashes as much in his first year as Black did in his. The difference is that Johnson flashed on a team that was loaded at WR and Black looked great when the fans were thirsty for WRs.

The depth at WR is one place the team has continued to improve the last three years, including with incoming AJ Henning, who comes in as the highest ranked WR since DPJ. Giles is also a “lower end 4 star,” but...commence complete snark.

Of that whole WR class I really thought he'd end up making the best pro. I guess that could still happen.

The only breaks the guy ever caught were in his feet.

Hate to see him go, but I'm hoping this fresh start is good for him on his way to a successful NFL career.

I'm thinking the fact that he is very bow legged will continue to cause him issues going forward. I think he probably got away with it in high school because he was physically far superior to everyone. In college, bigger and stronger people are tackling him in the lower leg and ankle area and he almost always gets up hobbling. I think he showed what potential he had as a deep threat his freshman year but I think that's all he will be going forward. I really like Tarik, he was one of my favorites, but he either physically, mentally, or both, gave up on his routes what too often. Maybe he will succeed at Texas and prove me wrong. I really hope he does.

That is a very interesting take on the physique having an impact on the susceptibility to injury.  The difference in how the body absorbs the impact only peripherally ever occurred to me.  The closest was a discussion of Anthony Carter among who's nicknames was Ostrich Legs, due to the very thin nature of his wheels.  The context was that he would not be resilient due to that fact.  The difference for him was he almost never took a direct hit with his feet planted hard.  It reduced the force on the possibly weak point.  Might be an interesting line of study to determine injury risk

Not surprised to see him end up at a blue blood.  I still see him as a an elite prospect, would not be at all surprised to see him do well.  Really wish he would have stuck it out here but I have no insight into his decision making.  Hope he wrecks the Big 12 and has a great NFL career, he certainly has the tools!

Wish him luck.  At times he looked like the best prospect from that whole class, but injuries just kept creeping up and you could tell he was having issues even in the middle of last year.  Hopefully he gets a fresh start at UT and can succeed.

Not sure what has happened to this board, but he had a few good games before his injuries. Last year he was the 4th best receiver, maybe. He gave up.

We have come a LONG way from Desmond Howard, Derrick Alexander, Tai Streets, Amani Toomer, David Terrell, and Braylon Edwards.

Get a grip folks.

I agree with the 'fourth best' but perhaps it had more to do with the injured qb who basically couldn't hit the wide side of a barn door beyond 10 yards...sorry, I don't blame him for dialing out, yeah HE SHOULD have played above it...there was a lot of dissent in the ranks...maybe a lack of confidence in the QB and promises that were made, despite available talent. Hard to say beyond rumors. I'll say straight up, once he broke his right foot, I stated perhaps football just wasn't going to work out for him...I hope he finds his groove at Texas.

According to this board, Tarik gave up, DPJ gave up.  Many believe this is a personal problem but we’d be remiss if we didn’t question why two super talented guys never saw their potential under this staff.  Tarik had trouble getting healthy but even when “healthy” his usage was super low.

I'm not sure either guy gave up. DPJ I think he just needs full time coaching. I think he will be successful on the Browns.

With Tarik, I think this staff has a super low tolerance for guys who get injured. We've already seen 2 guys get medical scholarships at Michigan and go on to play at other schools. There was friction with Lavert Hill over injuries. James Hudson was injured for one or two practices and it led to his transfer. Not sure what the solution is. Either certain guys take it the wrong way or the staff needs to change their approach to injuries.

The Longhorns' two leading receivers in 2019, Devin Duvernay (106 receptions, 1,386 yards and 5 TD) and Collin Johnson (38 receptions, 559 yards and 3 TD), both graduated.

Junior Brennan Eagles (32 receptions, 522 yards and 6 TD) is Texas' leading returning receiver, Black, seemingly, should have a good chance to produce immediately.

I certainly hope he does well. My observation is that he had a tough time knowing where the down marker was as there were times when he failed the first down when he could have  fought for another yard. Maybe I'm wrong on that take but I know Gattis was upset with him on such an occasion.

He is certainly a talented kid. But our problems weren't receivers it was QB play IMO.

Collins better have a highlight year, because if not, then cannot ever expect to get an elite wr until a new coach.  DPJ and Black were criminally underused and recruits take notice.  I always give Harbaugh the benefit of the doubt, except on this one.

I agree with the idea...considering Patterson missed what seemed like dozens of wide-open deep ball shots...I'm focusing blame. I think a lot of the WR group gave up on Shea. Dudes know dudes.

if there was any truth to off-season antics while they were busting ass trying to set up routes and timing, the guys sold out on him. If the majority of players were behind McCaffrey or Milton as the guy and Shea was promised the starting job hurt or not...atttitude in a locker room is toxic.

Desmond and Elvis played HS ball together AND spent summers throwing routes. Neither was 'the most exceptional ever' but their timing was darn near telepathic. I'm not slamming either guy for the narrow-minded small IQ types...I'm saying each played at an exceptional level with the work they put in.
