Shaka Smart rumors picking up steam and Texas fans are estatic

If you believe a prominent insider on Sam Webb's site this is where the winds are blowing currently. Webb also had a big update today on his hot board. Texas fans on their 247 site couldn't be happier btw.

Give us your weak, your retread,
Your lame duck coaches yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your failed NIT bid.
Send these, the mediocre, agent driven to me,
I lift my lamp beside the maize door!

Dear Ford Motor Company:

Can we please borrow Jim Hackett for a few weeks so he can find us a new basketball coach? We promise to give him back once we're done.

Thank you,

If I were a Texas fan I'd be positively orgasmic if some other team "poached" Shaka.

As a Michigan fan ... I'd become a fan of some other program.

Shaka ran the havoc defense at VCU and abandoned it at Texas. Seems like he should go back to that since that was how he actually won games.

Shaka Smart is a complete mirage as a good coach. Still trying to live off his VCU days. He might be the worst in game adjustment coach around.

Please no.  We’ll have to pay him more than his current $3.2 million a year and his $12.9 million buyout.  Unless of course they lower it, which is obviously also not a good sign.

Shaka Smart rumors picking up steam because Texas fans are pushing it

Theres no way we go for Shaka Smart. He is a proven failure at Texas so why would we want him here?

Edit: Smart likely brings mediocrity. I’d much rather roll the dice with Juwan Howard. At least we wouldn’t more or less know we were getting 19-13 seasons with him.

I swear every thread about a possible coach is based on some random "insider" on a message board, and half the time it's just speculation mixed with someone's brother's girlfriend's son's little league coach claiming he bumped into someone on the way out of Meijers.  By all accounts the search committee is still working to even get a list together of viable people.  I'm sure every semi-competent HC is getting a look, but considering Brian freaked out about the UIC coach yesterday and today there isn't a peep on that front shows you how dumb this speculation is.

Again, I recommend that people just take a deep breath, and stop freaking out over every bit of "news" (most of which is probably generated by agents looking for an extension for their client).

This can not be true, and would have to be a legit fireable offense for Manuel. Texas made 15 tournaments in 16 years. Shaka Smart has made 2 in 4, and won 0 tournament games. He has a below .500 conference record. Shaka smart has made 1 sweet 16. Let me repeat, he has made 1 sweet 16. Never made it past the second round otherwise. This is absolutely insane it would even be considered for a promotion.

Since he’s been at Texas, their defense has ranked 40th, 21st, 12th, and 26th. And despite his reputation at VCU, only once did he have a top-10 defense there (6th in 2014).

Yet as a defense-first coach, the questions surrounding the offense would be just the same as they are for Yaklich. So why would I want a guy known for his defense who can’t get a top-10 defense in four years at another school over a guy who has gotten top-3 defenses *at Michigan* for two-straight years (resulting in back-to-back 30-win seasons)?

His name was thrown around, but likely will never seriously be considered. He would be on a third tier list somewhere between the truly elite and then some of the up and comers. I know quite a few people close to Tom and I highly doubt he’ll be leaving Georgia for a while.

My current hunch, based upon nothing, is that all "insiders" are grasping at straws. Sam's big lead  is that Bill Martin's son roomed with Shaka at Kenyon. Certainly nothing that approaches a "gut feeling." Maybe Warde is holding his cards close to the vest, and insiders are finding minutia in the periphery in order to fuel our content-starved psyches? Or maybe Shaka is in the pole position and I'll want to die. Time will tell.

This is correct. As I have said in other areas they’ll reach out to Billy and Juwan is going to be interviewed. Other than that everything else is pretty fluid right now. Warde is not letting a lot out and he’s moving slowly and gathering information right now. He’s in no rush and so really there is not a lot of real news to report. So insiders are just kind of pushing whoever they are hearing at the time.

If Smart is the choice for MBB, well...bye...I am out as a fan. WTF Warde. Hope the program fails...and miserably!  Cant be more serious.
